Course requirements
Guelph asks Ontario students for an OSSD (the Ontario Secondary School Diploma) with at least six 4U or 4M courses. For Bio-Medical Science those must include English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and two of Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U), plus two more 4U or 4M courses.
Guelph requires two of the three sciences and recommends all three. If you're missing the third, you'll take a replacement course in your first term. Plan your courses with our course planner.
The estimated cut-off range
Guelph lists an estimated cut-off range of 86-92% for Bio-Medical Science. It's based on admission averages from previous years. The real cut-off depends on how many people apply, how strong they are and how many spaces there are, so an average in the range doesn't guarantee an offer.
Guelph uses your top six completed 4U or 4M courses, including the required ones. Co-op courses don't count. For early offers, before your 4U and 4M marks are final, Guelph uses a mix of completed or in-progress 4U and 4M courses and completed 3U and 3M courses. Work out your average with our Top 6 average calculator. Guelph doesn't publish a program acceptance rate; our Guelph acceptance rate page explains what it does publish.

How to apply and when you'll hear
Apply through OUAC by January 15, 2027. Guelph keeps taking applications after that date but encourages you to apply early. Guelph's acknowledgement email gives you a seven-digit student ID to use whenever you contact Admission Services. There's no supplementary application for Bio-Med. Guelph encourages every applicant to send the optional Student Profile Form, due April 1, 2027.
Offers go out from November to May. If your average falls short, Guelph automatically considers you for Biological Science and keeps considering you for Bio-Med in later rounds. Accept an offer through OUAC by June 1, 2027.

Applying from another province or as a transfer student
The cut-off range is the same 86-92% for the provinces we checked. From British Columbia you need English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, Pre-Calculus 12, two of Biology 12 (or Anatomy and Physiology 12), Chemistry 12 or Physics 12, and one more academic Grade 12 course. From Alberta you need English 30-1, Math 30-1, two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Physics 30, and one more 30 or 31 course.
Students coming from another university or a college can't enter Bio-Medical Science directly. Guelph's requirements tool says transfer applicants should apply to a different BSc major instead. Once you're a Guelph student, you can apply to join Bio-Med after a year, as the next section explains.

Staying in the major after first year
Getting in is only the first step. Guelph's 2026-27 calendar says continuing into second year depends on your first-year average across 5.00 credits, including eight core courses. With 75% or more, you're guaranteed to continue.
With 70% to 74.9%, continuing is competitive and depends on space. Below 70%, Guelph moves you to Biological Science. Students already at Guelph can apply to join the major by the last day of winter classes, and decisions come at the end of June.

What you study
Bio-Med is a joint program of Guelph's Department of Human Health Sciences and the Ontario Veterinary College's Department of Biomedical Sciences. It covers physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, epidemiology, immunology, pathology and nutrition, in both human and animal health.
Guelph highlights hands-on anatomy: a Human Anatomy Lab with human body donors, and a comparative anatomy course with animal dissections. Some courses use live animals or animal tissues, and students in the major must accept this.

Medicine, vet school and other next steps
Guelph says the major is designed to partly meet the entry requirements for Ontario medical schools and for its own Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Check each professional school's current rules yourself, because they change.
Graduates have gone on to medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, as well as research, industry and government. Read our pre-med and health sciences guide to compare routes.

No co-op in this major
Guelph's program list shows Bio-Medical Science as a major without a co-op option. Many nearby Guelph science majors, such as Biomedical Toxicology, do offer co-op. If paid work terms matter to you, compare those before you apply.
