Course requirements

When you choose Ontario in the requirements tool on USask's Exercise and Sport Studies page, it lists Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U or Physics 4U, and Mathematics of Data Management 4U or Advanced Functions 4U, with Advanced Functions recommended. The 2027-28 admission rules list the Saskatchewan versions: Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Physics 30, and Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30.

USask also needs proof of English proficiency. Your average uses five Grade 12 marks: one English, one math, and three other approved subjects. So ENG4U still counts toward your average.

First year includes MATH 104 or MATH 110, which are calculus courses, so MHF4U is the better math choice. Map your plan with our course planner.

The average you need

USask's 2027-28 rules set a minimum of 70% on a five-subject high school average. They also say competitive ranked admission is used to manage enrolment, so seats go to the top averages.

The program page gives a clearer target. For Ontario applicants it shows an expected target average of 86.4%, based on 2026-27 admissions. USask says the average for 2027-28 could be higher or lower. Applicants with 90% or more who apply by the early deadline are eligible for early admission.

For Ontario, Introductory Kinesiology 4U (PSK4U) can count in the average for kinesiology applicants only. Check your standing with our Top 6 average calculator. USask uses five marks, so look at your best five that fit its formula.

How USask works out your average

The formula is one English, one math and three other approved subjects. You can use at most two natural sciences, two social sciences or humanities, and one fine or performing art.

Timing matters. From September to February 1, USask uses your Grade 11 marks. From February 2 to June 30, it uses marks to the end of Grade 12 term 1. A conditional offer then needs you to hold a minimum average on your final marks.

There is no essay or interview for this route. Grades carry 100% of the weight.

What first year looks like

Co-op and practicums

None of the USask kinesiology pages we checked lists a co-op program. Instead, the college offers fourth year practicum classes as electives. The program page lists athletic therapy, adult fitness management, business and cardiac rehabilitation. The college admissions page lists administration and coaching too. One practicum works with cardiac rehab clients, and the Athlete Health Practicum places you as a student trainer with a Huskie team.

You can also join undergraduate research, community service learning, or an exchange with the University of Queensland in Australia. Classes run in the $33-million Physical Activity Complex, which has a triple gym, a pool, a climbing wall and lab equipment. USask says the complex offers the most student jobs on campus, in areas such as Huskie Athletics, aquatics and sports camps.

Careers and second degrees

USask lists careers such as professional kinesiologist, exercise physiologist, athletic therapist, strength and conditioning coach, and sport or recreation facility manager. Teaching and coaching are also on the list.

Many students use the degree as a base for a second degree. USask names chiropractic, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy and public health. Each of those has its own admission rules, so check them early.

USask says the program is accredited by the Canadian Council of University Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators. It also has ten seats set aside for Indigenous applicants, with verification required.

For parents

Don't read 70% as the real bar. USask's own target for Ontario last year was 86.4%. The earlier your child applies, the better: December 1, 2026 matters for both early admission and the $5,000 scholarship.

First year costs about $11,277.66 before residence. See our University of Saskatchewan guide for campus and residence details.
