Is Queen's University hard to get into?

Some Queen's degrees are demanding because they combine high grade benchmarks with extra selection. The university's 2025-26 enrolment report records a 90.5% incoming-class average for 2025. For Fall 2027, judge the specific degree's published consideration minimum, required subjects and supplementary application rather than treating that class average as the mark everyone needs.

A high incoming average does not set every program's minimum

Queen's reports a 90.5% incoming-class average in its 2025-26 enrolment report. The same page lists 59,533 first-year applications and an intake of 5,477 for 2025. These figures describe the class and demand for places. They do not set 90.5% as a rule for every degree. Students did not all enter with the same mark.

The application count and intake also cannot produce an offer rate. One person can make more than one application. An enrolled student is not the same as an offer. The Queen's acceptance-rate guide explains the figures and wider history. Here we focus on the rules for the degree you want.

Begin with your exact degree choice. Arts, Computing, Commerce, Engineering, Health Sciences and Nursing have different published grade bands or extra requirements. A whole-class average mixes those routes. Check the degree first. It tells you which subjects you need. It also shows which extra steps your file must pass.

Keep the consideration label and its relative year attached

Queen's labels its table Minimum Admission Average for Admission Consideration. It explicitly refers to September of last year without naming that cohort year. We retain that wording. A Fall 2027 applicant should use it as the latest published planning evidence, then recheck the new cycle rather than rename the figures confirmed 2027 cutoffs.

Arts and Science show low 80s, while Computing shows mid 80s. Commerce shows 90+, and Health Sciences and Nursing show low 90s. Engineering lists mid-80s guidance, with higher listed routes for Electrical/Computer and Mechatronics. These bands differ for a reason. Saying everyone needs a 90 average would hide much of the entry process.

A consideration minimum has a limited meaning. It is a threshold for review under the school's process. It does not tell you your chance or promise an offer. Competition still matters. So do any extra selection steps. Use the Queen's vs Western comparison if you are choosing between actual degree routes, with each school's different grade labels kept visible.

Check subject floors before relying on the overall average

Start with the Ontario school qualification and allowed course set. The subjects you need depend on the degree. Build a course list for each choice. A friend's science or business courses may not cover your own program. A high average cannot replace a missing required course.

Commerce illustrates the extra detail. Its required English, Calculus and another 4U maths course each have an 80% floor. Keep that course rule separate from the old table's overall 90+ figure. A strong overall result does not erase a required subject below its floor. Read both parts before deciding which marks need attention.

For Engineering, Computing, Science, Health Sciences or Nursing, return to the program's own row. Commerce's maths courses and floors do not apply to every other degree. Our Queen's Commerce requirements guide retains the business detail, while the university's Ontario page supplies the full range of school-subject requirements.

The supplementary application is a separate selection task

Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing require the supplementary application. A mark in the stated band does not make the supplement optional. Nor can a completed supplement replace a missing required course. List course review and the extra assessment as two parts of the same file.

The checked FAQ still labels its format details for 2026 intakes and promises an update on November 1, 2026. It also retains answers with 2024 deadlines. The current 2027 calendar supplies the dates used here. The final new-cycle format remains pending, so do not treat a previous year's timing or question layout as a settled 2027 instruction.

Read the new official steps when they come out. Submit your own work. Queen's fraud policy bans material written by a third party. That does not say every conversation or form of human feedback is banned. We do not expand the rule beyond its stated scope. This guide concerns public eligibility and planning. It does not provide responses for an applicant's assessed supplement.

A realistic plan when you are two to five points below

Locate the gap first. It may be a required course, the overall grade band or a later degree plan. Each calls for a different next step. For high school entry, check the allowed subjects first. Check each course floor before the overall average. Keep the table's relative prior-cycle label in the plan rather than assuming it is a guaranteed new-cycle threshold.

List the marks you can still raise. Find out when Queen's can receive the official updates. Ask your school about reporting, and ask Queen's about any unusual course history before relying on a repeat or a changed curriculum. Use named courses and dates in the plan. Do not count on a stronger supplement to create a set grade-point bonus.

Keep alternatives that have a degree purpose you would accept. Low-80s Arts guidance is useful only if the Arts courses and later plan options fit your goal. It is not a promise of a later Commerce, Health Sciences or Computing place. Look at another school too. Check that its course rules and actual program suit your record.

If a supplement is required, finish it independently according to the current instructions and the school's authorship policy. The sources give no fixed trade between supplement strength and missing grade points. Raise the course marks that matter. Keep the file complete and choose real alternatives. These are actions you can take. An unofficial winning average is not a fact to plan around.

Admission to Arts & Science and entry to a plan can differ

Many Arts & Science students begin with broad degree entry and choose a plan after first year or after at least twenty-four units. The current first-year registration guide explains gateway courses and names direct-plan exceptions. Read those steps before you choose courses. First-year subjects can affect which later plans stay open.

The plan-selection page has automatic and pending-list thresholds. An Arts & Science offer does not grant every later plan. Some need another check of your marks. Review the desired department's courses and current criteria. For a 2027 entrant, the instructions for the relevant later cohort should control the actual request, rather than an assumption that today's thresholds will never change.

This distinction matters when comparing offers. Ask what the first offer settles and which academic decisions remain after university starts. A broad entry route may leave room to explore. A direct-entry professional degree follows a different path. Neither path proves one school is easier for everyone. Nor does it prove one is better for every subject.

Use the named 2027 calendar and the right program group

Queen's current calendar names February 1, 2027 for the selected Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing applications, followed by February 15 for the supplement. It gives March 1 for most other first-year applications and March 31 for the listed documents. Read the applicant and program conditions beside each row and complete the applicable OUAC steps too.

Those dates are not the same as the old FAQ answers that remain online. Use our Queen's deadline guide to organize the current rows, then check the official calendar and your own requests. List the required assessment and documents beside the application task. Submitting one form does not prove the whole file is complete.

Allow time for school reporting and technical problems rather than planning to finish each task at the last moment. The November 1 supplement update is a separate recheck date for format information. It does not move the already published 2027 application dates. Keep the distinction visible when discussing the plan with a parent, teacher or school counsellor.

Price the degree and the study route you would actually take

Queen's 2026-27 Ontario-resident domestic Arts & Science tuition, excluding Computing, is $6,204.60 for thirty units. Commerce Years 1 and 2 list $16,613.19 for thirty-three units. Student charges and housing are separate. Program and course load change the bill. These examples are not one price for every Queen's student.

Use the Queen's tuition guide to match the degree, load and fee-status category. Ontario school study does not itself decide domestic fee eligibility. Approved Fall 2027 prices remain pending in these reference figures. Add living costs using the residence chapter and check confirmed funding through the financial-aid chapter.

If a work route matters, Queen's QUIP describes eligible twelve-to-sixteen-month paid internships, typically after third year with return to study. Joining the work route and getting a job are separate steps. Do not assume every degree follows an alternating co-op sequence or that future work earnings are guaranteed. Plan the course route and the bill together. Check that you can support the budget.
