Queen's Health Sciences supplementary application 2027: the Kira written and video answers for on-campus BHSc, and how Nursing compares
If you apply to Queen's on-campus Bachelor of Health Sciences (QH), you must send a supplementary application. It has one written answer and one video answer, done online on Kira Talent. The latest published rules give you 10 minutes and 335 words to write, then 2 minutes to prepare and 2 minutes to speak on video. Apply by February 1, 2027. The supplement is due February 15, 2027, and Queen's won't take it late. Four-year Nursing (QN) uses the same supplement process. The fully online Health Sciences degree does not need one.

Who has to do it
The Bachelor of Health Sciences program says the supplement is an admission requirement for all applicants to the on-campus program. That covers first-year entry (QH) and upper-year transfer (QHQ). Queen's central page adds that applicants to the fully online Health Sciences program don't need one.
For Nursing, Queen's says only applicants to the four-year Bachelor of Nursing Science need the supplement. Applicants to the Accelerated Standing Track (AST), a two-year route for students who already have university study, do not.
If you apply to Health Sciences and Nursing, or add Commerce, you do a separate supplement for each program. Queen's FAQ says so directly. Commerce applicants should read our Queen's Commerce supplement guide.

Why Health Sciences uses it
The BHSc page is blunt about this: "An applicant will not receive an offer of admission based on grades alone." It says the program uses the supplement alongside your marks to learn more about you, and that offers are based on both.
Queen's central page explains the order. If your grades are above a minimum average that Queen's sets, it then uses your supplement. That minimum, and the number of students chosen through the supplement, change each year with the number and strength of applicants. Queen's competitive average page lists the low 90s as last September's minimum for both Health Sciences and Nursing consideration.

What is confirmed for Fall 2027
The dates are confirmed. Queen's dates page says first-year Health Sciences and Nursing applications are due February 1, 2027. The supplement for Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing is due February 15, 2027. All other documents are due March 31, 2027.
The details are not confirmed yet. Queen's FAQ and rubric pages both say they describe the 2026 intakes and that 2027 updates will be posted by November 1, 2026. The BHSc page still points to the rubric for 2024-25. Treat the format in this guide as the latest published one, and check the Queen's pages again before you start.

How it works on Kira
After you apply on OUAC, Queen's emails an acknowledgement with your 8-digit student number, usually within 3 to 5 days. You need that number to register in Kira. Invitations go out weekly and can take up to 8 business days after the acknowledgement. If yours doesn't arrive, email suppapp@queensu.ca.
You do the written answer first, then the video. You can take a break between them. Queen's doesn't share the questions in advance, and each applicant gets them at random. The questions won't ask you to list your activities. Queen's says it wants to see how you think in real time.
The whole supplement takes about 30 minutes, says Queen's. It suggests a quiet place where you are alone, with a stable internet connection. Practice is a required part of check-in, isn't scored, and can be repeated.
How it is read and scored
At the BHSc level, a committee of faculty, administration and staff reads the supplements. The program says readers must take training that includes inclusivity, diversity, intersectionality and human rights. Queen's FAQ adds that review teams from Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing, plus admission staff, review and score them.
Queen's publishes two rubrics, one for the written answer and one for the video. Each runs from Developing (1) to Exceptional (5). The written rubric looks at how you describe a challenge, your initiative, adaptability or persistence, problem-solving and reflection. The video rubric looks at your example, how you see other people's views, your part on a team and your reflection. Our Queen's Commerce supplement guide sets out each level in a table.
Queen's doesn't publish a percentage weighting. Its FAQ calls the supplement "very important" and one mandatory part of the assessment.

Outside help, AI and extra documents
Queen's application fraud page says an application may be invalidated if any part of it, or anything sent to support it, is "false or misleading or written by a third party." That can lead to rejection, a cancelled offer or the end of your registration. Queen's may share the finding with OUAC and other schools.
We found no Queen's page that names AI tools for this supplement. An answer written by a tool or another person still isn't yours. Kira Talent also doesn't recommend browser extensions such as Grammarly while you work, says the FAQ.
Don't send anything extra. The BHSc page says reference letters, a CV and other added materials "will not be reviewed by the admissions committee."

Accommodations, tech help and retakes
If you need an accommodation, Queen's asks you to email suppapp@queensu.ca with what you need and any supporting documents. For tech problems, Kira's help centre runs 9 am to 5 pm Eastern, and you can email support@kiratalent.com or suppapp@queensu.ca outside those hours.
If Queen's asks you to retake or resubmit a part, you get a new random question. When you finish, Kira emails a confirmation. Your SOLUS To-Do List updates within 8 business days.
Other deadlines on the Health Sciences page
The BHSc page also lists June 15 for upper-year transfer and October 15 for winter first-year entry. Queen's central page shows the winter date as October 15, 2025, which is a past cycle. If you're thinking about a winter start, ask Queen's for the current year's date. Queen's does not accept late submissions for any of these.

Mistakes Queen's warns about
Each point below comes from Queen's own pages.
- Writing past the 335-word limit, which Queen's says hurts your application.
- Missing February 15. No late supplements are accepted.
- Sending a CV or reference letters. The BHSc committee won't review them.
- Thinking one supplement covers Health Sciences and Nursing. You need one per program.
- Missing the invite. Add @queensu.ca and @kiratalent.com to safe senders.
- Submitting work written by someone else. Queen's can invalidate the application.

Courses you still need
From an Ontario school, Health Sciences asks for ENG4U with at least 80%, plus SBI4U, SCH4U, and MHF4U or MCV4U. Nursing asks for ENG4U with at least 75%, plus SBI4U, SCH4U and any 4U math. Two more 4U or 4M courses complete your six for both.
For the full program view, see our Queen's Health Sciences pathway and Queen's Nursing requirements. Applying elsewhere too? Compare Kira formats in our Kira Talent video interview guide, or read the Casper test guide if a nursing program asks for Casper instead.
