Course requirements

Ontario high school students need the OSSD with six 4U or 4M credits. These must include English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and one of Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Physics (SPH4U) or Computer Science (ICS4U). Your prerequisite computer science, math and science courses must also average at least 70% combined.

Ontario Tech recommends taking all three of MCV4U, ICS4U and SPH4U. You only need one, but the others help in first year and can raise the marks Ontario Tech looks at. Plan your Grade 12 year with our course planner.

The cut off: 75% last year, 73% expected

Ontario Tech is unusually open about its numbers. The Computer Science page lists last year's cut off as 75% and an expected cut off of 73%. It also says admission is competitive, the needed average changes from year to year and meeting the minimum does not guarantee an offer.

Ontario Tech says it looks at your school marks, which subjects you took and how you did in courses tied to the program. Ontario Tech does not publish a Computer Science acceptance rate. Our Ontario Tech acceptance rate page covers what it does share. Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator.

Co-op: OUAC code DCD

Ontario Tech has a direct entry co-op option you choose on your OUAC application. Apply with code DSD for the regular program or DCD for co-op. Co-op makes the degree five years, with paid full time work terms. The co-op office says students can get up to 20 months of work experience.

The co-op stream is harder to get into. Ontario Tech's co-op office says the minimum admission average for direct entry co-op is normally 80%. If you are not admitted to co-op, you are considered for the regular program automatically. Co-op fees apply, so check the co-op office's fee page before you accept.

Specializations and the degree

The Honours BSc in Computer Science is four years without co-op. You can add an Honours Thesis with a faculty adviser. You can also choose a specialization in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Interactive Computing or Software Development. Ontario Tech also lists a separate Artificial Intelligence (Computer Science) program.

Students who want business skills can apply in upper years to the five year Bachelor of Science and Management (Honours). Ontario Tech reports a median upper year class size of 21 and says 90% of students are employed within six months of graduation.

Co-op work terms and fees

Ontario Tech's co-op office shows sample schedules where students complete at least three four month work terms in about four and a half years, with the first work term usually in the spring or summer of second year. It also says there are several possible schedules and the program page sets the exact one, so your own order of school and work terms may differ.

Co-op fees are paid in installments while you are in the program and are non refundable. Ontario Tech's 2026-2027 fee schedule lists a one time co-op entrance fee of $754.23 and a work term fee of $754.23 for each work term. That schedule names the Faculties of Business and Information Technology, Engineering and Applied Science, Social Science and Humanities, and Education. It does not list Science separately, so ask Ontario Tech which fee applies to Computer Science co-op before you accept.

DSD or DCD: which code to pick

If your marks are near the 73% to 75% range, apply to DSD, the regular program. If you expect to be near 80% or higher, apply to DCD for co-op. Since Ontario Tech considers co-op applicants who miss out for the regular program automatically, picking DCD does not cost you a spot in DSD. Students in the regular program can still look for summer jobs and research roles, but only co-op students get the built in paid work terms and job support.

For parents
