Course requirements
Ontario Tech asks current Ontario high school students for an OSSD with six 4U or 4M courses, including English (ENG4U). It recommends Biology (SBI4U) and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Math of Data Management (MDM4U).
Take the recommended courses if you can. Psychology at university leans on research methods and data analysis, so a Grade 12 math helps, and biology helps with the brain and behaviour side. Plan your timetable with our high school course planner.

The average you need
The program page lists last year's cut-off as 70% and the expected cut-off as the low 70s. Ontario Tech says admission is competitive and the average needed changes from year to year. It looks at school marks, the mix of subjects you took and how you did in subjects related to the program. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee a seat.

No supplementary application
The program page lists no essay, interview, portfolio or video for Forensic Psychology. Your Grade 12 marks decide. The separate major entrance scholarships do ask for an essay and letters of support, but that is an optional scholarship application, not part of program admission.

Dates for Fall 2027
Ontario Tech's page for Ontario high school applicants lists Friday, January 15 as the OUAC deadline, and says decisions for Fall 2027 start in January 2027. The deadline for the Chancellor's, President's and Founder's scholarship application is Thursday, February 18. You should hear back by Friday, May 28.
You accept your offer by Tuesday, June 1, which is also the date to send a residence application if you want a guaranteed spot. The tuition deposit is due Friday, June 4. See our Ontario deadlines page.
What you study
You study the core areas of psychology: social, cognitive, developmental and abnormal, plus research methods and data analysis. Forensic psychology courses then apply psychology to crime, policing, the courts and corrections. You can also add parts of criminology, legal studies, health and neuroscience.
The faculty says students learn to tackle questions such as whether you can tell when someone is lying, whether children can be reliable witnesses, and how to reduce wrongful convictions. The program uses forensic psychology laboratories at the Downtown Oshawa campus.

Practicum, internships, and co-op
The program page lists an experiential work term, internships, a practicum, research study and an undergraduate thesis. A limited number of fourth year students get a practicum with a community organization: 100 hours of fieldwork, several in-class seminars and academic assignments. Ontario Tech says 175+ organizations offer placements and there are 80+ summer internship jobs to apply for.
Forensic Psychology does not list co-op. Criminology and Justice does, with its own OUAC code for co-op (DLE). Ontario Tech's Social Science and Humanities experiential learning page says co-op became a new option for most of its programs in Fall 2025 and lists paid co-ops and internships among its options. Ask the faculty whether co-op is open to Forensic Psychology before you apply.

How it compares at Ontario Tech
Psychology (Bachelor of Arts), OUAC code DAA, has the same course list and the same 70% last year cut-off with low 70s expected. Pick it if you want broad psychology without the justice focus. Criminology and Justice, code DAJ, also had a 70% cut-off and offers a co-op stream.
If you're drawn to the lab side of crime, our Ontario Tech Forensic Science guide covers that BSc, which needs very different Grade 12 science courses. Ontario Tech also offers a master's and a PhD in Forensic Psychology.

College routes into the degree
If you start at college instead, Ontario Tech has two transfer routes into the same 40 course BA. Forensic Psychology Advanced Entry (OUAC code DPA) takes graduates of set Ontario college diplomas, such as Behavioural Science Technician or Community and Justice Services, with at least a B- or 70% average. You receive 20 courses of credit and finish in four full time semesters.
The GAS Transfer route is for students who complete Durham College's General Arts and Science certificate, University Transfer (Forensics) option. You need at least 70% in each prerequisite and a 77% overall average. You enter second year with 10 courses of credit and study six more semesters.

Careers and further study
The program page lists careers such as mental health technician, psychologist, child and youth worker, corrections officer, law enforcement officer, probation manager and residential youth counsellor. Ontario Tech says 90% of students are employed within six months of graduation.
Becoming a psychologist takes graduate study beyond this degree. Ontario Tech's own graduate programs in Forensic Psychology are one option.

For parents
This is a direct entry BA with one required course and a published cut-off near 70%. It's a realistic choice for a student with strong English marks who is curious about crime and the courts. Ontario Tech also lists January as a start date, besides September, which can help if your child needs an extra term to finish courses.
