Ontario course requirements

Ontario high school students need the OSSD with six 4U or 4M courses, including English (ENG4U) at 60% or more, Biology (SBI4U) and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U). Ontario Tech recommends Chemistry (SCH4U) if you want the Human Health Science specialization.

Chemistry is not required, but it matters if you are aiming for medicine, dentistry or other programs that expect university chemistry. Taking SCH4U now makes first-year science easier. Map your courses with our course planner.

The mid-70s cut-off

Ontario Tech publishes two numbers. Last year's cut-off was 70%, and the expected cut-off for Fall 2027 is the mid-70s. The same figures appear on the Health Sciences, Human Health Science and Public Health pages.

Ontario Tech says admission is competitive and the needed average changes each year. It looks at your marks, the mix of subjects you took and how you did in courses tied to the program. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee an offer. Ontario Tech does not publish a program acceptance rate. Our Ontario Tech acceptance rate page covers what it does share. Health Sciences, Human Health Science or Public Health

All three lead to the Bachelor of Health Science (Honours), four years, full time, starting in September or January. The program blends physiological, sociological and epidemiological views of health.

Human Health Science (DHH) covers anatomy and physiology, microbiology, neurophysiology and pathophysiology. Ontario Tech says it prepares you for post-graduate study such as medicine, epidemiology and dentistry. Public Health (DHU) looks at the health of communities, inequities, health promotion and disease prevention. If you are not sure yet, the general Health Sciences code (DHS) lets you choose later. From second year, students in these programs can add a Minor in Legal Studies.

Do not confuse this with the Bachelor of Health Administration (DHD). That is a separate online degree for students who want to work in health care management.

No co-op, but placements and research

The Health Sciences pages do not list co-op. They list a clinical internship, a practicum and research study as the hands-on parts of the degree. Students in all Health Sciences programs can apply for a fourth-year Research Practicum that runs through the final year, working with a university or community research tutor.

Ontario Tech says more than 100 local, regional and national organizations provide clinical and internship placements. It reports a median upper-year class size of 59 and says 92% of students are employed within six months of graduation. Listed careers include public health officer, health policy analyst, laboratory research assistant and pharmaceutical researcher.

The Medical School Pathway

Ontario Tech promotes a Medical School Pathway. Graduates of Health Sciences, Human Health Science or Public Health with a cumulative GPA of at least 75% can be eligible for MD programs at six Caribbean medical schools, including St. George's University of Grenada and Ross University. You must still pass an interview and other steps at the partner school.

This is not a route into Canadian medical schools, which have their own GPA and MCAT rules. Partner schools also expect a year of university biology, organic chemistry and English. Weigh the cost and licensing path of studying medicine abroad before you count on this pathway.

Tuition, scholarships and residence

For 2026-27, first-year Bachelor of Health Science tuition is $6,102.46 for domestic students and $34,148.27 for international students, based on 10 courses. Ancillary fees are extra.

Entrance scholarships are automatic from your best six 4U and 4M courses: $4,000 at 95% or higher, $2,000 at 90 to 94.9% and $1,000 at 85 to 89.9%. First-year students are guaranteed residence if they meet the deadline. Simcoe Village and South Village house more than 1,300 students.

Other Ontario Tech health programs to compare

Ontario Tech lists several related programs in its Health Sciences and Medicine group. Kinesiology, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing and Health Administration each have their own OUAC code and rules. Biomedical Science sits in the Faculty of Science, and Ontario Tech describes it as a strong base for the MCAT and medical school course requirements.

Two of these programs have stricter timing. Medical Laboratory Science and Nursing are early deadline programs, so you cannot upgrade in the summer for them and your courses must be done by June 30, 2027. Health Sciences does not have that limit, which gives you more room if a mark needs work. If your timetable lacks Chemistry, Health Sciences or Public Health may suit you better than the science-heavy options.

Health Sciences also has a January start, which can help if you finish high school mid-year or need a term to upgrade a course. Ask Ontario Tech how a January start affects your course sequence before you choose it.
