Course requirements

Ontario students need English (ENG4U) and Advanced Functions (MHF4U), plus two of Biology, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry, Earth and Space Science or Physics. Saskatchewan students need English Language Arts 30, Pre-Calculus 30 and two of Biology 30, Calculus 30, Chemistry 30, Computer Science 30, Earth Science 30 or Physics 30.

Calculus counts as one of the two extra courses, so it is a smart pick for computer science. Plan your timetable with our course planner.

The average you need

Starting in Fall 2025, Regina raised the average for computer science programs to 80%. The rest of the Faculty of Science still asks for 70%. Grade 12 students who apply early also need at least 80% for a conditional offer in a computer science major.

Regina uses five courses: one English, one higher level math and three approved courses from math, science, social science or languages. No more than two math courses can count. Regina does not publish an acceptance rate. Track your grades with our Top 6 average calculator, then work out your five-course Regina average.

No qualifying program

Some Regina faculties let students who fall a little short start in a qualifying program. The Faculty of Science says it does not offer one for computer science. If your average is under 80%, you cannot be admitted to computer science from high school.

That makes your Grade 12 marks very important. If you are near the line, apply to other programs too, and check our Canadian deadlines page to plan them.

Dates for Fall 2027

Regina's two application guides frame the dates differently. The Saskatchewan page lists an early application deadline of March 15 and a final transcript deadline of August 15. The Ontario page lists August 15 for both the application and official transcripts, and August 1 for transcripts from early conditional admits. Confirm the dates for your province with Regina.

Either way, apply by March 15. That is also the date to be considered for automatic entrance awards. Early applicants get a conditional offer based on Grade 11 and any Grade 12 marks done so far. Transcripts must come straight from your school board or ministry.

Degree options

Regina offers seven computer science bachelor's degrees. They are the BSc in Computer Science, the BSc Honours, a Business concentration, a Creative Technologies concentration, a combined major with Math in both regular and Honours forms, and a BSc in Software Systems Development. Each takes four years.

To graduate with Honours you need an overall average of at least 70% and at least 75% in computer science and other required science courses. Regina says its computer science program is the longest continually accredited one in Canada, through the Computer Science Accreditation Council.

Supplementary application

Regina lists no essay, portfolio or interview for computer science. Your average and courses decide your file.

The application fee in the 2026 fee schedule is $100. If you need help picking a degree option, Regina's academic advisers can help once you are admitted.

What you study and research areas

Course examples on Regina's program page include Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, which covers search, optimization, games and constraint problems, and Software Engineering Methodology, which teaches how to design large, safe and reliable software systems. Risk and Reward in the Information Society looks at privacy, intellectual property and the ethics of computing.

Faculty include a Canada Research Chair and industry funded research chairs. Research areas are artificial intelligence and machine learning, data science, human centred computing, software engineering, systems and cybersecurity, and theoretical computer science. Every computer science program can carry a co-op designation.

The Software Systems Development degree focuses on building large software systems, for work in a big IT department or for starting your own software company.

Co-op

Computer science has more than 100 co-op placements each year. Co-op alternates paid work terms with study and gives 12 to 16 months of work experience by graduation. Graduates work as software developers, data scientists, game designers and more, at employers such as Electronic Arts, Microsoft, Amazon and SaskTel.

Regina's co-op page says typical pay is $12,000 to $14,000 per semester, with an average of $3,200 a month. It also reported that 90% of placements were in Saskatchewan in 2020. The Fall 2026 fee schedule lists a co-op fee of $1,149 per term.

Tuition for 2026-27

Regina's Fall 2026 domestic tuition schedule lists Science tuition at $296.25 per credit hour, plus a students' fee of $5.70 per credit hour and flat fees. One standard three credit hour class comes to $1,184.90 with fees included.

A full year is 30 credit hours. At $296.25, that is $8,887.50 in tuition before fees, by our math. Regina's cost page, based on 2026-27, shows a sample of $7,854.60 in tuition and fees for a domestic student, but notes that fees vary by faculty and credit hours.

For parents

The 80% rule is firm and there is no qualifying route. If your child is close, make sure they apply to backup programs as well.

Apply by March 15 for an early offer and awards. Look at our Regina engineering guide if your child is also weighing software engineering.
