Ontario Tech Campus Guide: North and Downtown Oshawa

Ontario Tech has two locations in Oshawa, about an hour east of Toronto. The north Oshawa campus at 2000 Simcoe Street North holds four faculties, the residences, the main library and the athletics facilities, and it's shared with Durham College. The downtown Oshawa campus holds the Education and Social Science and Humanities faculties. The trip between them is about 15 minutes by bus or 10 by car.

Which campus you'll study on

Your faculty decides your home campus. Check it before you choose housing, because the first-year residences are all on the north campus.

Sharing the north campus with Durham College

Durham College's Oshawa campus has the same 2000 Simcoe Street North address, and the two schools share several services there. Knowing which ones are shared saves you from going to the wrong office.

  • The Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre serves students from both schools, and recreation bookings go through a joint DC-OT portal.
  • Parking Services is a shared service for both schools. From Fall 2026 it's run by Ontario Tech.
  • The DRT U-Pass covers full-time students at Durham College, Ontario Tech and Trent University Durham.

Getting around with the U-Pass

Eligible full-time students pay a mandatory U-Pass fee of $168.20 each term in 2026-27. It gives you unlimited travel on Durham Region Transit (DRT) for that term, including OneFare DRT-GO routes.

Ontario Tech emails a voucher code to your ontariotechu.net inbox. You redeem it on a PRESTO card in your phone's wallet or on a physical PRESTO card, which costs a one-time $4. Once redeemed, you also get 40% off the standard GO Transit fare.

Getting around with the U-Pass
TermPass validWhen codes go out
FallSeptember 1 to December 31From the last week of August, and throughout the term
WinterJanuary 1 to April 30Before the December closure, then again from January
Spring/summerMay 1 to August 31From the last week of April
  • Check the U-Pass charge under My finances, then Account information, in MyOntarioTech. Search for UPASS.
  • If you've registered but weren't charged, you may be able to opt in. Email upass@ontariotechu.ca near the start of term with your name and student number.
  • If you convert a physical PRESTO card to Apple Wallet, redeem your U-Pass voucher first so it carries over.

GO Transit and trains

GO Transit buses run to both campus locations from places such as Brampton, Scarborough, North York and Markham. The Oshawa GO and VIA Rail station is about 11 km from the north campus and 5 km from the downtown campus, and DRT buses connect them.

Ontario Tech publishes these approximate transit times. Use GO's trip planner for your actual trip.

Parking on campus

Parking is paid around the clock on campus. Since September 1, 2026, every parked vehicle needs a valid digital permit or an active daily session in the HONK Mobile app. Most permits are now linked to your licence plate instead of a hang tag.

Daily parking at the north Oshawa campus costs $5 an hour on weekdays, up to $20, until 5 p.m. After 5 p.m. it's a flat $5 until 5 a.m., and weekends are a flat $5 for the day. A permit lets you park but doesn't guarantee a space, and a north Oshawa permit is valid only there.
