Course requirements
Ontario students need an OSSD with six 4U or 4M courses. Two are named: English (ENG4U) and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U). Each needs at least 60%.
Ontario Tech says it also looks at the mix of subjects you took and how you did in subjects linked to the program. It adds that preference goes to applicants with the best qualifications, so strong marks in English and math help. Plan your Grade 12 timetable with our course planner.

The average you need
Ontario Tech lists last year's cut-off for Commerce as 70%. It also says admission is competitive, the average changes each year and meeting the minimum does not guarantee an offer.
Direct-entry co-op normally needs an 80% admission average. The exact cut-off depends on how many people apply and how strong they are. Ontario Tech does not publish an acceptance rate. Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator.

Regular or co-op: which code to pick
Use OUAC code DCC for Commerce (Co-op) and DBC for Commerce without co-op. If you apply to co-op and are not admitted, Ontario Tech automatically considers you for the regular program, so you do not lose your spot in line.
Students with past college or university study must use DBC. They can opt into co-op only after a transfer credit assessment. Ontario Tech also runs a commerce bridge and an advanced entry route for college graduates.

First two years and majors
The first two years are a common curriculum with simulations, teamwork and case studies. In third year you pick one of five majors: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management, or Technology Management.
Accounting is accredited by CPA Ontario. Graduates who finish the required courses can enter the CPA Professional Education Program, and can do its first four modules at Ontario Tech through a graduate diploma the summer after graduation. Finance prepares you for the Canadian Securities Institute exam and the CFA path. Technology Management mixes commerce with information technology, covering data analytics, information systems, change management and data security. Specializations include Artificial Intelligence for Business, Cybersecurity for Business and Economics (Commerce).
The page lists minors in two places with different options. One lists International Business and Entrepreneurship. The other lists Operations and Supply Chain Management. Confirm the current minors with Ontario Tech.

Co-op and internships
Co-op jobs are full-time and paid. Across Ontario Tech, co-op students can earn up to 20 months of work experience. Full-time students can complete at least three four-month work terms in four and a half years, and schedules are set for each student.
Students in the regular stream still get hands-on work. Ontario Tech says 100% of commerce students take part in experiential learning, through internships here or abroad or capstone consulting projects with industry partners. It reports more than 350 companies offering paid internships and capstone projects, and 90% of students employed within six months of graduation.

A second route: college first, then the bridge
If your high school average is below the cut-off, college can still lead to an Ontario Tech BComm. The Commerce bridge (OUAC code DBB) is for graduates of an Ontario college diploma or advanced diploma with at least a mid 70s average. It runs five semesters full time, and part time is also possible.
Once you finish the bridge courses with at least a C in each, you move into the BComm. Ontario Tech gives you 15 courses toward the 40-course degree in recognition of your diploma. Graduates with other two- or three-year diplomas should ask Ontario Tech Admissions if they qualify.
This route takes longer than going straight from high school. It does give you a college credential along the way. Talk to a guidance counsellor before you choose it.

Residence
Ontario Tech houses more than 1,300 students. First-year students are guaranteed a residence spot if they meet the deadline. Simcoe Village and South Village serve most first years, and South Village needs a meal plan.
Leases run eight months. Every building has 24/7 front desk staff, controlled access, laundry and high-speed internet. Prices are posted on the residence website rather than the main housing page. January start students can apply too, based on space.

For parents
A 70% cut-off makes Ontario Tech a realistic option for many students. If your child wants co-op, the target is about 80%, and there is a built-in fallback to the regular program.
Encourage your child to apply to DCC if they are close to 80%. Decisions arrive by late May, and offers must be accepted by June 1. Also read our Ontario Tech admissions overview.
