Course requirements
Ontario Tech asks Ontario high school students for the OSSD with six 4U or 4M credits. Three of them are named. You need English (ENG4U) with at least 60%, Biology (SBI4U), and one math from Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U).
Chemistry is not required. Ontario Tech recommends Chemistry (SCH4U) if you plan to take the Exercise Science and Rehabilitation specialization. If you are still choosing Grade 12 courses, SCH4U keeps that door open.
MDM4U counts as your math. That helps if calculus is not your strength. Your other three courses can be any 4U or 4M credits. Use our course planner to check your Grade 12 plan.

The average you need
Ontario Tech prints two numbers on the program page. Last year's cut-off was 70 per cent. The expected cut-off is the mid-70s. These are cut-offs, not the average of students who got in. Ontario Tech does not publish an admitted student average for kinesiology.
The page also says admission is competitive and the average needed changes from year to year. Ontario Tech looks at school marks, the subjects you took, and how you did in courses that relate to the program. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee an offer.
A safe plan is to aim above the mid-70s, with strong marks in biology and English. Work out where you stand with our Top 6 average calculator.

No essay, portfolio or interview
The kinesiology program page lists courses and a cut-off. It does not list a supplementary form, essay, interview or video. Your grades carry the decision.
The only essay you may see is for scholarships. Ontario Tech's Chancellor's, President's and Founder's scholarships need an essay and letters of support. That is a separate scholarship application, not part of the program admission.

Ontario Tech has posted its Fall 2027 dates for Ontario high school students. Admissions decisions for Fall 2027 start in January 2027 and continue on a regular basis.

What you study, and the two specializations
Kinesiology at Ontario Tech covers the behavioural, biomechanical, physiological and psychosocial sides of human health and performance. The Faculty of Health Sciences lists course areas in anatomy, biomechanics, motor control and neuroscience, physiology, exercise physiology and psychology, and psychomotor behaviour.
The program page says you can choose courses that prepare you for the exams to become a Registered Kinesiologist in Ontario. Kinesiology lab sections have 23 students, according to the page.
Ontario Tech lists two specializations inside the same DKN program. Biomechanics and Ergonomics looks at how the body interacts with the physical world, including injury prevention at work. Its page says graduates can apply for the Associate Ergonomist (AE) designation. Exercise Science and Rehabilitation looks at movement for health, fitness and injury recovery.
The program pages do not agree on start dates. The main Kinesiology page lists September and January. The two specialization pages list September only. If you hope to start in January, confirm with Ontario Tech admissions.

Placements, not co-op
The Kinesiology page does not list a co-op stream. It lists clinical, internship, practicum and research study as experiential learning. It says students may take placements for one term or a full year, in areas like athletic therapy or exercise and rehabilitation.
Examples on the page include cardiac rehabilitation, a physiotherapy or chiropractic assistant role, personal training, and student therapist to a varsity team.
Ontario Tech does run direct entry co-op in other programs. Its co-op page says the minimum average to be considered for co-op programs is normally 80 per cent. Kinesiology is not shown as a co-op program on its own page, so do not expect paid work terms.
The co-op office's Health Sciences page agrees. Its table lists placement as the experiential learning for Kinesiology, and it does not list co-op for any Health Sciences program.

The major entrance scholarships need an application, a minimum 85 per cent average, leadership and community involvement. The Chancellor's Scholarship is worth $36,000 over four years. The deadline is Thursday, February 18. You can hold only one entrance scholarship at a time.

How it compares with Health Sciences at Ontario Tech
Ontario Tech's general Health Sciences degree (OUAC code DHS) asks for the same courses: ENG4U at 60%, SBI4U and one of the same three maths. It also shows a 70 per cent cut-off last year and a mid-70s expected cut-off.
So the choice is about what you want to study, not about grades. Pick kinesiology if you want movement, exercise and the path to a kinesiologist registration. Pick Health Sciences if you want a wider health degree. See our Ontario Tech Health Sciences guide.
