Course requirements from Ontario

In Grade 11, SFU asks for English (ENG3U), one of Functions and Applications (MCF3M) or Functions (MCR3U), and one Grade 11 science from SBI3U, SCH3U, SVN3M or SPH3U. In Grade 12 you need English (ENG4U) at 70% or higher, Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and one of a 4U math, a 4U or 4M science, or a 4U or 4M social studies course. Add three more courses from SFU's List A or List B.

SFU bases its evaluation on all your approved Grade 11 and 12 courses, not only the top six. Plan your Grade 12 year with our course planner.

Course requirements from BC

BC students need English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 and Pre-Calculus 12, inside at least five approved academic Grade 12 courses. There are no specific Grade 11 courses. SFU also needs 70% or higher in Language Arts 11 or English 12, and you must meet its quantitative and English language requirements.

BC applicants are reviewed for early admission between mid-November and January, using Grade 11 marks and any Grade 12 marks reported. Standard decisions go out between February and April.

Grades in the 80s

SFU's historical admission grade ranges page lists the Beedie standard for all high school students as minimum grades in the 80s plus the supplemental application. The ranges reflect the past three years, and SFU says grades at or above them do not guarantee an offer. SFU does not publish a narrower Beedie figure or an acceptance rate.

Your grades and your supplemental score are combined into one ranking, so strong marks alone may not be enough. Check your marks with our Top 6 average calculator and see our SFU acceptance rate page.

The supplemental application

Every high school applicant to Beedie must complete a supplemental application, with a fee of $95.12 that is separate from the SFU application fee. It includes a written short answer, a description of your achievements from the last four years, two references and any extra information. One referee must be a high school teacher or counsellor. If you skip it, you are denied and assessed for your second choice program.

Several assessors read each application blind, without your name or grades, and score it on a set rubric. Beedie looks for experience in areas such as athletics, the arts, community work, entrepreneurship or jobs. Beedie asks for your original work and says not to use ChatGPT or other large language models. Fall applicants with a complete, eligible USES scholarship application do not need to send the Beedie supplemental. Self-identified Indigenous applicants can choose the Beedie supplemental or SFU's Supplemental Indigenous Undergraduate Admission form, at no cost.

Most decisions go out from January to late April on a rolling basis. Accept your offer by May 1, 2027, and finish all high school courses by June 30. See other schools on our Canadian university deadlines page.

Beedie co-op

Co-op is optional. To earn the co-op designation you need at least three full-time paid work terms, and Beedie says you can graduate with 12 or more months of work experience. Students get access to more than 6,000 co-op job postings and can work locally, across Canada or abroad. Beedie says more than 2,000 business students take part each year.

SFU's 2026 calendar lists a co-op fee of $932.08 per work term for both domestic and international students.

SFU charges per unit. Its 2026 calendar lists a domestic basic rate of $220.61 per unit and a premium of $294.15 per unit for 200, 300 and 400 level Beedie courses. A first year of 30 units at the basic rate would be about $6,618 by our arithmetic, before supplementary fees.

Scholarships

SFU's Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship (USES) needs a minimum 90% average or 31 IB points. Awards range from $20,000 (8 x $2,500) up to $140,000 over eight terms. The USES deadline is December 15, 2026, well before the admission deadline. A complete USES application also replaces the Beedie supplemental.

For parents

Beedie looks at grades and a supplemental application together. Your child needs English and Advanced Functions, grades in the 80s, two references and written answers in their own words. Help them line up a teacher or counsellor as a referee early.

Mark three dates: December 15, 2026 for USES, January 31, 2027 to apply and February 7, 2027 for the supplemental. Compare other business schools on our UBC Sauder and Queen's Commerce pages and read our SFU guide.
