SFU Meal Plans and the Dining Commons: Fall 2026 Prices
If you live in SFU's North Towers, East/West Towers or Courtyard Residence, a meal plan is required and you start on the 7-Day plan, $3,727 a term in Fall 2026. Every plan gives you all-you-care-to-eat meals at the Dining Commons, which SFU calls Canada's first 24/7 university dining facility in fall and spring. Students in McTaggart-Cowan Hall, Hamilton Hall or the Townhouses, and students off campus, can buy a plan if they want one.

Compare the Fall 2026 plans
All three plans are priced per term and give unlimited, dine-in access to the Dining Commons on the days they cover.
| Plan | Fall 2026 price per term | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| 7-Day Plan | $3,727 | All-you-care-to-eat, seven days a week. The default for required residents. |
| 5-Day Plan | $3,627 | All-you-care-to-eat five days a week, Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday. |
| 7-Day Platinum Plan | $4,032 | Seven days a week, plus $450 Dining Dollars for other campus outlets. |
- Required residents are set up on the 7-Day plan automatically, and the fee is due with residence fees.
- To switch to the 5-Day plan, contact the Residence and Housing front desk. Upgrades and Dining Dollars are added through the MyPlace@SFU housing portal.
- Platinum Dining Dollars left at the end of a term carry over to the next term.
Who has to buy a plan
If you're not on a plan, you can still eat at the Dining Commons by paying the door rate.
| Where you live | Meal plan |
|---|---|
| North Towers, East/West Towers, Courtyard Residence | Required |
| McTaggart-Cowan Hall, Hamilton Hall, Townhouses | Optional |
| Off campus | Optional, bought through MyPlace@SFU |
How the plan works
- Swipe your SFU or FIC student ID each time you enter. Plans and Dining Dollars can't be transferred to another student.
- Plans are dine-in only. Students with classes on another campus can ask the Dining Commons team about exceptions, and lunch take-out is available.
- A plan runs from the start of term until 1 p.m. the day after your last exam.
- Optional plans added after the third week of classes are prorated, and unpaid optional plans are cancelled.
- Refunds are possible until November 1 (fall), March 1 (spring) or July 1 (summer), prorated weekly and credited to your goSFU account.
Paying at the door, value packs and Dining Dollars
Without a plan, you pay the Fall 2026 door rate, before tax. A valid SFU or FIC ID takes $5 off.
| Meal | Hours | Fall 2026 door rate |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast | 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. | $17.39 |
| Lunch | 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. | $24.69 |
| Dinner | 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. | $24.69 |
| Late night | 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. | $21.89 |
- Value packs save up to 17%: 11 meals for $192.76, 25 meals for $420.49 or 50 meals for $794.40, plus tax.
- Dining Dollars work like a debit card at SFU Dining spots, including Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Discovery Cafe, Mackenzie Cafe and the Dining Commons.
What the Dining Commons serves
SFU describes chef-inspired international dishes, action stations where food is cooked to order, and local, seasonal ingredients. Its Rooted program serves Indigenous dishes.
If you have a food allergy or follow a specific diet, you can talk to a chef, and SFU offers dietitian consultations. Questions go to dining_feedback@sfu.ca.
