SFU Libraries and Study Spaces: Bennett, Fraser and Belzberg
SFU has a library on each campus: the W.A.C. Bennett Library in Burnaby, the Fraser Library in Surrey and the Belzberg Library in Vancouver. Bennett has the longest hours, open until 11:45 p.m. Monday to Thursday in October 2026, with group study on its 2nd and 3rd floors and a fully silent 6th floor. Current students can book group study rooms on every campus, and the Student Learning Commons offers free writing and study help.

Group, quiet and silent zones
SFU Library sorts its space into three kinds of study area. Look for the posted signs, and tell staff if noise is disturbing others.
- Group study: discussion is encouraged. At Bennett, the whole 2nd and 3rd (main) floors work for groups, including the Fireplace lounge.
- Quiet study: speak quietly and keep conversations short. This is most library space, including Bennett's 4th, 5th and 7th floors. The 7th floor is the Research Commons.
- Silent study: no talking. Bennett's entire 6th floor and room 3650 at Fraser are silent.
- At Bennett, SFU encourages you to take phone and video calls in the stairwells.
How to book a study room
Current students book rooms through the library's online booking tools, which list each room's capacity and equipment. A booked room that isn't occupied within the first 10 minutes is open to anyone.
| Where | What you can book |
|---|---|
| Bennett, 2nd floor | Group study rooms, during library hours |
| Bennett, 5th floor | Small private study rooms for one or two students, each with a desk |
| Bennett, 5th floor | The Indigenous reading room, for Indigenous students, staff and faculty |
| Fraser Library and SFU Surrey | Team rooms inside and outside the library |
| SFU Vancouver | Group study rooms |
- Students registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning can book individual study rooms at Bennett.
- Graduate students have their own group and private rooms in the Research Commons.
Writing and study help
The Student Learning Commons (SLC) helps undergraduates with academic writing, exam preparation, reading and study skills, and English as an additional language. You can book one-on-one writing and learning consultations or join workshops.
Its Assignment Calculator breaks a writing assignment into steps once you enter the due date. In fall 2026, SFU's WriteAway service offers online writing feedback from September 21 to December 8.
