Course requirements for Ontario students
SFU's general rule for Ontario is at least six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U at 70% or higher. You also need all the Grade 11 courses your program lists. SFU looks at all approved Grade 11 and 12 courses, with more weight on the List A courses your program requires.
For both degrees the Grade 11 list is ENG3U, one of MCF3M or MCR3U, and one of SBI3U, SCH3U, SVN3M or SPH3U. For the BSc, Grade 12 List A is ENG4U, SBI4U, SCH4U, one 4U math, and one of 4U math, science or social studies. For the BA, it is ENG4U, SBI4U, and three 4U or 4M courses in math, science or social studies. Both add one more course from List A or B.
The BSc is the harder list to finish, because you need both SCH4U and a 4U math. If you're not sure which degree you want, take SBI4U, SCH4U and a 4U math so both stay open. Map it with our course planner.

The average you need
SFU publishes acceptance grade standards from the past three years, not a fixed cutoff. For high school students, the Faculty of Health Sciences row lists mid 80s for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and high 80s for students on a student visa. The page gives one range for all Health Sciences programs, so the BA and BSc share it.
SFU says grades at or above these ranges do not guarantee an offer. Strong students may get an early offer. SFU's BSc requirements page says early offers are limited and typically go to applicants with high academic standing.
Check where you stand with our Top 6 average calculator, and compare schools on our SFU acceptance rate page.

BA or BSc: what you study
Both degrees need 120 units, at least 60 of them at SFU, and a CGPA of at least 2.0. The BA needs at least 45 upper division units. The BSc needs at least 44, including at least 28 HSCI units.
The BSc has two streams: Life Sciences, and Public Health and Data. Lower division courses include BISC 101 and BISC 102 General Biology, CHEM 121 General Chemistry and Laboratory I, HSCI 130 Foundations of Health Science, HSCI 230 Evaluating Epidemiological Research, MATH 154 Mathematics for the Life Sciences I and STAT 201 Statistics for the Life Sciences. Upper division courses include HSCI 305 The Canadian Health System and HSCI 321 Human Pathophysiology.
The BA starts with HSCI 100 Human Biology, HSCI 130 and HSCI 207 Research Methods in Health Sciences. You add a set of courses in communications, ecosystems or politics. Topics in both degrees include global health, mental health and addictions, and population and public health. You can start either program at the Surrey campus.

Co-op
Health Sciences has its own co-op program. SFU says co-op students spend alternate terms on campus and in paid, study-related jobs. You don't apply from high school. You apply once at SFU, ideally with 30 to 80 units done and a CGPA of at least 2.4.
You commit to three work terms. Acceptance into co-op doesn't guarantee a job, because employers choose who to hire. Each co-op term carries a co-operative education fee of $932.08 for domestic students in the Fall 2026 calendar.

Tuition for 2026-27
SFU charges tuition per unit. The Fall 2026 calendar lists $220.61 per unit for domestic students. Health Sciences courses are not on the premium rate list, which covers business, engineering and computing courses.
Our estimate, not an SFU figure: two terms of 15 units each is 30 units, or about $6,618 in tuition. A full-time student activity fee of $191.91 and other supplementary fees are extra, and so are housing and food.
SFU's pages disagree on the application fee. The Faculty of Health Sciences admissions page says $84.25 for domestic students. The Fall 2026 calendar fee page says $87.75. Check the amount when you pay.

Entrance scholarships
SFU's Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship is worth $20,000 up to $60,000 for domestic students. To be considered, you need at least a 90% average in the courses required for your primary program. You must apply separately.
Applications open October 1, 2026 and close December 15, 2026. Supporting documents are due January 31, and offers go out by email from mid-March to May.

How it compares with other SFU options
If you're also looking at SFU Kinesiology, our SFU Kinesiology guide covers its courses and range, so you can compare the two lists side by side.
SFU says its Health Sciences programs take a cell to society approach. It says students choose the BA for social science, the BSc Public Health and Data stream for quantitative work, and the BSc Life Sciences stream for biological science. Honours and a minor are open to students accepted into a program.

For parents
There is no essay or interview, so grades drive the decision. Watch your child's English mark, since ENG4U must be at least 70%. SFU asks for a $250 deposit from Canadian students to hold a place once they accept.
