Two degrees, one department
SFU's Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology sits in the Faculty of Science. It offers a BSc in Kinesiology and a BSc in Biomedical Physiology. SFU's admission pages and Fall 2026 calendar list no BA for either program.
Kinesiology is about human structure and function, and how they relate to movement and health. You study physiology, anatomy, fitness appraisal and rehabilitation. The major has a general route and an optional Active Health and Rehabilitation concentration. SFU says the program is accredited by the Canadian Council of University Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators (CCUPEKA).
Biomedical Physiology is one of SFU's newest programs. SFU says it builds a strong base in the study of the human body and prepares you for further study in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or therapy, as well as research and lab work.
You can't combine these areas. SFU does not allow a double major, double minor or major and minor across kinesiology, biomedical physiology and behavioural neuroscience.

Course requirements from Ontario
SFU's Ontario page sets general rules first. You need at least six Grade 12 U or M courses, including ENG4U with at least 70%. SFU looks at all approved Grade 11 and 12 courses, with greater weight on the required List A courses.
For all Faculty of Science programs, the Grade 11 list is ENG3U, one of MCF3M or MCR3U, Chemistry 11 SCH3U and Physics 11 SPH3U. In Grade 12, List A is ENG4U (minimum 70%), Advanced Functions MHF4U and two 4U/M math or science courses. You add two more approved courses from List A or B.
Take biology and chemistry in Grade 12 even though SFU's admission list doesn't force them. The first-year core course BISC 101 has a prerequisite of Biology 12 and Chemistry 12, or equivalent, each with at least a C. Without them you would need a bridging course first.

BC students and a difference to check
SFU's Kinesiology requirements page uses the BC curriculum. In Grade 11 you need two of Chemistry 11, Life Sciences 11 or Physics 11. In Grade 12 you need English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, Pre-Calculus 12, and at least two of Anatomy and Physiology 12, Calculus 12, Chemistry 12 or Physics 12. The Biomedical Physiology page lists the same courses. You also need at least 70% in Language Arts 11, English 12 or equivalent.
The two lists don't line up exactly. The BC list lets you pick two of three Grade 11 sciences. The Ontario page lists both Chemistry 11 SCH3U and Physics 11 SPH3U for all Science programs. If you're an Ontario student without Grade 11 physics, confirm with SFU Student Recruitment and Admissions before you apply.

The average you need
SFU publishes historical acceptance grade ranges from the past three years. It lists one range for all Faculty of Science programs, which covers Kinesiology and Biomedical Physiology: the mid 80s for Canadians and permanent residents, and the high 80s for students on a student visa. SFU does not publish a separate range for each BPK program.
SFU says grades at or above these ranges do not guarantee an offer. The Kinesiology calendar entry adds that admission is competitive, and that the admission average for each entry route is set each term based on available spaces.
Treat the mid 80s as a floor, not a target. Use our Top 6 average calculator to see where your Grade 12 marks land.

Dates for Fall 2027
SFU's Fall 2027 dates are posted. Applications opened on Education Planner BC on October 1, 2026. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2027. SFU makes most high school decisions on a rolling basis from January to late April.
The admission document deadline for all high school applicants is February 28. Most students must accept their offer by May 1. Classes start on September 7, 2027.
BC students can also get early admission from mid-November 2026 to January 2027, based on Grade 11 marks and any Grade 12 marks reported so far. SFU says those offers are limited. Compare these with your other dates on our Canadian university deadlines page.

No essay or supplement
SFU's Ontario page asks for a supplemental application only for certain programs outside the Faculty of Science, such as the School for the Contemporary Arts. Kinesiology and Biomedical Physiology don't have one. SFU decides on your approved Grade 11 and 12 courses.
Your best lever is your List A courses: ENG4U, MHF4U and your Grade 12 sciences. SFU gives those courses more weight.

Where you study and what first year looks like
SFU lists Kinesiology and Biomedical Physiology as programs you can start at the Surrey campus. SFU's Surrey page says that after first year, further study in these areas needs courses at the Burnaby campus. The BPK department itself is at Burnaby, in the Shrum K Science Centre.
The Kinesiology major is 120 units. The core includes BISC 101, CHEM 121, CHEM 122, CHEM 281, BPK 142, BPK 143, BPK 201, BPK 205, BPK 207 and STAT 201, plus calculus, physics and biochemistry options. The general program and the Active Health and Rehabilitation concentration both add BPK 110 and BPK 241.
Keep your grades up. After 24 credits, you need a Science CGPA of at least 2.50 to stay in the Kinesiology or Biomedical Physiology major. Students who fall below get a warning letter, then can be withdrawn from the major if it stays low.

Co-op
Yes, BPK has co-op. SFU's calendar says co-op combines work experience with academic study. You spend alternate terms on campus and in paid, study-related jobs. Co-op is available in kinesiology and biomedical sciences, arranged through the department's co-op coordinator.
Co-op adds a fee. SFU's Fall 2026 calendar lists $932.08 per co-op term for domestic students.
Kinesiology students can also earn certificates alongside the degree. SFU lists a Professional Kinesiology certificate and certificates in health and fitness studies and applied human nutrition.

Tuition
SFU charges by the unit. Its Fall 2026 calendar lists $220.61 per unit for domestic students in normal courses. Kinesiology courses are not on SFU's list of premium-rate programs.
Our estimate for a 2026-27 year of 30 units at that rate is about $6,618 in tuition. That is our math, not an SFU figure. Student services, athletics, transit pass and other supplementary fees are extra, and rates can change each term.

Entrance scholarships
SFU says it offers over 150 entrance scholarships each year, and the Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarships (USES) make up most offers. To qualify for USES you need at least 90% (or 31 IB points) in the courses required for your program, plus strong school and community involvement.
The main USES award is $40,000, paid as eight payments of $5,000. The Surrey Close to Home Entrance Scholarship is $20,000. The Fall 2027 USES application deadline is December 15, 2026. References and all admission items are due January 31, 2027.

How it compares with nearby SFU options
Pick Kinesiology if you want exercise, rehabilitation and applied health work. Pick Biomedical Physiology if you're aiming at medicine, dentistry or lab research. Both share a first-year core, and both use the same Science admission range.
Behavioural Neuroscience is the other close option. It's a joint BSc with Arts and includes biology, physiology, kinesiology and psychology. Our SFU Psychology guide covers it. SFU's Faculty of Health Sciences also lists a mid 80s range for Canadian applicants.

For parents
Admission rests on grades, with no essay. Ontario students should check Grade 11 physics and Grade 12 biology and chemistry early, because those choices are hard to fix later.
If your teen starts at Surrey, plan for travel to Burnaby from second year. Our SFU university guide covers campuses and residence.
