Trent Kinesiology regular and co-op requirements

What the program is

Trent's B.Sc.Kin. is a four-year degree focused on human performance and function across the life span. Trent says it trains you to prescribe exercise programs and analyze movement for clients from high-performance athletes to seniors.

Kinesiology is a regulated health profession in Ontario. Trent says the degree gives you the skills to write the competency exam to become a registered kinesiologist (R.Kin.).

The program is offered in Peterborough only, with a fall start. Trent's kinesiology pages don't list a Queen's or other partner route for this degree.

Course requirements

Trent's general Ontario rules come first: an OSSD, at least six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses including the program prerequisites, a 70% overall average and ENG4U with at least 60%.

For Kinesiology, Trent adds program prerequisites. You need ENG4U with at least 60%, any one 4U math (Advanced Functions MHF4U, Calculus and Vectors MCV4U or Data Management MDM4U) and any two of Chemistry SCH4U, Biology SBI4U, Physics SPH4U or Kinesiology PSK4U.

That list is more flexible than many kinesiology programs. You can use Data Management as your math and PSK4U as one of your two sciences. If you're also considering co-op, take Biology plus Chemistry or Physics, because the co-op pages ask for SBI4U.

The average you need

Trent publishes a minimum, not a past range. The Kinesiology program page sets a minimum 75% overall final average calculated on prerequisites. Trent's Ontario requirements page says a minimum 75% overall final average, without saying which courses it uses. Ask Trent admissions which courses count before you plan around the number.

Trent does not publish an admitted-student average or an acceptance rate for Kinesiology. The department calls it a capped program, so spaces are limited.

Trent says that if you're admitted while still in high school, your offer depends on meeting the program's minimum requirements. Track your prerequisite marks with our Top 6 average calculator.

Co-op requirements differ by page

Trent offers a five-year co-op stream with 12 months of paid work experience, and an option to add another work term at the end for 16 months in total. Co-op is a separate OUAC code, RKD.

The co-op rules are worded three ways. The program page asks for an 80% final average calculated on prerequisites, with the same course list as the regular stream. Trent's Ontario requirements page and its co-op requirements page ask for an 80% cumulative average, ENG4U at 60%, SBI4U, one of MHF4U, MCV4U or MDM4U, and SCH4U or SPH4U. Under that second version, PSK4U doesn't count toward co-op.

Confirm with Trent before you choose RKD. The safe plan is to take SBI4U and either SCH4U or SPH4U.

Once you're in, Trent's co-op students need a 75% cumulative average through their study terms. Trent also lists a fourth-year placement for non-co-op students at sports clinics, camps or Trent Health in Motion, an on-campus clinic.

No essay or supplement

Trent's Kinesiology admission is based on grades. The program page, the Ontario requirements page and the co-op requirements page list averages and courses only. There's no essay, interview or portfolio for high school applicants.

Students who want to move into Kinesiology after starting at Trent face a different test. They need a 70% cumulative average in set first-year courses and must apply through myTrent between February and May.

Dates for Fall 2027

You apply through the OUAC. Trent's dates page doesn't print a Fall 2027 application deadline for Ontario high school students, so use the OUAC equal consideration date on our Ontario application deadlines page.

Trent sends offers to Ontario high school students in rounds: early December, early February, mid-March and early May. If you don't get an offer by May, Trent reviews your final grades in July.

Other Fall 2027 dates on Trent's page: residence is guaranteed if you apply by June 3, 2027, and the $500 domestic tuition deposit is due June 15, 2027.

What first year looks like

Trent's department lists the required first-year courses for students transferring in. They show what Kinesiology students take early: BIOL 1500H and BIOL 1501H (Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2), NURS 1550H Introductory Life Sciences for Health Professionals, PSYC 1020H and PSYC 1030H (Introduction to Psychology), SOCI 1001H Introduction to Sociology I, and PHYS 1060H or PHYS 1000H.

Popular courses later in the degree include Sport Psychology, Introduction to Injury Management, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy of Human Movement and Exercise and Sport in Indigenous Health. Trent says some courses are taught with its Nursing program, and labs cover exercise testing, movement assessment and injury management.

Tuition for 2026-27

Trent's Peterborough fee table for Ontario students doesn't list Kinesiology by name, so it falls in the 'All Other Undergraduate Programs' row. For a new Fall 2026 student, that row shows $6,240.85 in tuition plus $2,122.22 in ancillary and levy fees, for $8,363.07 in total.

Housing, meal plans, books and program or course fees are not included. Trent says Fall 2027 tuition fees will be posted by summer 2027.

Entrance scholarships

Trent gives automatic, renewable entrance scholarships to Canadian high school students with an admission average of 80% or more. At 95%+, the total is $18,118, made up of $6,118 for first-year tuition plus $4,000 a year for three years. At 90 to 94.9%, it's $12,000 ($3,000 a year for four years). At 85 to 89.9%, $8,000. At 80 to 84.9%, $6,000.

You keep the award by holding an 80% average in a full course load. Trent's Prestigious Scholarships need an application, open to students entering with 80% or more, due March 21, 2027.

How it compares with nearby Trent options

Trent lists Nursing, Biology and Biomedical Science as programs that Kinesiology applicants also look at. Trent's page shows Biomedical Science as a B.Sc. Honours degree, without a co-op option.

If you want work experience built in, the Kinesiology co-op stream (RKD) is Trent's main route. Otherwise the fourth-year placement gives you time with practitioners without adding a year.

For parents

Trent publishes a 75% floor, and its course list is flexible. The catch is the co-op stream, where three Trent pages word the rules differently. Ask Trent to confirm in writing if your child picks RKD.

A student with an 80% admission average gets at least $6,000 over four years in automatic scholarships. Our Trent university guide covers residence and campus life.
