What the program is

UVic's Kinesiology program is a Bachelor of Science run by the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education in the Faculty of Health. The school says it prepares you for movement analysis, exercise prescription and exercise management, and for later study in medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic or teaching.

There are two ways in. You can apply directly from high school into Year 1, or as a transfer student into Year 2 or later. Year 1 entry isn't open to transfer students, so if you've already done college or university courses you apply for Year 2.

UVic's Recreation and Health Education degree has its own admission page, so we cover it below only as a comparison.

Course requirements from Ontario

From an Ontario school, UVic lists Chemistry 3U and Physics 3U in Grade 11. In Grade 12 you need English 4U with at least 73%, Advanced Functions 4U with at least 70%, two approved 4U science courses and two more 4U courses. UVic recommends Biology 4U and Physics 4U as your two sciences.

UVic lists both Chemistry 3U and Physics 3U as required, so choose them when you pick Grade 11 courses. Students who skip Grade 11 physics can't meet this list.

The average you need

UVic gives an estimated admission average of a minimum of 92% for Kinesiology, based on the required Grade 12 courses. That figure appears for both the BC and Ontario systems on the program page.

UVic calls this an estimate from recent admission cycles. It says the actual average needed may be higher because of competition and limited space, and that meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission. UVic does not publish an acceptance rate for Kinesiology.

Because UVic counts the required Grade 12 courses, your English, Advanced Functions and sciences matter most. Run your numbers in our Top 6 average calculator, then check those specific courses against 92%.

Dates and how to apply

You apply through EducationPlannerBC, not the OUAC. The application fee is $89.50 if all your transcripts are from Canada and $184.00 if any come from outside Canada.

For September entry, most UVic degree programs close January 31. UVic's deadlines page says admission deadlines are fixed annual dates and does not print the year, so for Fall 2027 that means January 31, 2027. High school students who apply and send grades by early December can be considered for early admission.

UVic adds that some programs keep accepting applications after the deadline, and that applications can close without warning. Apply early. Line up your other dates on our Canadian university deadlines page.

No essay or supplement

UVic's Kinesiology page lists required courses, an estimated average and English language proficiency. It does not list an essay, personal profile, interview or reference for high school applicants.

That means your Grade 12 marks in the required courses decide your file. Protect those courses first.

What first year looks like

UVic's program planning worksheet, effective September 2025, sets out a suggested first year. In the fall term: ATWP 135, EPHE 141, PHYS 102A, one of MATH 102, MATH 109 or MATH 100, and an elective. In the winter term: EPHE 155, EPHE 160, EPHE 143, PSYC 100B and a science elective. UVic says the worksheet is for planning only and the academic calendar is the authority.

UVic says you'll study in anatomy labs with skeletons, fresh tissue dissections and models, and in physiology labs that test the body's energy systems. You also get over 100 hours of supervised practicum experience in health and fitness settings.

Honours is optional. Motivated students who want research experience can apply in third or fourth year.

Co-op and work experience

Co-op is optional for Kinesiology. UVic's school page says work terms begin in January, May and September and usually last four months. The best time to apply for co-op is when you first apply to the program.

The planning worksheet shows four possible work term slots, but only three are required for co-op. If you want just one or two work terms, you can add the Work Experience Program instead. Either way, you must complete EPHE 100 before a work term.

UVic says that on average, 70 percent of its co-op students graduate with a job offer in hand. That figure is for all UVic co-op students, not just kinesiology.

Tuition for 2026-27

UVic's program page shows fees for Kinesiology under its Health tuition group, at rates in force May 1, 2026. For a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, tuition is $3,272 a term, or $6,544 for two terms.

The same estimator adds ancillary fees of $706 for one term or $974 for two terms. These cover the student society, athletics, the bus pass, and the dental and extended health plans. UVic notes that some ancillary fees may change for Fall 2026, and that the estimate leaves out housing, food and books.

UVic's page loads these numbers from its own fee service, so they may not show if your browser blocks scripts. Check the live page before you budget.

Entrance scholarships

UVic gives automatic entrance scholarships based on your admission average. For 2027-28, Canadian citizens and permanent residents with 90% or more (or 32 IB points) get a one-time award of $1,500 to $5,000. International students with an A- or equivalent get $15,000, one time.

Since the Kinesiology estimate is 92%, an admitted Canadian student would likely clear the 90% line. UVic says scholarship values can change each year. Renewable scholarships also need at least a 90% admission average unless the award says otherwise.

How it compares with nearby UVic options

Recreation and Health Education is UVic's closest program. It's a Bachelor of Arts with its own admission page. UVic estimates a minimum 84% for it, well below Kinesiology's 92%. Every Recreation and Health Education student takes part in co-op, while co-op is optional in Kinesiology.

If you want to teach physical and health education in high school, the school says Kinesiology is one of four pathways it offers toward that career.
