Course requirements

Saint Mary's publishes Ontario courses directly. For the Bachelor of Commerce you need English 4U, one math from MHF4U, MCV4U or MDM4U, and three more 4U or M courses. That makes five courses in total. The same page lists the courses for every other province, so students outside Ontario can check their own list there.

Data Management (MDM4U) counts as your math. That is less strict than many business schools, which ask for Advanced Functions or Calculus. Still, first year includes MGSC 1205 Quantitative Methods I and MGSC 1207 Introduction to Data Analytics for Business, so a solid math base helps.

Use our course planner to check that your Grade 12 timetable covers all five courses.

The average you need

Saint Mary's asks for a minimum 70% average, with no mark less than 60%, in the five required courses. That is a published minimum. Saint Mary's does not publish the average of students it admitted to the BComm, so we can't tell you a typical admitted range.

Early admission is possible. Saint Mary's says students who have finished Grade 11 and registered for Grade 12 courses can be considered with at least a 70% average in the five admission courses. If a Grade 12 course is still in progress, the matching Grade 11 course may be used.

Run your marks through our Top 6 average calculator. Saint Mary's uses five set courses, not a top six, so pick out your English, your math and your best three other 4U or M marks.

No essay or interview for admission

The BComm admission page lists courses and grades only. There is no supplementary application, essay, interview or portfolio for admission. You apply online and pay a $65.00 domestic application fee, as listed on the 2026-27 fees page.

Scholarships are different. The Sobey National Innovator Scholarship, worth $50,000 over four years, asks for a 750 word essay. We don't write or edit scholarship essays for students.

Dates for Fall 2027

Saint Mary's important dates page shows the 2026-27 year. It says admission applications open October 1 for the 2027-28 academic year. The last posted fall deadline was August 1, for Fall Term 2026 domestic students. A Fall 2027 deadline is not posted yet, so treat August 1 as last year's date.

The date that matters more is February 15. Saint Mary's says students who apply by February 15 for the September intake are assessed for admissions scholarships. The separate Entrance Awards application runs from October 15, 2026 to February 15, 2027.

What first year looks like

A normal course load is 15 credit hours a term, or five courses. Saint Mary's recommends that all BComm students take the first year BComm Core in year one.

In years three and four you pick your major. Saint Mary's lists 12 majors, including accounting, finance, marketing, sports business and management information systems and analytics. You can also take a double major.

  • ACCT 2241 Introductory Financial Accounting
  • BCOM 1201 Exploring Sustainability
  • ECON 1201 Principles of Microeconomics and ECON 1202 Principles of Macroeconomics
  • MGMT 1281 Introduction to Business Management
  • MGSC 1205 Quantitative Methods I and MGSC 1207 Introduction to Data Analytics for Business
  • MISA 1225 Introduction to Computer Applications
  • Electives: one academic literacy, one global perspective and one non-commerce choice

Co-op is optional

Saint Mary's says a co-op placement is not a degree requirement. If you want it, you can apply directly into the BComm co-op stream when you apply. You can also join later. To be eligible later, you need 45 to 69 credit hours, a declared major and a minimum 2.7 CGPA for non-credit co-op or 2.5 for for-credit co-op.

Co-op has three work terms of four months each. BComm students can earn three credit hours per work term, up to nine credits across three placements. The 2026-27 tuition table lists co-op at $500.00.

Tuition for 2026-27

Saint Mary's charges by the course. For September 2026 to August 2027, commerce tuition is $917.70 per course for Nova Scotia students and $1,046.00 per course for other Canadian students. International students starting in 2026-27 pay $3,301.00 per course. Tuition includes a $13 Sobey School of Business career services fee per course.

Our estimate, not a Saint Mary's figure: five courses a term for two terms is 10 courses a year. At $1,046.00 that is $10,460 in tuition for an Ontario student. At $917.70 it is $9,177 for a Nova Scotia student. Nova Scotia residents also receive a provincial bursary of $128.30 per course.

Fees are extra. The 2026-27 table lists $615.00 in ancillary fees for full-time students, applied each term. The student union fee is $211.50 and the U-Pass bus pass is $184.00 for the year. Residence, meals and books are separate.

Scholarships

Admissions scholarships are based on academic merit. Apply by February 15 to be assessed. Saint Mary's does not list the amounts on its scholarships page.

Entrance awards need one extra application. It opens October 15, 2026 and closes February 15, 2027. You must be accepted or admissible by February 15.

The Sobey National Innovator Scholarship is for students entering the Sobey School of Business. It is worth $50,000 over four years and needs a 93% admission average or higher. To keep it, students admitted in September 2027 or later need a 3.70 grade point average.

For parents

The bar is clear and public. Five set courses, a 70% minimum and no mark under 60%. There is no essay or interview for admission, so your teen's Grade 12 marks decide it.

Budget for the per course model. Every extra course adds to the bill, and co-op terms are charged too. If your teen is aiming for the $50,000 scholarship, the 93% average and the February 15 date are the two things to plan around.
