How McGill admits to Computer Science
McGill doesn't admit straight into a Computer Science major in the Faculty of Science. You apply to a Science group, and Computer Science sits in the Physical, Earth, Math and Computer Sciences Group with math, physics and earth science.
The School of Computer Science says most of its programs start with the same basic courses. That lets you settle your exact program once you've tried the subject. It offers Computer Science within the Bachelor of Science, the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Arts and Science, and the Bachelor of Engineering.
Software Engineering is a separate Bachelor of Engineering program. McGill lists its typical Ontario range as the low to mid 90s. See our McGill Engineering admission requirements for that route.

Course requirements from Ontario
For the Science group, you need 4U English or French, 4U Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), and two of 4U Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
McGill calculates its own Top 6 average from six 4U, DU or 4M courses. At least four of the six, and every prerequisite, must be at the 4U or DU level. Your prerequisites count in the Top 6, and math and science courses must be from the last five years.
English and French as a second language don't count as prerequisites. Plan your Grade 12 courses with our course planner.

Last year's cut-offs
McGill labels the Science figures last year's cut-offs. For the Physical, Earth, Math and Computer Sciences Group, the Ontario Top 6 was the low 90s and the math and science average was the high 80s to low 90s.
For CEGEP students, the September 2026 minimum R-score was 28.0 overall and 28.0 in math and science. McGill says these minimums can change from year to year. IB students saw 35 to 38 points.
McGill doesn't publish a Computer Science acceptance rate. Our McGill acceptance rate page explains what it does publish. Work out your Top 6 with our Top 6 average calculator.

Other routes into computer science at McGill
The Bachelor of Arts and Science lets you pair a major in Arts with one in Science. From Ontario it needs the same prerequisites as Science. McGill's typical minimum ranges are the high 80s to low 90s for the Top 6 and for math and science, and the mid to high 80s in English or French.
The Faculty of Arts lists 4U English or French as its prerequisite and a typical range of the high 80s to low 90s. The School of Computer Science offers programs within the Bachelor of Arts as well.
In Quebec, a DEC in Computer Science and Mathematics (200.C0) makes you eligible for Computer Science without further prerequisites. Students may be admitted with as few as four prerequisites, including Math NYA and NYB plus two sciences, with missing courses added at McGill.

Dates and how to apply
McGill's deadline for Fall 2027 applicants from Canadian high schools outside Quebec is February 1, 2027. You apply online on McGill's own application, which opens October 1. McGill asks for your OUAC number only if you get an offer. The fee is $140.16, and a second application for the same term costs nothing extra.
Ontario students self-report their grades in the McGill Applicant Portal. The first window, February 1 to March 1, is optional. The second, April 1 to May 15, is required if you haven't had a decision. Supporting documents are due May 4.
For September 2026, McGill estimated decisions for Ontario high school students from mid-February to the end of May. Computer Science isn't on McGill's list of programs that need extra documents, so there's no supplement or personal statement.

Your first year
If you have little or no programming experience, McGill offers three introductory courses in Python: COMP 202, COMP 204 and COMP 208. COMP 202 needs only a Grade 12 level math background.
COMP 204 suits students with a life sciences background, and COMP 208 is part of several engineering and physical science programs. McGill accepts any of the three before COMP 250 and COMP 206.
The School lists areas such as operating systems, databases, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer vision and computational biology.

Internships instead of co-op
For paid work experience, McGill Science runs the Science Internship Program. It has two options, and both show on your transcript without adding credits.
The Industrial Practicum lasts at least four months. The Internship Year in Science is for Bachelor of Science students only. It starts in September, January or May and lasts 8, 12 or 16 months. You register your internship through the Science Field Studies and Internship Office before you start.
