Course requirements
Dal's Science entry on the admission requirements page asks for Academic English 12, Pre-calculus Math 12 and three additional academic subjects. The BSc program page lists the same courses. Your average comes from five academic Grade 12 courses.
For Ontario students, Dal's high school page lists ENG4U, ETS4U, NBEU4U or EAE4U for English. For pre-calculus it lists MHF4U or MCV4U. MDM4U counts as academic math for some programs, but not as pre-calculus, so the BSc needs MHF4U or MCV4U.
Dal does not require a science course for the general BSc. First year includes chemistry, biology, physics and math, though. Taking SCH4U and SBI4U in Grade 12 makes that first year much easier. Plan your Grade 12 timetable with our course planner.

The average you need
The published minimum is 75%. Dal adds that this program may use a competitive average, so meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission. Dal does not publish the average of admitted BSc students or an admission range.
Treat 75% as the floor, not the target. Aim higher if you can, because entrance awards typically start at an 80% average. Check your numbers with our Top 6 average calculator. Dal counts five courses, not six, so drop your lowest when you read the result.

No essay, but choose your first year option
The BSc has no supplementary application, essay or interview on Dal's pages. Grades decide. Dal's application fee is $70.
You do make one choice on the form. Science applicants can ask for the Dalhousie Integrated Science Program (DISP), an immersive first year built around teamwork and a hands-on research project. To be eligible you also need two of chemistry, biology or physics and one more university preparatory course. Select the Integrated Science option on your application.
Dal also lets you take first year in some science programs on its Truro campus, where classes are smaller.

Dates for Fall 2027
Dal's dates page does not list a fixed deadline for the general BSc. It says other programs are considered where space is available, until classes start in September. It encourages high school students to apply early for the February 15 entrance award deadline and the May 15 guaranteed residence deadline.
Key dates for September 2027: applications open October 1, 2026. Entrance award applications close February 15, 2027. Offers must be accepted by May 1, 2027 with your admission deposit. Guaranteed residence applications close May 15, 2027.
If you might switch to Medical Sciences, note that the Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences) has its own February 15, 2027 deadline. Compare all your dates on our Canadian university deadlines page.

What first year looks like
Every BSc student starts as an undeclared major. Dal says first year is all about foundational classes in biology, chemistry, physics and math. Most students declare a major at the end of first year, using their first year science and math prerequisites.
Sample first year courses on the program page include Intro Statistics for Science and Health Science, Writing for Sciences, Concepts in Chemistry: Structure and Reactivity, and Principles of Biology. You can also join a First Year Interest Group in Science (FIGS), such as Oceans or Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Science.
Majors listed on the program page include biology, marine biology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science, economics, actuarial science, mathematics, ocean sciences, physics, psychology, neuroscience, and microbiology and immunology. Dal also offers certificates in areas such as genetics and GIS.

Co-op and work terms
Science co-op is optional and you apply after you start. The program page says Science Co-op students complete three work terms between study terms. The Science Co-op page lists who can apply: a GPA of at least 3.0 (3.3 for Microbiology and Immunology), one year of university finished (two in some departments), and enrolment in a discipline with a co-op option.
That page names Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Math and Stats, Microbiology and Immunology, and Physics and Atmospheric Science. Dal warns that acceptance is not guaranteed, even if you meet all requirements.
Co-op has its own fees. Dal charges a one-time $338 fee for the mandatory co-op orientation course and $563 for each four-month work term. The work term fee applies even if you find your own job.

Tuition for 2026-27
Dal charges tuition per course, at the rate of the faculty that teaches it. The 2026-27 fee schedule lists Science at $341.50 per billing hour, $1,024.50 per course and $5,122.50 per term for 15 billing hours. A Science course with an auxiliary fee is $348.70 per billing hour.
The same schedule estimates a Science student's fall term at $6,405.55 and winter term at $5,605.76, including society fees and mandatory incidental fees. Added together, that is about $12,011 for the year. That sum is our arithmetic from Dal's estimates, not a Dal figure. Lab fees, books and living costs are extra.
Dal's tuition page gives a wider estimated range of $10,790 to $13,462 for domestic fall and winter tuition and fees across programs. Residence with a meal plan is estimated at $12,877 to $16,792.

Entrance awards
Dal's General Entrance Award application opens October 1, 2026 and closes February 15, 2027. You must apply to Dal first, then fill in the award form in the application portal. Eligibility typically starts at an 80% average, calculated over the five courses required for your program.
Award decisions use your Grade 12 first semester final grades. Later grades are not used to reassess an award. Ontario students can usually rely on their OUAC number, so Dal receives grades automatically. Dal says it offers more than 2,000 entrance awards each year, worth roughly $1,000 to $80,000.

How the BSc compares to other Dal options
The general BSc is the broadest door into science at Dal. The Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences) is a separate program. It asks for an 80% minimum, Pre-calculus Math 12, Chemistry 12, and Biology 12 or Physics 12. It also has a February 15, 2027 deadline.
If you are set on a health profession, Dal's Science2Health pathway says it can help you meet admission criteria for nursing, dentistry or pharmacy at Dal in three years or less. If you want a direct professional program instead, read our guides to Dalhousie nursing, Dalhousie kinesiology and Dalhousie computer science.
