McGill Sports Complex and B2 Gym: Access and Fees

McGill's main recreation site is the McGill Sports Complex at 475 Pine Avenue West, on the upper edge of the downtown campus. Full-time undergraduates pay a $176.42 Athletics and Recreation fee each fall and winter term, which makes you a member with access to the pool, tracks, courts and fields. The weight room and cardio machines are in the B2 Gym, which needs its own membership: $69.99 plus tax for one term.

What's inside the Sports Complex

The complex stacks its spaces by floor. The squash courts and the B2 Gym are in the basement. The pool and equipment room are on the ground floor, and the Tomlinson Fieldhouse and gyms are on the first floor. The Sport Medicine Clinic is on the third floor.

Most drop-in time is scheduled. McGill moved bookings to a new system called Fusion, launched on Monday, April 20, and some older McGill pages still link to the previous booking site. Start from the recreation portal.

Tomlinson Fieldhouse, the arena and Molson Stadium

The Tomlinson Fieldhouse is the big indoor space: 48,500 square feet with a 200-metre banked track. McGill's intramural free-agent meeting is held there each fall. Forbes Field, between McConnell Arena and McConnell residence, hosts outdoor intramurals and training.

Percival Molson Memorial Stadium is part of the same complex. McGill lists it for varsity sports, track and field and outdoor events, and rents it out, but its pages don't say when students can drop in on the stadium track. The member fee covers indoor and outdoor tracks in general, so check the recreation schedule before you plan a run there.

What the athletics fee covers and what costs extra

You don't sign up for basic membership. If you paid the Athletics and Recreation fee with your non-tuition charges, McGill treats you as a member automatically for the fall and winter terms. That covers the pool, indoor and outdoor tracks, basketball, tennis and squash courts, and the soccer fields. It doesn't cover the B2 Gym, classes, courses, intramural teams or lockers.

From May to August, full-time students must buy a membership to get in. McGill's About page quotes a lower starting price for the B2 Gym than its membership page; the membership page lists the prices below.

Hours, closures and your McGill ID

Until May 3, 2027, the complex opens 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends. Activities start 15 minutes after opening, and you have 30 minutes after closing to leave. The building closes October 12 for Thanksgiving, December 24 to 27, and December 31 to January 1, with shorter hours on December 23, December 28 to 30, and January 2 and 3.

Carry your McGill ID. You need it to enter the B2 Gym, borrow equipment and play intramural games. If you live in New Residence Hall, McGill says its Le Parc gym includes a B2 Gym membership.

At Macdonald Campus, the Stewart Athletic Complex has its own fitness facilities and fields. Its fall hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Intramurals, clubs and varsity games

Every student who has paid the athletics fee can play intramurals. Registration runs by season and sport; for Fall 2026 5-on-5 basketball it opened August 19 and closed September 2. If you don't have a team, join the free-agent list through the Free Agent Form or McGill's free-agent meeting at the start of the fall term. Show your McGill ID or membership card to the scorekeeper before every game.

McGill also lists recreation clubs, including the McGill Triathlon Club, the McGill Olympic Club and a recreational squash club. It points you to more athletic clubs run by the student society, SSMU. For something to watch, McGill's varsity teams compete as the Redbirds and the Martlets.
