Québec residency needs proof, not just a Montréal address
McGill needs proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residence for domestic fees. Québec tuition also needs a provincial residence rule. McGill lists 14 possible situations, including birth in Québec and a parent's main home there. Match the rule to your history before choosing a fee column.
Moving into residence doesn't by itself establish Québec fee status. One route requires a year there without full-time study at a Québec institution. Moving from Ontario straight into full-time classes doesn't meet that condition. Your bill can show a higher rate until documents are approved. A legal-status deferral may protect the disputed amount from interest during the check. It doesn't approve the lower rate.
Some French and Belgian francophone citizens qualify for a different band. Eligible Arts and Science students pay $324.35 per credit in 2026-27. A French citizen without Canadian status needs a valid passport and study permit. They also need a Québec acceptance certificate, or CAQ. This exemption gives Canadian undergraduate tuition treatment. It doesn't grant Québec residency or a bursary payment.

Your degree and entry year change the tuition rate
Arts and Science use the same basic domestic tuition. Our arithmetic confirms the posted 30-credit totals: $103.92 × 30 = $3,117.60 for Québec, and $432.85 × 30 = $12,985.50 for the newer Canadian band. The protected $324.35 band gives $324.35 × 30 = $9,730.50. Older Canadian entrants must finish within five years of Fall 2024 to keep it. A degree change or a break of four or more terms, including summer, ends that protection.
Engineering and Commerce have their own non-Québec rates. Their Fall 2026 prices aren't the general Arts rate. Fall 2026 Canadian non-Québec BEng and BCom entrants have a conditional tuition guarantee. Other fees can rise. Use the McGill Engineering guide or Desautels Commerce guide to match your degree. This table prices BEng and BCom, not graduate study.
International tuition follows your degree's entry year. The 2026-27 calculator gives BA tuition of $54,000 for Fall 2026 entrants and $48,999.90 for Fall 2025 entrants. Transferring degrees resets the guarantee to the new degree's current entry rate. The guarantee policy treats more than one non-summer term away as a break. That's narrower than the PDFs' broad no-break wording. Confirm a planned leave with Student Accounts.

Academic fees and health coverage need separate checks
Society fees differ across degrees. Student services and athletics depend on credit load. In 2026-27, a downtown term of at least 9 credits carries $219.07 for services and $176.42 for athletics. Our two-term sum is ($219.07 + $176.42) × 2 = $790.98. A reduced load changes some charges. It doesn't reduce the whole annual bill by the same fraction.
The calculator includes insurance. Canadian undergraduates starting in Fall pay $345 for supplemental health and dental coverage. The plan belongs to the Students' Society of McGill University, or SSMU. International undergraduates pay $150 for SSMU dental alongside international health insurance. Provincial health coverage has a separate role. Check your coverage and opt-out rules before removing a charge.
Two official versions differ. The international BA PDF estimates $57,569.02 and uses $1,155 insurance labelled 2025-26. The current calculator totals $57,646.94 with $1,212 insurance for 2026-27. Student Accounts prints $1,212 under a stale 2025-26 heading; International Student Services dates it clearly. The Canadian Science and Commerce French/Belgian footnotes still say $1,151. We show that mismatch and use the dated $1,212 rate in our example.

Residence food charges sit beside monthly rent
McGill bills rent monthly. The selected rooms above share an 8.45-month lease. Our multiplication prices that full lease. The $6,150 All You Care To Eat plan is required in the listed traditional and modern dorms. Its charge is added to rent. A description of dining within residence life doesn't mean food is included in the room price.
Solin is an apartment residence with a kitchen. Its table lists $600 oneCard and a $35 activity fee, with no mandatory meal charge. Budget food separately. Laird's Macdonald table lists $400 oneCard and the same activity fee. Neither uses downtown's $500 Flex charge. Our McGill residence guide compares the buildings. Check your own offer's charges.
Housing's latest instructions ask for a $1,500 deposit and a $35 application fee. These differ from the admission deposit. Record both payment stages. Leaving residence has its own costs, even if you withdraw from classes too.

Read the worked budget as a selected cost example
This example uses the current international BA table and one named room. It keeps dental and health insurance visible. An insurance update isn't a tuition rise. The academic subtotal includes the five other fee lines shown. Don't add the separate administrative charge again.
We multiply $1,100 monthly rent by the posted 8.45-month lease. Meal, Flex and activity charges are added once. McGill estimates about $1,000 for undergraduate books each academic year. That yearless estimate varies by program. Transport, travel and personal spending remain extra. Application fees and deposit cash flow need separate checks. Add your actual costs before deciding you can fund the year. A different room or insurance exemption changes this example.

Deposits, tuition due dates and payment methods
The latest admission deposit is $500 for Canadian and Québec students or $1,000 for international students. It's credited when you enrol, so don't add it to the full tuition total. Not enrolling or withdrawing can forfeit it. These undergraduate amounts have no Fall 2027 label. Confirm the amount and deadline in your offer.
New student tuition is due August 31, 2026 for Fall and January 6, 2027 for Winter. The 2026-27 meal bills differ: $3,575 at the end of September and $3,075 at the end of January. The first includes $500 Flex. McGill's international FAQ says there isn't a tuition instalment plan. Monthly rent doesn't create a monthly tuition agreement.
Deposits use a credit card; regular tuition payments can't. Canadian online banking uses your student ID as the account number. A parent can pay that way too. Processing normally takes 1 to 3 business days. Allow that time and read your statement. You're still responsible for payment by the deadline.

Government aid can arrive after a tuition bill
Apply for government aid through your home province. Studying in Montréal doesn't move an Ontario resident into Québec's aid system. McGill handles program forms in late July for Fall and late November for Winter. Enrolment checks generally begin in mid-August or early December. Those windows don't promise a date for your funds.
If you're waiting for aid, request a tuition deferral through Minerva. You must qualify and have no prior unpaid tuition or fees. The form normally opens in mid-July for Fall and mid-December for Winter. Apply by the fee deadline and repeat each term. The approved amount appears as a pre-authorized credit. Your e-bill isn't replaced. Read that credit alongside the balance.
Deferrals generally cover tuition, certain academic fees and insurance. Rent, meals and printing stay due. McGill's Fall government-aid category defers eligible fees through October, with payment due at the end of November. Budget for housing separately. Our OSAP guide explains Ontario aid steps; McGill handles its own confirmations.

Withdrawal dates decide which academic fees return
The normal 2026-27 add/drop dates are September 15, 2026 and January 19, 2027. Withdrawal-with-refund deadlines follow on September 22 and January 26. At that later stage, dropping a course can leave a withdrawal grade. After it, withdrawing doesn't normally return the fee. Normal no-refund withdrawal deadlines are October 27, 2026 and February 23, 2027.
Leaving the whole university keeps a charge. Returning students lose a $200 cancellation fee from their academic refund. New students lose the admission deposit or $200, whichever is higher. Stopping attendance isn't a withdrawal. Follow your faculty's process and check special course dates.
Fall 2027's confirmed full-refund withdrawal deadline is September 21, 2027, with those deposit or cancellation deductions. Housing and meals follow separate refund terms. A course refund doesn't cancel a lease. Changing your load can also affect aid. Speak to Student Aid before making the change.

Scholarships and bursaries change funding, not the price
Eligible first-time, full-time degree entrants receive automatic consideration for a $3,000 one-year scholarship. No separate form is needed. Meeting the academic requirements doesn't promise an award. Major scholarships need another application and have renewal rules. Budget only the award you're offered. Our McGill financial-aid guide explains those paths.
Need-based entrance bursaries have a separate Minerva application after admission. You don't need to accept the offer first. McGill recommends applying within 30 days of formal acceptance while funds remain. Its page prints November 15, 2025 to June 30, 2026. That's an older window, not confirmed Fall 2027 dates. Awarded bursaries reach your fee account in equal parts at the start of Fall and Winter.
The Canada Award notice says that award was last offered in 2025-26 and is no longer available. Don't subtract an old advertised offset from a new 2026 or 2027 entrant's tuition. Also separate residence placement from funding. Housing says entrance scholars receive a top-two building choice; Student Aid says top-three. Neither says the room is free. Ask Housing to settle the choice rule before ranking rooms.

What a Fall 2027 applicant can budget now
The pages checked October 13, 2026 publish 2026-27 tuition and housing prices. The calculator has no 2027-28 option. These are reference costs for planning. We haven't added a guessed increase. Fall 2027's confirmed refund date doesn't confirm its tuition, deposits or bursary window.
Deferring entry changes the pricing year. McGill uses the year you enrol after admission. Keep the McGill hub beside your McGill admissions and dates guide. Recheck costs on February 1, 2027 and before accepting an offer or paying a deposit. Our Canadian deadline comparison covers your other choices.
