McGill Meal Plan and Dining Halls
If you live in a downtown McGill dorm, the All You Care to Eat meal plan is mandatory and you can't opt out. For 2026-27 it costs $6,150, plus $500 in oneCard Flex dollars, for $6,650 in total. It gives you unlimited swipes at four dining halls from August 22, 2026 to April 30, 2027. Solin Hall, the shared houses and Macdonald's Laird Hall have no meal plan.

Who has to buy the plan
McGill ties the plan to your building. If you're assigned to a traditional or modern dorm downtown, the plan comes with the room. That includes the quiet dorm buildings, Douglas Hall and University Hall. McGill's meal plan FAQ says there are no exemptions.
Every residence student also gets a card account on the McGill ID card at move-in. Which one you get depends on your building.
| Where you live | Meal plan | Card account at move-in |
|---|---|---|
| RVC, Gardner, McConnell, Molson, University Hall, Douglas Hall, Carrefour Sherbrooke, La Citadelle, New Residence Hall | Mandatory All You Care to Eat, $6,150 | oneCard Flex, $500 |
| Solin Hall and the downtown shared houses | None | oneCard, $600 |
| Laird Hall, Macdonald Campus | None | oneCard, $400 |
| Off-campus students | Not required | Optional oneCard; online top-ups start at $50 |
What it costs and when you pay
The plan is billed to your student fee account in two instalments. The September bill covers half the plan plus all of the Flex dollars. The January bill covers the other half. The plan has no balance to track and nothing carries over, so you simply swipe your McGill ID at the door.
| Item | 2026-27 amount | Billed |
|---|---|---|
| All You Care to Eat plan | $6,150 | $3,075 at the end of September; $3,075 at the end of January |
| oneCard Flex dollars | $500 | End of September, once; unused Flex expires at the end of April |
| Total | $6,650 | $3,575 in September; $3,075 in January |
The four dining halls and their hours
Your plan works at all four residential dining halls. Bishop Mountain Hall and RVC are open to anyone who pays at the door. Carrefour Sherbrooke and New Residence Hall serve meal-plan residents only. The hours below are McGill's published hours of service; the hot meal times sit inside them.
Three residence cafés serve only the people who live there: Douglas Hall (weekday breakfast pantry, 7:30 to 11 a.m.), La Citadelle (weekdays, 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.) and RVC, which also serves University Hall (weekday pantry to 9 p.m. and hot dinner 5 to 8:30 p.m.). All three close on weekends. Carrefour Sherbrooke's C4 Lounge adds late-night snacks from 8 to 11:30 p.m. every day for meal-plan students.
| Dining hall | Address | Who can eat there | Weekdays | Weekends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bishop Mountain Hall | 3935 University | Anyone | 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; hot dinner 5 to 8:30 p.m. | 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; brunch 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. |

| Carrefour Sherbrooke | 475 Sherbrooke St. West | Meal-plan residents | 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; hot dinner 5 to 9 p.m. | 9 or 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (McGill's pages differ); brunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. |
| New Residence Hall | 3625 Park Ave. | Meal-plan residents | 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; hot dinner 5 to 9 p.m. | 9 or 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (McGill's pages differ); brunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. |
Kosher, halal, allergies and paying at the door
McGill says vegetarian, vegan, made-without-gluten and halal options are available every day. All bone-in chicken in dining hall entrées is halal certified, and Toum Café in the McConnell Engineering Building uses only halal-certified meat. If you have a food allergy or a specific restriction, McGill Food and Dining Services can connect you with its dietitian.
If you keep kosher, you can switch to the Kosher Meal Plan. For 2026-27, McGill asks for a written request by September 30, 2026. It costs the same $6,650, but it's a declining balance you can spend at Le PlezL / Chabad House, an affiliated kosher restaurant off campus, and at the dining halls. Fall funds expire December 22, 2026, winter funds expire April 30, 2027, and unused funds aren't refunded.
Not on a plan? You can still eat at Bishop Mountain Hall or RVC by paying one flat price at the door.
| Meal | Price at the door, 2026-27 |
|---|---|
| Breakfast | $11.00 plus tax |
| Lunch | $16.00 plus tax |
| Dinner | $16.50 plus tax |
House rules, refunds and moving buildings
Meals are dine-in only. You can't take food out or bring your own containers, and you need your McGill ID to enter. Lending your card to someone else counts as theft under McGill's rules.
If you withdraw from McGill or from residence, you can get a pro-rated refund of the plan minus a $150 administrative fee. You must send written confirmation by November 1 for the fall term or March 1 for the winter term; McGill gives no refunds after those dates. A Flex balance of $50 or more is refunded only if you withdraw on or before November 1. If you move to another meal-plan residence, the plan moves with you.
- A regular oneCard balance rolls over from year to year.
- oneCard dollars are refunded on written request after you leave McGill, if the balance is $50 or more.
- Your oneCard also works at over 20 campus food locations and in the McGill Campus Store.
