University of Victoria Acceptance Rate: What Official Data Shows
The University of Victoria does not publish a current undergraduate acceptance rate. It measures one — its Institutional Planning and Analysis office names a live report called “Applicants, Admits, Registrants and Registrant FTE” — but that report sits inside a Power BI application that requires a UVic staff login. The most recent applicant and admission report UVic still publishes openly covers Fall 2006. Here is exactly what UVic makes public, what it withholds, and what actually decides a UVic offer today.

What UVic publishes instead of a rate
UVic frames undergraduate admission around averages, not around the share of applicants it admits. Its current undergraduate viewbook gives an “estimated admission average” for every direct-entry program, then attaches this footnote:
“Annual cut-offs vary by program based on capacity. The actual admission average cut-offs change on an annual basis.”
A second footnote on the same tables adds that “minimum course grade requirements change on an annual basis and meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission.” That is UVic’s explanation for publishing an estimate rather than a rate: the bar moves with each year’s applicant pool and the seats available in each program. Checked live on August 25, 2026, neither UVic’s undergraduate admissions home page nor its how-to-apply instructions use the phrase “acceptance rate” or “admission rate” anywhere.
Where UVic’s application numbers actually live
Unlike most Canadian universities that publish nothing at all, UVic openly lists the reports it keeps. Its Institutional Planning and Analysis office names five current applicant reports — covering applications, prospects, applicants, admits, registrants, admit types, decision codes, citizenship and immigration status — and then states that “all current applicant and admission reports can be found in the UVic Power BI Reporting System app: UVic Admissions.” That app is restricted to UVic accounts, and the office runs staff training sessions for it. The funnel exists; the public simply cannot open it.
The enrolment side is similar. UVic’s Factbook tables cover headcounts, full-time equivalents, co-op participation and previous institution, and the office states they “will require you to login to the portal using your personal (not departmental) NetLinkID and password.” Every table listed is a count of registered students rather than an application-to-offer funnel, so none of them can be converted into an acceptance rate. One export, Factbook Table 11 (Undergraduates New to UVic by Year), is still openly reachable, but the published version stops at 2021 — it records 4,709 undergraduates new to UVic at the November 1, 2021 snapshot, which is an enrolled headcount, not an offer count. UVic’s “other reports” archive contains nothing newer on admissions either; its most recent items are a 2014 VP Academic executive summary and BC college transfer profiles that end at 2002/03.
British Columbia also has no provincial fallback. UVic applications run through EducationPlannerBC rather than Ontario’s OUAC, and Common University Data Ontario covers Ontario institutions only, with no British Columbia counterpart. Rather than substitute an unofficial estimate, this guide reports plainly that no current UVic application, offer, or admitted-student count is publicly available.
The last admission rate UVic published: Fall 2006
UVic’s applicant-report archive runs from Fall 1997 to Fall 2006, and the Fall 2006 edition — “Applicant, Admission and Arrival Patterns at UVic” — is the newest one still downloadable without a login. It is a complete undergraduate funnel, and UVic itself labels the percentages.

The 72.9% admitted share is UVic’s own published figure, not one we derived; dividing 8,443 offers by 11,576 applicants reproduces it exactly. The same report records the cut-offs UVic applied that year: 76% for secondary-school applicants to Humanities, Social Sciences and Science, unchanged from 2005, and 65% for post-secondary transfer applicants. Registrants that autumn arrived with a mean secondary-school average of 83.2%.
Treat all of this as history, not guidance. It describes the 2006/2007 intake. UVic’s programs, capacity and applicant pool have all changed since — its current Science estimate alone sits nine points above that 76% cut-off — so a twenty-year-old 72.9% is not the University of Victoria acceptance rate today. It is simply the last one UVic let the public see.
What actually determines UVic admission
This is the table UVic wants applicants to use. Its current viewbook publishes an estimated admission average for each direct-entry program, with US GPA and IB equivalents, plus the Ontario prerequisite courses. The spread is wide: 75% for Music, Theatre and Visual Arts against 92% for Kinesiology. Which program you choose changes your odds far more than the university does.
