UVic Course Registration: Time Tickets and Online Tools

At UVic, you register for courses in Online Tools. Registration for the Winter Session (September to April) opens in June, and you can sign up for fall and spring terms at the same time. Every student gets a time ticket about a week before registration opens; it shows the earliest date and time you can register. Clear any holds on your account first, then register as soon as your time ticket opens, because classes fill quickly.

When you can register

The exact first day is in UVic's academic calendar. UVic emails you when your time ticket is assigned, at the preferred address in your profile, so add @uvic.ca to your safe senders.

Check your registration status

  • In Online Tools, open Student services, then Registration, then Registration status, and pick the term.
  • You'll see your registration date and time (Pacific Time), any holds that would stop you registering, approved prerequisite overrides and your program details.
  • Fix any holds before your date.
  • If you have trouble getting in, sign out of UVic pages, clear your browser cache and cookies, and try again.

Choosing courses and sections

Every course has one or more sections: lectures, tutorials or labs, each at set times. Register for every section a course needs. Once the timetable is published, use Search for classes in Online Tools; the % sign works as a wildcard, so 2% finds all 200-level courses. Section Status shows how many seats and waitlist spots are left.

Talk to an academic adviser before you choose if you're unsure what your program needs.

Prerequisites and transfer credit

  • Check the academic calendar for prerequisites (completed before) and corequisites (completed before or at the same time).
  • If you don't have a required prerequisite or corequisite, you'll be dropped once the term begins. Departments can sometimes waive one; approved waivers show on your registration status page.
  • If you want transfer credit from another school to count as a prerequisite, contact the department before you register.
  • You can audit up to three units of undergraduate courses a session without credit. Most courses are 1.5 units.
