Choose Psychology with the BA and BSc in view
You can apply to Psychology from high school or through the stated transfer route. The department offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science. Both study behaviour and mental processes through evidence. A BA isn't simply a discussion-based alternative to a scientific degree. It still includes Biology, computing and quantitative work. Read what you would study before choosing a degree from the letters alone.
The department describes four content streams: mental health and well-being, social psychology, lifespan, and mind and brain. These guide later course choices. They aren't four separate Grade 12 admission averages. You can explore the subject before narrowing your interests. For example, questions about ageing and questions about cognition can draw on quite different methods, even though both sit within Psychology. Look at the actual course sequence rather than treating a career title as the degree plan.
The UVic school hub explains the wider university. Our Science entry guide covers a different school course list. Don't copy its broad Science maths floor into the Psychology entry list. Equally, don't assume Psychology's flexible school entry means every later science course is open without the relevant preparation. The distinction matters most when you are deciding between the BA and BSc.

Check Ontario subjects and the English course floor
For Ontario, the current Psychology page lists English 4U at 73% and five additional 4U or 4M courses. A 4U course is university preparation. A 4M course combines university and college preparation. The checked list does not add Grade 12 Biology, Chemistry or Calculus as a universal condition for admission to Psychology. Keep the required English mark separate from the overall estimated admission average.
That entry flexibility gives you choices, but your later degree still needs careful planning. The BSc worksheet names two Biology courses and a specific maths choice. Those university courses can have their own school prerequisites. If the BSc is a serious option, check them before dropping a senior science or maths. Ask academic advising how a missing prerequisite could be completed. Don't assume that a degree admission offer overrides a course-level rule.
Use the high school course planner to keep your possible degrees beside your present subjects. Include the required courses for other schools too. A timetable that meets UVic Psychology can still miss a required subject elsewhere. Your next decision is which options you want to preserve. The university owns equivalency decisions, so ask about an unusual course title or a mixed school record before relying on it.

Read the 82% figure under the school's exact label
UVic prints Estimated admission average: Minimum 82%, based on the required Grade 12 courses. It explains that the estimate uses recent admission cycles. The actual average needed may be higher when demand rises or places are limited. The 2027-28 viewbook gives Social Sciences the same 82% estimate for Canadian curricula. Neither source identifies the underlying admitted cohort beside that number. The publication year and the cohort year are different facts.
Use 82% as the published planning context. It isn't an entering-class mean, an acceptance rate or a guaranteed Fall 2027 cutoff. The 73% English floor is a different condition. A strong overall result doesn't excuse a missing English mark. Nor does meeting the English floor show that your full record sits within the estimated context. Recheck the guidance on November 1, 2026 and retain any new figure's actual label and year.
An Ontario Top 6 calculation can help you see your present school record. It doesn't calculate a personal chance of admission. Other curricula also have different subject counts and assessment rules. Keep the result with its assumptions, then use UVic's own curriculum list for your application. Compare another degree you would be willing to study rather than planning around a promise the university hasn't made.

Use the right province or international credential
BC and Yukon applicants need the listed junior English, maths, science and social studies preparation. At Grade 12, the list requires English Studies or English First Peoples at 73%, plus three approved academic courses. Alberta uses English Language Arts 30-1 at 73% and three approved academic 30/31 courses. These aren't six-course Ontario calculations. Read the full curriculum entry for your school and check the approved subjects it links.
For Saskatchewan, the current page distinguishes the regular English A30/B30 route from newer graduation programs requiring one senior English. It gives a 73% English floor and explains averaging A30/B30 where that pair applies. The Northwest Territories has another dated distinction: 2027-or-later graduates use BC-based requirements; earlier graduates use Alberta-based requirements. Match the curriculum and graduation year rather than selecting the most convenient subject list.
IB entry requires the full Diploma with at least three Higher Level subjects and English at Higher or Standard Level with at least 3. The estimated Diploma score is 28 before additional points. US guidance estimates 3.30 cumulative unweighted GPA. British-patterned guidance estimates BBC across three A Levels, alongside the allowed credential combinations and minimum C exam grades. These estimates use unnamed recent cycles. Other countries have their own credentials, and English proficiency is a separate check where required.

Apply by January 31 and follow your personal checklist
The fetched 2027-28 viewbook explicitly confirms January 31, 2027 for Fall 2027 applications. Start through EducationPlannerBC and choose the intended UVic program. After applying, use the UVic portal to follow your file. The Canadian university deadlines guide can hold your other schools alongside this date. A deadline for an Ontario application service does not replace the date for this BC university.
The checked Psychology instructions list no mandatory admissions essay, portfolio, interview or Casper test. UVic's expanded-qualifications route is an optional route for a limited number of Canadian high school students. It isn't a compulsory Psychology supplement or an automatic waiver of missing subjects. If you use that route, read its own criteria and submission steps. Don't send an unsolicited essay as a substitute for the requested academic record.
The transcript process depends on your school background. BC and Yukon applicants use the StudentTranscripts Service. Other current school applicants follow the upload instructions for in-progress results. Graduates arrange official final records as directed. Your file also shows any language-evidence deadline. No single document date is invented here. Check the list after applying and again when the university asks for updated marks or a final record.

Plan the later degree, co-op and research stages
Both planning worksheets are effective September 2026. The BA includes Biology courses, computing, a maths or logic requirement, writing and PSYC 100A/100B. The BSc specifically lists BIOL 184/186 and one of MATH 100, 102, 109 or 151, plus later science. Both retain the Psychology core. These are current planning references, not a final course audit for someone entering in Fall 2027. Read the then-current calendar before registration.
The worksheets say students normally request program declaration at the end of first year. A declared program gives you a degree evaluation to track progress. Honours is a later option involving original research with a supervisor. It has its own entry process. Neither a high school offer nor interest in mental health guarantees a lab place, an honours supervisor or admission to a clinical graduate degree. Choose an undergraduate course plan you would value in its own right.
Psychology co-op is optional. The current Social Sciences page requires full-time study, completion of first year and good standing for Psychology. Three undergraduate work terms earn the co-op designation. Completing only one or two has a different result. Employer selection and work-stream admission remain separate. Read the work-search tasks and fees before budgeting around a placement. Recheck later criteria when you reach that stage rather than projecting current rules across the whole degree.

Keep the fee year visible and choose your next task
UVic's tuition estimator uses rates effective May 1, 2026. The 2027-28 viewbook also keeps its cost references tied to older rate periods. Those figures aren't approved Fall 2027 tuition. Your faculty, residency and course load affect the estimate. Housing and future work-term charges need their own checks. Keep the year with every budget item, and don't count an optional co-op job as money already available for first year.
Read the university's financial aid section and residence information for the next planning questions. First, check English and all six Ontario courses, or your own curriculum's subject set. Then compare the BA and BSc worksheets and the prerequisites of their early university courses. Apply by January 31, 2027. Recheck the undated estimate and unapproved fees on November 1, 2026.
