Course requirements
The BCom asks for English Language Arts 30-1, Mathematics 30-1 and three more subjects from fine arts, humanities, languages other than English, or math and sciences. The U of A says the BCom accepts students directly from high school, so you do not start in another faculty first.
For Ontario students, English can be ENG4U, EAL4U or ETS4U, and math is Advanced Functions (MHF4U). Humanities and social sciences cover about 25 courses, from Analyzing Current Economic Issues (CIA4U) to World History (CHY4U). Languages include FSF4U, FEF4U, FRA4U, FIF4U and international languages at level 4. Only Grade 12 U or M courses count. Plan your Grade 12 year with our course planner.

The mid to high 80s average
The Alberta School of Business says admission is competitive and the high school average may vary by year. It does not post a Fall 2027 cut-off. The U of A's competitive requirements page lists a three-year trend for Business of mid to high 80s for high school applicants. The U of A says meeting these figures does not guarantee admission.
The U of A does not publish a Business acceptance rate. Our University of Alberta acceptance rate page covers what it shares overall. Use our Top 6 average calculator to estimate where you stand, then count only the five courses the U of A uses.

Fall 2027 dates
Applications for admission, awards and residence open October 1, 2026. The BCom deadline is March 1, 2027. If you are eligible, you can send new final marks from first semester by February 19, 2027. Self-report your final high school marks by April 30, 2027. Accept offers made before April 1 by May 1, 2027.
The U of A's two business pages list different final transcript dates for high school students. The BCom overview page and the U of A dates page say August 1, 2027. The BCom admissions page says August 15, 2026, which looks like an old date. Please confirm with the U of A. Compare other schools on our Canadian university deadlines page.

Majors and how the degree runs
The BCom is a four-year degree. In second year you take six primary core courses, two electives outside the faculty and two more electives. You must choose a major by the start of third year. You can change your major or minor in September, January or April.
There are 12 majors: Accounting, Business Analytics, Business Economics and Law, Business Studies, Business Technology Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing, Operations Management, and Strategy and Management. International Business students must also declare a minor. The school also offers a Bilingual BCom, an Honors BCom, case competitions and study abroad.

BCom co-op
Co-op is an option, not part of the first-year offer. All BCom students, including study permit holders, can apply after completing 24 credits toward the degree. Co-op students complete twelve months of paid work, alternating with study. The U of A says this adds one semester or one year to the degree.
The Careers and Work Integrated Learning Office helps, but the school says finding a work term is the student's responsibility. An officer checks in at least once each work term, and you write a report for each term. The co-op page does not list a GPA cut-off, fees or salary figures.
Transferring in later
If you do not get in from high school, you can apply later as a transfer student. From October 1, 2026, you need 24 units of transferable courses, the five high school subjects and an admission GPA of at least 2.3. The school says 2.3 has historically not been competitive. The U of A's competitive page lists a transfer range of 2.5 and above for Business.
Transfer applicants have the same March 1, 2027 deadline, accept by May 1, 2027 and send final transcripts by June 15, 2027.

Tuition for 2026-27
The U of A's 2026-2027 tuition page for Canadian citizens and permanent residents lists Business courses at $1,152 per 3-credit course. A full year of ten courses would be about $11,520 by our arithmetic, before mandatory fees and books. Courses outside Business may be charged a different rate.
International students pay a different rate set out on the U of A's international tuition pages, so check those if you will study on a permit.

Scholarships
Some entrance awards are automatic. For Fall 2027, the top 5% of domestic students in each faculty could receive up to $6,000 through the Gold Standard Scholarship. First Nations, Métis and Inuit applicants with an 80% average or higher may receive $1,500. Students in Canadian high schools on a study permit may receive up to $10,000.
The separate entrance award application opens October 1, 2026 and closes January 10, 2027. That is earlier than the admission deadline, so apply for awards first.

Residence for first year
Residence applications open October 1, 2026, the same day as admission. To get a guaranteed spot on North Campus, apply by April 30, 2027. If you are coming from Ontario or another province, apply for residence early so the April 30 date does not pass while you wait on other offers.

For parents
The Alberta School of Business admits on grades, straight from high school. Your child needs English, Advanced Functions and three more Grade 12 courses, ideally with a mid to high 80s average. There is no essay or interview.
Mark January 10, 2027 for awards and March 1, 2027 for the application. Co-op comes later, after 24 credits, and adds time to the degree. Budget about $11,520 in 2026-27 Business tuition plus fees and housing. Compare other schools on our UBC Sauder and Queen's Commerce pages, and read our University of Alberta guide.
