Course requirements
Laurentian's Kinesiology page lists these Ontario prerequisites: one Grade 12 English U or M course, Grade 12 4U Advanced Functions, Grade 12 4U Chemistry, and three other Grade 12 U or M courses. It strongly recommends Physics and Calculus.
Take that advice seriously. First year includes PHYS 1206E and PHYS 1207E, Physics for the Life Science I and II, and second year includes a choice of MATH 1036E Calculus I or MATH 1057E Linear Algebra I. Biology is not a prerequisite, but BIOL 2105E Human Anatomy and Physiology is in first year, so SBI4U is useful too.
Laurentian's general rules say every high school applicant must finish six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses and earn the OSSD. Plan your timetable with our course planner.

The average you need
Laurentian asks for a minimum overall average of 75% in your six best Grade 12 U or M courses. It does not publish a past admitted average for Kinesiology, so treat 75% as a floor.
Students in semestered schools may get an early conditional offer if their Grade 11 average meets or beats the program average and they're on track to finish six Grade 12 4U or 4M courses by June. Everyone else is reviewed on an ongoing basis as new grades arrive. If you get an offer, you must reply by June 1.

How and when to apply
Canadian citizens and permanent residents apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). Laurentian's apply page lists January 15 as the September entry deadline for Ontario high school students, for all programs without their own deadline. Kinesiology isn't on its list of program-specific deadlines. The page doesn't print a year, so confirm the 2027 date in OUAC.
High school students from outside Ontario have until August 1 for September entry. Within two days of applying, Laurentian emails you a student number to log in to the myLaurentian portal. There is no essay, interview or supplementary form for Kinesiology. See all OUAC dates on our Ontario deadlines page.

What you study
The degree is 120 credits. First year includes PHED 0199E Outdoor School I, PHED 1006E Exercise Science, Wellness and Health, BIOL 2105E Human Anatomy and Physiology, PSYC 1105E Introduction to Psychology, two physics courses, and a chemistry course. Outdoor School I runs before classes start, and you must pass a basic aquatics skill test.
To move into second year, you need a current CPR (level C) and First Aid certificate, handed in before February 28. Upper years cover biomechanics, motor learning, ergonomics, exercise physiology and gerontology. Third-year courses include PHED 3126E Physiology of Exercise, PHED 3209E Therapeutic Exercise and PHED 3229E Gerontology and Exercise. Laurentian says fourth-year classes have about 10 to 25 students.
To stay in good standing, you can't fail more than 3 credits in a year and must keep a cumulative average of at least 4.0. A student who fails more than 6 credits in first year may not move on to upper-year PHED courses. Graduates can write the entry to practice exam to become a registered kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.

Internship, thesis and co-op
The Kinesiology page does not list a co-op option. Instead, fourth year includes PHED 4816E Kinesiology Internship in the program of study, in areas such as rehabilitation, ergonomics or gerontology.
The page is not consistent about the research project. One paragraph says all students complete a major research project and applied internships. Another calls the internship required and the research thesis optional. The fourth-year course list shows PHED 4805E Thesis in Kinesiology or 6 credits of PHED electives. Confirm with the School of Kinesiology and Health Sciences before you plan around it.

Tuition for 2026-27
Laurentian's tuition page lists 2026-2027 fees for 30 credits under all programs, and Kinesiology isn't one of the listed exceptions. For Ontario residents, tuition is $6,120.31. With incidental and SGA association fees of $1,255.45, the total is $7,375.76.
For students from outside Ontario, tuition is $7,023.15, or $8,278.60 with incidental and SGA fees. Some courses carry extra fees, and residence and meals are separate.

Laurentian enrols you automatically in its Academic Excellence awards when you apply, based on your top six Grade 12 4U or M marks. At 80 to 84.9% you can get up to $6,000 ($1,500 in first year). At 85 to 89.9%, up to $8,000. At 90 to 94.9%, up to $16,000. At 95% or higher, up to $20,000 ($5,000 in first year). Each renews if you keep your average.
Students with a 75 to 79% average and a full 30 credit load get a $750 Academic Access Award applied to their tuition automatically. Laurentian also lists program awards open to Kinesiology students, some of which need an application.

Kinesiology or Sport and Physical Education?
Laurentian also offers a Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (BPHE) in Sport and Physical Education. It needs a Grade 12 English and a Grade 12 Biology or Exercise Science course, with no math or chemistry prerequisite, and the same 75% minimum. It focuses on teaching, coaching and fitness, with a fourth-year internship in schools or community programs.
Laurentian says BPHE graduates can also take the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario licensing exam. BPHE activity courses include dance, basketball, volleyball, soccer, cross-country skiing and yoga. Choose the BSc if you like lab science, biomechanics and rehabilitation. Choose the BPHE if you see yourself teaching or coaching. For other Ontario options, see our Lakehead Kinesiology guide.

For parents
Laurentian publishes a clear 75% minimum, but chemistry and Advanced Functions are firm prerequisites. Make sure both are on your child's Grade 12 timetable.
