Course requirements

The average you need

UNB lists a minimum admission average of 75%. The calendar says all admissions are competitive and that meeting the minimum does not guarantee admission. It adds that normally no more than 100 students are admitted to first year in the Faculty of Kinesiology each year.

UNB does not publish the average of admitted kinesiology students. With a cap near 100, plan to be well above 75%. Your admission average uses the courses required for the program. If a Grade 12 course is still in progress, UNB estimates it from the Grade 11 prerequisite. It does not accept mid-term grades.

Check where you stand with our Top 6 average calculator. UNB counts five courses here, so look at your best five that fit the list.

No essay or interview

UNB's program page and requirements tool list no supplementary form, essay, interview or video for high school applicants. Grades decide.

One exception is for transfers. The calendar says transfer applicants normally need a 3.0 session GPA, and UNB also looks at their record of interest in kinesiology, recreation and sport science. If you plan to start elsewhere and switch, keep that in mind.

Dates for Fall 2027

Kinesiology has no separate deadline on UNB's important dates page. It lists March 1 for scholarship applications and March 31 as the general application deadline for the fall term. You accept your offer and pay the deposit by May 15.

The page shows these dates without a year and still mentions an April 3, 2026 deposit draw. Treat them as last year's dates and confirm the Fall 2027 dates with UNB. UNB says programs accept late fall applications while seats remain. With about 100 spots, apply early.

What first year looks like

The BScKin needs at least 129 credit hours. Year 1 is 37 credit hours. It includes KIN 1001 Introduction to Kinesiology, KIN 1063 Biomechanics I, KIN 1160 Laboratory Methods in Kinesiology and KIN 2032 Introduction to Sport and Leisure Psychology.

You also take BIOL 1001 Biological Principles, BIOL 1711 Human Anatomy I and BIOL 1782 Human Physiology I, plus an English course and a social science. You need at least a C in every required core course.

The program page says lab work starts in first year, with tests such as motion analysis and VO2 max testing.

Year 2 is 31 credit hours. Required courses include BIOL 2721 Human Physiology II, KIN 2063 Biomechanics II, KIN 2072 Introduction to Motor Control and Learning, and RSS 2023 Sociology of Sport, Physical Activity and Leisure. Co-op and practicums

None of the UNB kinesiology pages we checked lists a co-op stream for the BScKin. The program instead offers practicums in career-related work situations. The program page says some students learn from a health care worker, while others help coach a team or volunteer with a community agency.

Practicums are optional. The calendar says they are not required, and you can count up to 6 credit hours of them as electives. If paid work terms matter to you, ask the faculty, and compare programs that list co-op.

Options inside the degree

UNB says it's the only kinesiology program in the Maritimes with an ergonomics option. The Minor in Ergonomics has 18 credit hours of required courses and 6 of electives, and enrolment is limited. Required courses include KIN 3161 Human Factors in Ergonomic Design and KIN 4161 Occupational Biomechanics. Ergonomists work to prevent illness and injury in the workplace.

UNB says the program is nationally accredited by the Canadian Council of University Physical Education and Kinesiology Administrators (CCUPEKA).

Honours is a final year option. You need a cumulative GPA of 3.7 to apply and a faculty supervisor. Then you keep a 3.5 CGPA. The calendar also describes a pre-professional route for students aiming at medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or chiropractic.

How kinesiology compares to other UNB options

The same faculty offers the Bachelor of Recreation and Sport Studies. For Ontario, it asks for English 4U, Grade 11 math (MCF3M or MCR3U), and four electives, also with a 75% minimum. It needs no Grade 12 science.

The calendar says future science teachers should pick the BScKin, and future arts or humanities teachers the BRSS. If you're leaning toward a health career with a clinical license, compare our UNB nursing guide.
