UNB Libraries: Harriet Irving Hours and Study Rooms

UNB has four library locations. In Fredericton, the six-storey Harriet Irving Library is the main one, with the I.U.C. Library for Science and Forestry and the Head Hall Library for Engineering and Computer Science. In Saint John, it's the Hans W. Klohn Commons. From September 8 to November 6, 2026, Harriet Irving is open until midnight Monday to Thursday, and it stays open until 2 a.m. most nights from November 16 to December 20.

Booking a group study room

  • Only registered students can book, for academic work.
  • Group rooms need at least 3 students and hold 5 to 8.
  • Book up to 3 hours at a time, once a day, up to 7 days ahead. Back-to-back bookings aren't allowed.
  • Check in within 10 minutes of your start time by scanning the room's QR code or using the link in your confirmation email, or the booking is cancelled.
  • Most rooms have a 46 to 70 inch screen with wireless sharing and a whiteboard. Ask the Access Services desk for markers.
  • Covered drinks and snacks are allowed in group rooms.

Quiet zones and getting help

UNB's libraries have zones for quiet study together and silent study alone, and hundreds of individual seats. If you want to work with a group and talk, book a group room.

For research help, start with the Ask Us live chat, the subject Research Guides or any service desk. Research Guides name the librarians for each subject, and they meet with students online or in person.
