UNB tuition by campus and the guaranteed scholarship ladder

UNB publishes a separate fee schedule for every program on every campus, each labelled 2026-2027 Tuition & Fees, effective September 1, 2026. The surprise in those schedules is that tuition for the same program is identical across the two campuses — the real campus difference is the mandatory fee bundle at $415.75 per term in Fredericton against $373.75 in Saint John.

UNB publishes a guaranteed scholarship ladder — and it is not rounded

UNB states that every high school student entering with an 80%+ scholarship average is guaranteed a scholarship, provided a scholarship application is submitted by March 1. The published minimum amounts run from $500 to $5,000. The rule most third-party write-ups omit is UNB's own sentence: the scholarship average is not rounded, so a 79.9% average does not become an 80%.

Scholarship averagePublished minimum amount
100%$5,000
95–99.9%$4,000
90–94.9%$2,000
85–89.9%$1,000
80–84.9%$500

The scholarship average is the admission average plus bonus points for enriched Grade 11 and 12 courses passed at 75% or higher: one point for one to three enriched courses, two for four to six, three for seven to nine, and four for ten or more. Those bonus points are often what carries an applicant across the 80% line.

Mandatory fees on top of tuition

Fredericton mandatory fee bundle

$415.75 per term, $831.50 for the year: Technology Fee $35.50, Facilities Improvement $127.50, Wellness Fee $38.25, Facility Access Fee $107.25, Student Union $82.50, Student Union Bursary $5.00, Treaty Partner fee $1.25, CHSR $9.00, and Bruns $9.50.

Saint John mandatory fee bundle

$373.75 per term, $747.50 for the year: Technology Fee $35.50, Facilities Improvement $127.50, Wellness Fee $38.25, Student Success Fee $57.50, Student Rep Council $87.00, CRSJ $14.50, and Baron $13.50. The $42.00 per-term gap against Fredericton is the Facility Access Fee that covers the Currie Center.

Health and dental — both campuses

Student Union Health $235.00 and Student Union Dental $140.00, both charged in the Fall term, for $375.00 a year for full-time students.

First Year Orientation Fee

$80.00 in Fredericton and $50.00 in Saint John. A small figure, but a genuine published campus difference.

International-only charges

International Emergency Health Insurance $200.00 per term, $400.00 a year, which can be opted out of with a valid NB Medicare card, plus International Health Travel Insurance $64.50 once in twelve months for students who opt out. Fredericton adds a Bus Pass for International Students of $180.00 a year; that line does not appear on any Saint John schedule.

Fees that apply on top of tuition

An online fee or web-based course fee of $150.00 per course on both campuses, and a BA – ABA practicum charge of $900.00 per term on the Arts schedules at both campuses.

Payment deadlines and penalties

Fall fees are due Sept 21/26 and winter fees Jan 18/27 on every 2026-2027 schedule. Late payment costs $75.00, overdue accounts carry 12% annual interest calculated daily and applied monthly, and re-registration after cancellation for non-payment costs $125.00.

Application fees and deposits

A non-refundable $65 application processing fee for Canadian applicants and $125 CAD for international applicants. Admission deposits are $100 for most programs, $250.00 for Nursing and the LPN routes, and $300.00 for the Fredericton Bachelor of Education. International students pay a $4,000 tuition and PAL deposit.

Named entrance awards

One entrance scholarship application, due March 1 and open from September 1, reaches the majority of UNB awards for Canadian and international high school applicants. Schulich is the exception — it requires a separate, earlier school nomination.

Guaranteed entrance scholarship

$500 to $5,000 by scholarship average

UNB states that every high school student entering with an 80%+ average is guaranteed a scholarship, subject to submitting a scholarship application. The published minimum amounts are $500 at 80–84.9%, $1,000 at 85–89.9%, $2,000 at 90–94.9%, $4,000 at 95–99.9% and $5,000 at 100%.

Provincial tuition relief, bursary values, and 2027-2028 tuition

No current UNB financial page reviewed for this guide names a New Brunswick tuition bursary, a middle-class tuition relief programme, a free tuition programme, or a timely completion benefit. UNB's financial aid page lists federal and provincial student loans, the Repayment Assistance Plan, and HigherEdPoints, and sends applicants to the provincial student financial services site. Bursary applications sit behind an authenticated intranet, so no bursary amounts or deadlines are public. And no 2027-2028 schedule exists yet — every schedule on both campus index pages is labelled 2026-2027. Verify provincial relief with the Government of New Brunswick, not with a third-party summary.

The campus cost difference is fees, not tuition

Latest available

Tuition for the same program is identical on both campuses: Arts is $9,189.00 domestic and $20,903.00 international at Fredericton and at Saint John, and Engineering is $13,038.00 domestic at both. The difference appears in the mandatory fee bundle, which is $415.75 per term in Fredericton and $373.75 per term in Saint John, so a Fredericton Arts student totals $10,395.50 for the year against $10,311.50 in Saint John.

Choose the campus on program fit and residence cost, not on tuition — the tuition line is the same number.

The published guaranteed entrance scholarship ladder

Confirmed

UNB publishes a table headed High school students with a column labelled Scholarship minimum amount: $5,000 at a 100% scholarship average, $4,000 at 95-99.9%, $2,000 at 90-94.9%, $1,000 at 85-89.9% and $500 at 80-84.9%. UNB separately states that there is a 100% guaranteed scholarship to high school students with an 80+ scholarship average, conditional on submitting a scholarship application, and that every high school student entering with an 80%+ average is guaranteed a scholarship.

These are published minimum amounts, not caps, and the calendar states awards are tenable at the Fredericton and Saint John campuses unless otherwise specified — there is no campus-specific ladder.

The continuing-student ladder that follows it

Confirmed

For years two and beyond UNB publishes a second minimum-amount table keyed to sessional GPA: $7,000 at a 4.3 SGPA, $6,000 at 4.2, $5,000 at 4.1, $4,000 at 4.0, $3,000 at 3.9, $2,000 at 3.8 and $1,000 at 3.7. Qualifying requires applying every year between January 1 and April 15, maintaining a minimum 3.7 SGPA, and completing at least 24 credit hours in the previous May-to-April assessment year. UNB states that every year is a fresh start.

The entrance award does not simply renew — it must be re-earned annually against the SGPA table, and different scales apply to Education, Transfer and Juris Doctor students.

The international scholarships page states over $10.2 million awarded in scholarships last year, an average award of $4,100 in 2021/22, and that 1 in 2 students entering UNB from high school receive a scholarship, while the high-school page says 45% of students entering UNB receive a scholarship.
