The average you need

Guelph lists an estimated cut-off range of 75% to 80%. It says the range is based on admission averages from previous years. The exact cut-off depends on how many people apply, how strong they are and how many spaces there are. An average in the range does not guarantee admission.

Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator. Guelph does not publish an acceptance rate for this program.

No essay, but one optional form

Applied Human Nutrition has no mandatory supplementary application. Guelph only needs your transcripts. Ontario grades come through OUAC, and all grades must arrive by April 22, 2027.

Guelph strongly encourages the optional Student Profile Form. It lets you describe leadership and citizenship activities. Guelph says it may be considered if your average is within a discretionary range of the final cut-off, up to 5%. The deadline is April 1, 2027.

The dietetics route

If you want to become a Registered Dietitian, Guelph offers an Area of Emphasis in Dietetics inside this major. It adds 4.00 required credits and 1.00 credits of restricted electives, for 16.50 required credits in total.

The dietetics emphasis is accredited under Accreditation Canada's EQual program. Finishing it lets you compete for a limited number of dietetic internship or practicum spots after graduation. Those spots are not guaranteed. Graduates who finish an internship can write the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination.

Dietetics courses include MICR*2420 Introduction to Microbiology and Immunity, HTM*3090 Restaurant Operations Management and NUTR*4040 Clinical Nutrition II.

Later years bring BIOM*3200 Biomedical Physiology, NUTR*3090 Clinical Nutrition I and NUTR*4010 Nutritional Assessment. With approval, you can write a thesis in fourth year instead of NUTR*4900.

Third year adds FRHD*3400 Communication and Counselling Skills and NUTR*3070 Nutrition and Physical Activity Interventions. You can also add one minor, and an academic advisor helps you plan it.

Careers after graduation

Guelph says graduates work in health and education careers in government or the private sector. Its list includes public health nutritionist, food policy analyst, nutrition education specialist, food service supervisor and community food worker. Registered Dietitian is on the list too, but it needs more training after the degree.

The calendar says most graduates who finish dietetic internships work in hospitals and other health care settings, such as community health centres and long-term care. Others go on to graduate study in nutrition, public health nutrition, medicine or education.

For parents

This is a direct entry program with no essay or interview. The cut-off range is moderate, but chemistry and biology both matter. The dietetics path adds a second competition after graduation for internship spots.

If your child is set on dietetics, ask about internship placement odds at open house. Guelph's pages say spots are limited and don't publish a placement rate.
