University of Guelph Acceptance Rate: What Official Data Shows

Guelph does not label a figure “acceptance rate” or “admission rate.” What it does publish, in its own Office of Institutional Research and Planning “Fact Book,” is the raw applicant, confirmed-offer, and registration counts behind one — for new Ontario high-school applicants, by year. Every number below is Guelph’s own, with the exact page and date attached; the rate itself is one we calculated from those numbers, clearly marked as ours.

Official program-by-program admission ranges

Guelph does not publish one blended acceptance rate. For Ontario high-school applicants, its admission requirements page publishes a current estimated range for each of the bachelor-degree groupings it uses for direct entry, current as of August 25, 2026. Guelph states these are estimated ranges, not guaranteed cut-offs — actual admission depends on the applicant pool and available space.

Applicants, confirmed offers, and registrations

Guelph’s own Fact Book publishes a table, “New Student Applicants from Ontario High Schools,” every year. Guelph defines “Confirmation” as students who confirmed (accepted) an offer — not the number of offers Guelph made — so the derived columns below understate any true offer or admit rate. They are ratios Stellar Advisers calculated from Guelph’s own published counts, not figures Guelph itself states.

Source: University of Guelph Fact Book 2024–2025, Office of Institutional Research and Planning, page 21, fetched and read live August 25, 2026. This table covers new applicants direct from Ontario high schools only — Guelph’s own Fall 2024 applicant-type breakdown shows this group was 79.9% of all new applicants that year, with other Canadian secondary schools, other semester 1/first-year applicants, and transfer applicants making up the rest. Guelph’s real-time admissions dashboards are marked “restricted” and its detailed Common University Data Ontario (CUDO) report both redirected to a Microsoft sign-on page when checked the same day; the province-wide CUDO portal returned a blocked HTTP 403 response. None of those sources contribute a figure to this page.

What actually determines Guelph admission

The ranges above are estimates, not guaranteed cut-offs. Guelph reviews the required prerequisite courses within the admission average, and offers an optional Student Profile Form that lets applicants add context such as an explained repeated course. Co-op admission normally requires at least an 80% university-level average for consideration, though actual cut-offs usually run higher and depend on demand and available places; applicants not admitted to co-op are normally considered for the regular program instead, with Engineering as the exception because applicants enter directly through the co-op stream.

Guelph also publishes named automatic alternate-offer routes for some competitive choices — co-op to the comparable regular stream except Engineering, Criminal Justice and Public Policy to Justice and Legal Studies, Psychology to Sociology, Animal Biology to Zoology, and Bio-Medical Science or Human Kinetics to Biological Science. The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is a separate case: it is not offered directly from secondary school, so no Guelph bachelor degree is a guaranteed pre-vet route.
