Course requirements from Ontario

Guelph asks Ontario students for the OSSD and at least six 4U or 4M courses. Two are named: English (ENG4U) and Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U). The other four can be any 4U or 4M courses.

Guelph doesn't require a high school programming course. It does recommend computing and data management courses, so ICS4U and MDM4U are good picks if they fit your timetable. Plan your Grade 12 year with our course planner.

The 82 to 87% estimated cut-off range

Guelph lists an estimated cut-off range of 82 to 87% for Computer Science. It says the range comes from past admission averages and is only a point of reference. The real cut-off depends on how many people apply, how strong they are and how many spaces there are. A mark in the range does not guarantee an offer.

Co-op averages often run above the range. If you don't get into co-op, Guelph automatically looks at you for the regular program. Guelph does not publish a Computer Science acceptance rate. Our University of Guelph acceptance rate page explains what it does share. You can check your marks with our Top 6 average calculator.

The Student Profile Form

Computer Science has no required supplementary application, interview or Casper test. Guelph does offer an optional Student Profile Form (SPF). You use it to describe leadership and citizenship activities, and any events outside your control that hurt your marks, such as illness.

Guelph says the SPF may be considered if your May average falls within a discretionary range of the final cut-off, up to 5% below it. Sending it is optional but strongly encouraged. The deadline is April 1, 2027.

How to apply and key dates

Apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC). Guelph's deadline for students in high school is January 15. It says it will keep looking at applications after that date, but asks you to apply early.

Guelph's dates page is labelled for the 2026-27 calendar year. For Canadian high school applicants it lists April 1 for the Student Profile Form, April 15 to change your application and be considered equally for all programs, and June 1 to accept your offer through the OUAC. Ontario high schools send final grades to the OUAC by April 22. You must meet your offer conditions by July 16.

Computer Science co-op

Guelph offers Computer Science with or without co-op. Its program page says CS co-op is a five-year program with five co-op work terms. The honours degree needs 20.00 credits, or 22.50 with co-op. Guelph also reports that 94% of its Computer Science co-op students found work in the Winter 2026 term.

For high school students, you apply for co-op through the OUAC at the same time as the program. Admission to co-op happens with your program offer. Guelph's co-op fee for Fall 2026 to Summer 2027 is $405.00 for each academic and work term, and it is the same for domestic and international students.

Guelph's funding page says co-op students earn $500 to $2,500 a week while working full time on a work term. That pay can help cover the extra year and the co-op fees. Pay varies by job, so treat it as a range, not a promise.

Tuition and costs

Guelph charges BComp students a flat rate per term once they take 2.00 credits or more. For Fall 2026, Winter 2027 and Summer 2027, that is $4,340.37 a term for Ontario students and $5,430.90 for Canadians from outside Ontario. The 2026 international cohort pays $28,003.39 a term. Two terms add up to about $8,680.74 for Ontario students, which is our arithmetic. Compulsory fees are extra.

Guelph's funding page estimates total yearly costs of $25,159 to $35,832 for Ontario residents, with residence, a meal plan and books. It says those estimates use 2025-26 figures.

You pay at the start of each term, not all at once. Guelph also offers payment plans through a financial counsellor. Students from other provinces pay the higher non-Ontario rate, so check which row applies to you.

Scholarships and bursaries

Guelph's entrance scholarships need no application. A student with an admission average of 95.0% or higher gets $2,000, and 90.0 to 94.9% gets $1,000. The Board of Governors' Scholarships are $20,000 with no application.

The President's Scholarships and the Lincoln Alexander Chancellor's Scholarships are each worth $42,500 and need an application. Guelph's pages differ on the date. The funding page says January 23, 2026, and the 2026-27 dates page says January 22. Confirm the current date with Guelph. The Entrance Financial Need Assessment Form for need-based awards is due April 15.

What you take in first year

Guelph's 2026-27 calendar sets out the Computer Science schedule over eight terms. In the second term you take CIS*2500 Intermediate Programming, CIS*2910 Discrete Structures in Computing II and MATH*1160 Linear Algebra I, plus 1.00 more credits.

To graduate you must finish one Area of Emphasis worth 4.00 credits. Guelph's program page lists Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Science and UX. You also need at least 70% in your CIS courses and 60% overall.

The BComp also has a Software Engineering major. To switch majors after first year you need 4.00 credits in a BComp major with at least 70%, and spaces are limited.

For parents

Guelph decides Computer Science offers mainly on six Grade 12 courses, with ENG4U and MCV4U required. The estimated range is 82 to 87%, and co-op is often higher. Your child doesn't need a programming course to apply.

The optional Student Profile Form can help if your child's final average lands just under the cut-off, so it is worth sending. An early offer, before March 1, also secures the residence guarantee.
