Choose the correct entry route
Direct entry
Best fit: High-school applicants and students with fewer than 24 post-secondary credit hours.
Apply to an eligible direct-entry faculty. Or apply to University 1. Meet the requirements for your curriculum. These are published.
University 1
Best fit: Students who want an exploratory first year. Or students who do not yet meet a faculty's direct-entry requirements.
Complete up to 30 credit hours that can count toward a degree. Then transit or apply to a faculty after at least 24 credit hours.
Advanced entry
Best fit: Applicants who have completed 24 or more post-secondary credit hours.
Use the advanced-entry requirements for the faculty you want. High-school direct-entry averages do not replace that review.

UM runs its own application—there is no OUAC step
Current fee schedule · Published for this period
Applicants apply directly through UM's own portal at apply.umanitoba.ca. They do not apply through OUAC (Ontario's university application site). The application fee is $100 for Canadian citizens, permanent residents and refugees. It is $130 for international students. The program's deadline must receive both the form and the fee. UM also requires a non-refundable $2000 CAD tuition deposit. It is paid by credit card. This is for students who need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) for a study permit application.
Some Ontario applicants assume every Canadian university uses OUAC. They miss this: a UM application is separate work. It has its own deadline and its own fee.

Programs and Pathways
University of Manitoba programs and University 1
The university lists more than 100 undergraduate programs. The important application decision is not just the subject. It is whether the faculty permits direct entry. It may expect University 1 or another qualifying year. It may use advanced entry after post-secondary study. University 1 can hold up to 30 credit hours. It is designed so eligible courses count toward a later degree. It does not automatically add a year.

University 1 is 'a direct-entry option with a unique, flexible approach to your first year at UM.' Students take 24 to 30 credit hours, then 'apply or transit to an undergraduate degree program at the University of Manitoba where they will enter year 2.' UM states it does 'not add an extra year of studies to your degree' because 'all of the courses you take in University 1 can become part of your degree program.' Eligibility is limited to applicants who have not attended a post-secondary institution or have completed fewer than 24 credit hours, and meeting minimum requirements 'does not guarantee acceptance into the program.'
University 1 is a real second route into a competitive faculty. You need a 70% minimum. But entry into that faculty in year 2 is a separate decision. It is not an automatic transfer.

Campus life, transit, and the Winnipeg winter
Living on the Fort Garry campus keeps residence, class, recreation and the Bisons inside one 280-hectare footprint about 20 minutes from downtown Winnipeg. This matters in a city where the walk between buildings is a winter decision for months at a time. Every full-time student already pays for the U-Pass. Current city context · Published for this period
UM publishes that 857,300 people live in Winnipeg. It publishes that 100+ ethnic groups are represented in the city. It publishes that the city hosts more than 130 days of festivals each year. These include Festival du Voyageur, the Jazz Festival, the Folk Festival and Folklorama. It publishes that the city has five professional sports teams. These include the Winnipeg Jets and Blue Bombers. It also has more than 1,100 restaurants. It has the Assiniboine Park Zoo's Journey to Churchill exhibit. On winter, UM's own framing is that 'Manitobans eagerly embrace winter.' It points to ice-skating, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing and sledding.
UM does not publish temperature data here. A Caribbean or southern-Ontario applicant should not read 'embrace winter' as a description of the January commute. Budget for genuine winter clothing. Plan a Fort Garry commute that does not depend on long outdoor waits.

A domestic Arts or University 1 year under $7,500 all-in is much lower than similar Ontario flat fees. This is the real reason Ontario students look west.

Current award cycle, March 1 deadline · Latest published information; newer cycle not yet confirmed
UM's General Entrance Scholarships need no separate application. Level 1 (Queen Elizabeth II) is $3,000 at an average greater than or equal to 95%. Level 2 (Guertin Centennial) is $2,000 at 90% or higher. Level 3 (Hogg Centennial) is $1,000 at 85% or higher. Eligibility requires a minimum 85% across five approved courses. It also requires enrolment in 24 or more credit hours in both Fall and Winter. The deadline is March 1. Higher automatic awards exist. The Isabel Auld, Chancellors' and President's Laureate Scholarships are $5,000. They are renewable for three years at a minimum 95% average. President's Scholars receive $1,000 in each of second, third and fourth years. Renewal requires a 4.0+ GPA (grade point average).

Co-op, Research, and Career Outcomes
University of Manitoba co-op programs
University of Manitoba co-op is faculty-specific. It is not one guaranteed high-school entry system. Applicants should compare the eligible majors. They should also compare the in-course application point, academic standing, number of work terms, and current co-op fee. Do this before choosing a degree.
Arts
Eligible majors can add three paid, full-time work terms; the four-year degree normally becomes five years.
Engineering
Students apply after entering an Engineering department and while in good academic standing.
Agricultural and Food Sciences
Admitted undergraduate students can apply for faculty co-op opportunities. Being admitted from high school does not guarantee you a co-op place.
Science
Students apply during second year with 54–90 credit hours completed and at least 30 remaining, then take three or four four-month work terms.
Asper School of Business
BComm students take IDM 1010, need a 2.5 degree GPA and 45–81 credit hours at the first work term, then complete three paid four-month terms.
The 2026–2027 fee table lists co-op work term fees for each faculty. The fees are $897.99 for Arts and $937.31 for Management. They are $796.70 for Agricultural and Food Sciences and $710.80 for Science. They are $462.85 for Engineering and $415.69 for Architecture (Environmental Design). Check the number and timing of charges for your exact program.
Which faculties publish co-op—and which do not
Current programs · Published for this period
UM Career Services lists co-op or internship programs in seven units: Agricultural and Food Sciences, Architecture, Arts, the Price Faculty of Engineering (Co-op/IIP), the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth and Resources, Science, and the Asper School of Business. There is no university-wide co-op eligibility rule or common work-term structure—each faculty publishes its own.
No UM co-op is a high-school admission decision. Every published route requires an in-course application after you enter the faculty. So a co-op offer cannot be secured through the OUAC-style choice ordering Ontario applicants are used to.

About St. Paul's
Entity and application answer
St. Paul's is a University of Manitoba affiliated college
St. Paul's College in Winnipeg is not a separate undergraduate university and does not operate a parallel first-year admissions process. Students apply to a University of Manitoba faculty or program, then join St. Paul's to add a smaller Catholic and Jesuit academic community, facilities, events, leadership, campus ministry, and member award opportunities to their UM experience.
Institutional status
An affiliated Catholic college within the University of Manitoba—not a separate undergraduate university or application destination. The College calls itself the only Catholic higher education institution in Manitoba and is endorsed by the Canadian Province of the Society of Jesus.
Location
70 Dysart Road on the University of Manitoba's Fort Garry campus in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Affiliation
Established in 1926, affiliated with the University of Manitoba on October 27, 1931, under Jesuit direction since 1933, on Fort Garry campus land since a 99-year lease in 1957, and closely integrated under a formal funding and operations agreement since 1970.
Religious identity
Catholic and Jesuit in tradition. The College's official mission says it imposes no creed, and campus ministry states its programs are open to everyone.
Degree authority
Students pursue University of Manitoba degrees. An 18-person College Board of Governors chaired under the Archbishop of Winnipeg as Chancellor runs the College itself, but admission, degree regulations, and tuition come from UM.
Important planning distinction
Apply to the University of Manitoba—not to St. Paul's as a standalone university
Your admission requirements, application deadline, tuition, degree, and any faculty co-op rules come from the University of Manitoba program you choose. Use our University of Manitoba admissions guide for that application route.

St. Paul's programs
Catholic Studies, peace research, and leadership pathways
St. Paul's does not separately offer generic Arts, Science, or Humanities degrees. The student's degree belongs to the University of Manitoba; St. Paul's distinctive academic role is concentrated in Catholic Studies, peace and justice scholarship, and related co-curricular formation.
University of Manitoba Faculty of Arts
Catholic Studies minor
An 18-credit-hour UM minor supported by the Jesuit Centre for Catholic Studies, which teaches roughly 400 students a year. Entry requires C or better in CATH 1190 plus C or better in at least three credit hours from the approved list, which currently runs from CATH 2000 Special Topics through CATH 3900 Catholic Social Teaching.
University of Manitoba and University of Winnipeg
Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) graduate routes
The Arthur V. Mauro Institute for Peace & Justice—launched at the College in 2004 and renamed in fall 2019—collaborates with what UM describes as Canada's first doctoral program in Peace and Conflict Studies and a UM/University of Winnipeg joint master's. Both are graduate routes, not direct-entry undergraduate programs.
St. Paul's College
Ignatian Leadership Program
A no-cost co-curricular route for St. Paul's members: annual workshop attendance, one introduction to Ignatian spirituality (the Spiritual Exercises or CATH 2300 The Jesuits), and four of seven listed offerings. It ends in a signed Recognition of Completion presented at the Baccalaureate Celebration in late April—not a degree or transcript notation.

St. Paul's residence
St. Paul's has no student residence
The official College history is explicit: a larger library and a student residence were part of the original plan but were never constructed. The St. Paul's building includes the Fr. Harold Drake Library, a 200-seat theatre from 1972, Christ the King Chapel, Hanley Hall, the Belltower Café, classrooms, offices, and study space—but it is not a dormitory. The 1964 Jesuit Residence on site houses Jesuits, not students.
Namesake, not ownership
The Arthur V. Mauro Residence is a UM building, not a College one
Arthur V. Mauro is an alumnus of both St. Paul's and the University of Manitoba, and his name is on both the College's Mauro Institute for Peace & Justice and a UM Student Residences building. They are different things. The residence is a UM upper-year building for students who have completed eight months of university or are 19 or older; living there confers no College membership, and College membership confers no priority for it.
On-campus housing
Apply through University of Manitoba Student Residences. First-year options are Pembina Hall, Mary Speechly Hall, and University College Residence, all of which require a meal plan. UM publishes no rate table—run the residence fee calculator for the exact building, room type, and meal plan.
Off-campus housing
Compare rent, transit time to Fort Garry, lease length, utilities, winter commuting, and access to evening College activities—the Belltower Café and most SPCSA events are term-time and on-campus.
St. Paul's College has never had a student residence
Current facilities · Published for this period
The College's own history is explicit: "A larger library and a student residence were part of the original plan, but were never constructed." The Fort Garry buildings comprise classrooms, library, cafeteria, and chapel from 1958, a Science Wing from 1962, an extended cafeteria from 1964, a Jesuit Residence from 1964, and a library with a 200-seat theatre from 1972. The 1964 Jesuit Residence houses Jesuits, not students.
This is the single most common St. Paul's misconception. Unlike St. John's and St. Andrew's colleges on the same campus, St. Paul's offers no housing of any kind.

Its meal plan is optional. UM's Student Residences office is located inside it at 101 Arthur V. Mauro Residence, 120 Dafoe Road.

St. Paul's College scholarships and bursaries
Eligible College members can access a substantial member-award program in addition to University of Manitoba funding. Award rules, deadlines, full-time status, participation expectations, and application requirements vary, so verify each named award before relying on it.
Member eligibility
Scholarships, bursaries, and prizes are for eligible St. Paul's student members. Declare membership in Aurora before relying on any award route, and note that the College charges $7.00 membership plus $12.00 endowment per term on the University of Manitoba's 2026–2027 fee schedule.
Merit scholarships
Members "are automatically considered for most merit scholarships and prizes. For a select few awards, an application is required." Current application deadlines run from August 28, 2026 (extended, for the Lee, Davison, Dowling, and La Vérendrye awards) through October 3 (Giesinger) and October 31 for most named scholarships. No individual award value is published.
Bursaries
Bursaries need full-time College membership for the current session—at least 60 per cent of a full course load or 18 credit hours—plus a GPA of 2.50 in the previous fall/winter session or a C+ average. Need is 50 per cent of the criteria; special circumstances and involvement in social, spiritual, and student events make up the rest. Most close September 30, the Wyrzykowski Family Bursary December 8, and the Winter Bursary February 27.
Published totals
Current official pages use different headline totals: the student-experience page says over $300,000 in scholarships, bursaries, and prizes, while the awards page says over $200,000—broken out as over $110,000 in entrance scholarships for recent high school graduates and over $80,000 annually for bursaries. Treat these as page statements, not a guaranteed personal award pool.
What St. Paul's membership actually costs
2026–2027 · Latest published information; newer cycle not yet confirmed
The University of Manitoba's 2026–2027 undergraduate fee schedule lists two St. Paul's College lines: a membership fee of $7.00 flat per term and an endowment fee of $12.00 flat per term. Together they equal the $19 per term the College's own student-experience page quotes, so the two official pages agree once the endowment line is counted.
This resolves what earlier looked like a conflict between the College page and the fee schedule. The charge is per term while membership is active, not a one-time fee—confirm the amount shown in Aurora for your own term.

Bursaries go to full-time students registered as a St. Paul's College member for the current session, where full-time means registered for at least 60 per cent of a full course load or 18 credit hours. St. Paul's careers and co-op
Co-op and career options come from the University of Manitoba degree
St. Paul's does not run a separate institution-wide co-op system. College leadership, community service, Catholic Studies, and peace and justice research can complement—but do not replace—that degree-specific planning.

Then decide whether St. Paul's community, leadership, spiritual life, and member supports add the fit you want. What the College itself can add to a résumé is specific: NEBAL field schools, the Ignatian Leadership Program's Recognition of Completion, SPCSA council office, and recognition awards such as Paulinian of the Year.

No cost, credit value, term length, or selection criteria for the field school is published on the College page—ask before budgeting for travel.

Questions about St. Paul's
St. Paul's College is an affiliated University of Manitoba community, not a separate undergraduate university. Students apply to UM first, then declare College membership in Aurora. This guide corrects that entity relationship and keeps membership, Catholic Studies, scholarships, student life, the absence of a St. Paul's residence, and degree-specific UM co-op planning on one canonical, official-source-backed page.
What is St. Paul's College at the University of Manitoba?
St. Paul's College is an affiliated Catholic and Jesuit college at 70 Dysart Road on the University of Manitoba's Fort Garry campus in Winnipeg. Established in 1926 and affiliated with UM since October 27, 1931, it calls itself the only Catholic higher education institution in Manitoba and gives UM students a smaller academic, spiritual, cultural, and social community within the larger university.
Is St. Paul's College a separate university?
No. St. Paul's is affiliated with and integrated into the University of Manitoba. Students pursue University of Manitoba programs and degrees; the College should not be compared as a separate undergraduate university.
How do I apply to St. Paul's College Winnipeg?
Apply first to the University of Manitoba faculty or program you want. After becoming a UM student, declare St. Paul's College membership through the Manage My College Membership card in Aurora.
How do I become a St. Paul's College student member?
Sign in at aurora.umanitoba.ca, open View All Cards using the magnifying-glass icon, search Manage My College Membership, open Declare My College Membership, select St. Paul's College, check the Membership Renewal Statement box, click Join College, and keep the confirmation email.
Do I have to be Catholic to join St. Paul's College?
No. The College is Catholic and Jesuit in tradition, but its official mission says it imposes no creed, and campus ministry states its programs are open to everyone. Membership is open to University of Manitoba students in any program of study.
How much is St. Paul's College membership?
$19 per term. The University of Manitoba's 2026–2027 undergraduate fee schedule lists two St. Paul's lines—a $7.00 flat membership fee and a $12.00 flat endowment fee per term—which reconcile exactly with the $19 per term the College's own page quotes. Confirm the charge shown in Aurora for your actual term before budgeting.
