UManitoba Campus Guide: U-Pass, Parking and Campuses

The University of Manitoba (UM) has two main campuses in Winnipeg. Fort Garry is the large main campus about 20 minutes from downtown, and Bannatyne is the downtown health sciences campus beside the Health Sciences Centre. Full-time students taking at least 9 credit hours a term get a U-Pass for unlimited Winnipeg Transit rides, charged in tuition. Student parking for 2026-27 runs from $73 to $140 a month.

Fort Garry and Bannatyne

UM also teaches at smaller sites, such as the William Norrie Centre on Selkirk Avenue for inner-city social work students.

How the U-Pass works

  • You're eligible if you're full-time (at least 9 credit hours in the term) and a member of UMSU, the students' union, or the Graduate Students' Association.
  • Get your student ID at the Registrar's Office first. You must be registered in courses before you can activate the pass.
  • Pick up your Peggo card at the UMSU Service Centre or Answers Bannatyne. Full-time students' passes reload automatically on September 1 and January 1; you get a new 2026-2027 validation sticker in September.
  • Don't load other fares onto the card in fall or winter. In summer (May to August) the card is empty and you can load post-secondary fares.
  • A replacement card costs $15.

Opting out

If you meet an approved reason, such as commuting from outside the city or studying outside Canada for 60 days, you can opt out and get a credit for the U-Pass fee. The fall 2026 opt-out deadline was September 23. The form closes at 4 p.m. on the last day, and late requests aren't accepted.

Walking, cycling or driving to campus, or living in residence, doesn't qualify. The winter 2027 pass starts January 1, 2027.
