Manitoba's universities at a glance

Manitoba's list of public post-secondary institutions includes four universities: Brandon University, the Université de Saint-Boniface, the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg. The same list includes Assiniboine Community College, Red River College Polytechnic, University College of the North and the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology.

Canadian Mennonite University isn't on that public list, but it's a university in Winnipeg and it's in our directory. St. Paul's College is a college inside the University of Manitoba, not a separate university.

Most of these schools are in Winnipeg. Brandon University is in the city of Brandon.

There's no central application

Manitoba doesn't have a shared service like OUAC or ApplyAlberta. Each university runs its own online application, and each charges its own fee.

At the University of Manitoba, you apply at apply.umanitoba.ca. The fee is $100 for Canadian citizens, permanent residents and refugees, and $130 for international students, and it isn't refundable. CMU charges $90 for Canadian students and $150 for international students. Saint-Boniface has you create a MonUSB account and apply online.

Because fees add up, pick your list before you start. Our application fees page compares fees across Canada.

University of Manitoba: deadlines and Ontario requirements

UM's direct-entry page still shows the Fall 2026 cycle. In that cycle, University 1 closed May 1 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents and March 1 for international students. Most other direct-entry programs closed March 1, and Music closed January 15. UM hadn't posted Fall 2027 dates on that page yet, so check it again before you plan around those dates.

For Ontario students, UM's calendar asks for high school graduation with six Grade 12 U or M courses. University 1 also needs a 70% average over ENG4U, a 4U math and two other 4U or 4M courses, with at least 60% in each.

For program detail, see our UM engineering, UM nursing and UM computer science pages, and our UM acceptance rate page.

St. Paul's College at the University of Manitoba

St. Paul's College is a Catholic college within the University of Manitoba. It offers a Catholic Studies Minor and an Ignatian Leadership Program built on Jesuit ideas about education.

You don't apply to St. Paul's separately. Once you're a UM student, you log in to Aurora, find Manage My College Membership and choose St. Paul's. Membership costs $19 a term. Members get access to more than $300,000 in scholarships, events, free lockers, a café and a chapel.

Think of it as a smaller home base inside a big university. Your degree still comes through UM's faculties and programs.

Winnipeg, Brandon and CMU

The University of Winnipeg asks out-of-province high school applicants for Grade 12 English and the graduation requirements of their home province. Its admission policy says the application and all documents must reach the Admissions Office by the deadlines on its Ready to Apply page. If you're late, it can't promise you'll be accepted in time to register.

Brandon University's fall deadline for most undergraduate programs is August 15, and its application and document deadlines are the same date. Brandon charges tuition per course. Most courses are 3 credit hours, and most four-year degrees are 120 credit hours.

Canadian Mennonite University's Fall 2027 deadline is August 25. Ontario students need six 4U or 4M courses with a 70% average, no grade below 60%, and at least 65% in English 4U. Final official transcripts for most programs are due August 31.

Tuition for Canadians and international students

UM's 2026-27 rates are $163.97 per credit hour in Arts for Canadian students and $689.23 for international students. Science is $187.65 for Canadians and $804.00 for international students. UM's pages show one Canadian rate, with no separate rate for students from other provinces.

UM's own all-in estimate, from 2024-25, put a full year of Arts at about $6,900 for Canadians and $24,000 for international students. That figure includes program fees, a Winnipeg Transit U-Pass, a gym pass and a health and dental plan, but not books.

Brandon publishes its tuition tables as files on its tuition page, and they were still the 2025-26 tables when we checked. If you're coming from the Caribbean on a study permit, use the international rates and see our international students guide.

Red River College Polytechnic

Red River College Polytechnic (RRC Polytech) is a public polytechnic in Winnipeg. Most of its programs use General Entry. Applications are accepted all year, and offers go out in the order people applied.

Some programs are competitive instead, including Nursing, Animation and Medical Laboratory Sciences. Those have an annual deadline, and seats go to the highest-ranked applicants. Two teacher programs, Applied Commerce Education and Industrial Arts Education, are joint programs, and you apply to those through the University of Winnipeg.

See our RRC Polytech overview and the full college directory.
