Course requirements
Ontario students need English (ENG4U) and one Grade 12 math: Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Data Management (MDM4U). You also need two of Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), Introduction to Kinesiology (PSK4U) or Physics (SPH4U).
Counting PSK4U as a science is helpful. A student with Biology and Introductory Kinesiology meets the rule without Chemistry or Physics. First year does include a Chemistry course, so SCH4U still makes that course easier. Plan with our course planner.

The average you need
Lakehead asks for a minimum 70% overall final average. It adds that higher averages may be needed when demand for places is greater than supply. The accelerated HBK and BEd needs at least 75%.
Lakehead does not publish a kinesiology admission average or an acceptance rate. Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator. An 80% or higher also earns an automatic scholarship.

No essay or interview
Lakehead's kinesiology page lists no supplementary application, essay, interview or Casper test for high school students. Your grades decide your file.
That makes it simple to apply. Focus on your six best Grade 12 marks and the required courses. Make sure your two sciences and your math are finished by June, since the July round uses final marks.

Co-op option
Lakehead says it is one of few kinesiology programs in Canada with a formal co-op program. You apply before the Christmas break in second year. If accepted, you complete at least four paid work terms of four months each.
The co-op option makes the degree five years instead of four. It is a big draw for students who want paid experience before they graduate, which most kinesiology programs only offer as unpaid placements.

Kinesiology plus teaching
Lakehead pairs the HBK with a Bachelor of Education. You can train for Primary/Junior or Intermediate/Senior teaching. Each runs six years, or five years on an accelerated track.
The accelerated track needs a final average of at least 75%. This route suits students who want to teach physical education or health.

A simple plan for Fall 2027
Apply on OUAC by January 15, 2027. Lakehead's early round in December normally uses Grade 11 marks, so a strong Grade 11 record can bring an offer before the deadline.
Keep your marks up through the year. The automatic scholarship level can change between rounds at the top end. A 95% average earns either $16,000 or free tuition in the March and May rounds, and free tuition in the July round.
If you want co-op, start building a resume in first year. Coaching, volunteering and summer jobs help when you apply before the Christmas break in second year. If teaching interests you, ask about the HBK and BEd before you accept, since the accelerated version needs a 75% average.

Residence
Lakehead guarantees housing for all students coming from high school. Check the residence application steps and rates when you get your offer.
Thunder Bay is far from southern Ontario, so add travel home to your budget. Living on campus in first year makes the move easier and puts you close to the School of Kinesiology in the Sanders Fieldhouse.

For parents
Lakehead combines a 70% minimum, strong automatic scholarships and a paid co-op option. That mix makes it good value for many families. An 80% average already earns $3,000, and year one costs $7,836.58 in tuition and fees.
The main trade-off is distance. Talk with your child about living in Thunder Bay for four or five years, and about whether a five year co-op degree fits your family's plans.
