Courses you need
For Ontario high school students, Lakehead's program page lists English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and one of Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Computer Science (ICS4U) or Data Management (MDM4U). These sit inside the general rule of six Grade 12 U or M courses and the OSSD.
The program page also notes that calculus and computer science are recommended. The Ontario list still lets you pick any one of the three. If you can fit both MCV4U and ICS4U, first-year math and programming will feel easier.

The average you need
Lakehead's general minimum for Ontario high school students is a 70% overall final average. It uses your top six Grade 12 U or M courses. Lakehead adds that higher averages may be needed where demand for places is higher than the supply.
Lakehead does not publish an average of admitted students for computer science. Treat 70% as a floor, not a target.
Check your number with our Top 6 average calculator. An 80% average also starts the automatic entrance scholarship, which is the better target.
No essay or interview
The program page lists no supplementary form, essay, portfolio or interview for computer science. For first-year co-op, the department says applicants are judged on the academic record sent in the normal admission process.
So your marks in ENG4U, MHF4U and your third math or computer science course carry the most weight.

Lakehead says most programs still accept applications after the recommended dates if space is open. Apply through OUAC with code AG. Compare your other schools on our Ontario university deadlines page.
If you want to start a year later, August 31, 2027 is the deadline to ask to defer a Fall 2027 offer.

What first year looks like
First year includes Mathematics 1171 and 1271, Computer Science 1411 and 1431, a full course in English, History or Philosophy, and one more elective. You pick a Business focus or a Science focus when you first register.
The pages differ on the Business focus. The program page lists Business 1511 and Sociology 2755 in first year. The department's Honours BSc page lists Business 1511 and 1512 in first year, and Sociology 2755 in third year. Confirm with the department when you register.
Second year adds Computer Science 2412, 2430, 2453, 2476 and 2477, with Mathematics 2310 and 2255. To continue in the Honours program, you need at least 70% across your computer science courses. The non-honours BSc needs 60%.
The department also offers a Game Programming specialization and a Health Informatics specialization in Thunder Bay.
Lakehead says a full-time faculty member mentors first and second year students on programming. That helps if you have little coding experience before you arrive. Labs include a 240-core high performance Linux cluster and a 3-D virtual reality lab.

The department FAQ says co-op students usually start placements after reaching a 70% average or higher in computer science courses. Lakehead says it makes every reasonable effort to find placements, but a job depends on a resume and interview process.

Entrance scholarships
Lakehead gives automatic entrance scholarships to students coming straight from a Canadian high school. No application is needed. At 80 to 84.9%, the award is $3,000 over four years. At 85 to 89.9%, it is $5,000. At 90 to 94.9%, it is $10,000.
