Course requirements
UBC's requirements tool for Ontario lists three Grade 12 courses for FNH: ENG4U, MHF4U, and one of SBI4U, SCH4U or SPH4U. It also lists two Grade 11 courses: SCH3U and SPH3U. The Grade 11 physics requirement may be waived if you score 86% or higher in senior-level math and in junior-level or senior-level chemistry.
UBC's general rules apply too. You need to graduate from high school, with at least 70% in Grade 11 or Grade 12 English. UBC recommends, but does not require, six Grade 12 courses. It looks at all your academic Grade 11 and 12 grades and pays special attention to courses linked to your degree.
Note that UBC asks for Advanced Functions, not Calculus and Vectors. If you plan to take SCH4U and SBI4U anyway, that also prepares you for first-year chemistry and biology. Plan your timetable with our course planner.
The average you need
UBC's requirements tool returns no recommended grade range for FNH, for either Ontario or British Columbia. UBC does not publish a minimum average or a past admitted average for this degree either.
That means your grades and your personal profile are read together, and there is no number that guarantees an offer. Work out where you stand with our Top 6 average calculator, and read our UBC acceptance rate page for how competitive UBC is overall.

The personal profile, and who may help
High school students applying to almost every UBC degree, FNH included, must write a personal profile. Each answer is a short essay of 500 to 2,100 characters, about 50 to 500 words. UBC readers score it on four criteria: engagement and accomplishment, leadership, substance, and voice. Under voice, UBC asks whether your profile authentically reflects your own words.
You also list two referees. If you're in high school, one must be a school official. Neither can be a friend, family member or paid agent.
UBC is clear about outside help. Its education agent page says an agent cannot write or assist in writing your personal profile or any part of your application. Stellar Advisers follows that rule. We don't write or edit personal profile answers. Our free UBC personal profile guide explains the questions so you can write them yourself.

Decisions for high school applicants come out on a rolling basis from November 2026 to June 2027. Canadian high school students must finish all courses by June 30, 2027. Most students accept their offer by May 1 or June 1, 2027. May 1, 2027 is also the deadline for the first-year housing guarantee.

What you study, and the majors inside FNH
FNH is the degree you apply to. Inside it, the Faculty of Land and Food Systems offers several majors: Dietetics, Food Science, the Food, Nutrition and Health major, Nutritional Sciences, and the Food and Nutritional Sciences double major. UBC's program page calls the double major competitive.
The Food, Nutrition and Health major is the flexible one. After first-year chemistry, biology and math, sample courses include FNH_V 250 Nutrition Concepts and Controversies, FNH_V 351 Vitamins, Minerals and Health, FNH_V 355 International Nutrition, FNH_V 474 Sport Nutrition and FNH_V 477 Nutrition and Disease Prevention. You declare it in Workday once you reach second-year standing, and LFS says this major is not competitive.
Students can add a minor in Arts, Commerce, Science, Fermentations, Sustainable Food Systems or Kinesiology. There is also a five year dual degree with a Bachelor of Education, and a dual degree with a Master of Management.

If you want to be a dietitian
Dietetics is a separate, competitive major inside FNH. LFS says it's the only dietetics program in British Columbia and admits fewer than 40 students each year. It takes five years: two prerequisite years, then three program years. You apply to the major after starting at UBC, with a non-academic resume of experience and specific courses.
Dietetics includes practice education placements in third, fourth and fifth year. Graduates can practise as registered dietitians after applying to a provincial regulator and passing a national registration exam. If dietetics is your goal, treat FNH as the door in, not a guarantee of a Dietetics spot.

Co-op
UBC's program page marks co-op as available for FNH. It runs through UBC Science Co-op, which handles Land and Food Systems. Co-op mixes study terms with paid, supervised work terms.
You don't apply to co-op from high school. You apply in Year 2 or 3. The listed application deadline was Tuesday, September 15, 2026. You need a cumulative average of at least B- (68%) and must be a full-time UBC Vancouver student in good standing. Eligibility doesn't guarantee a place. The sample schedules show four work terms and a degree that stretches to five years.

UBC lists Land and Food Systems tuition for domestic students starting in 2026-27 at $206.69 per credit. A full first-year course load is 32 credits, which UBC lists as $6,614.08 in tuition.
Student fees, books, housing and food are extra. Check the tuition page again when 2027-28 rates come out.

Entrance scholarships
The Presidential Scholars Award is UBC's top entrance award for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It includes a one-time award of about $5,000 and renewable awards of up to $80,000 on the Vancouver campus, paid over four years.
To be considered, finish every part of your application by December 1, including the fee, and answer Yes in the Awards section. UBC rates your first-choice degree using your academic profile and personal profile. Winners are mostly contacted by April 27.

For parents
FNH has no published cutoff, so a strong English mark and a thoughtful profile both count. Your child must write the profile alone. UBC says outside agents cannot help write it.
If your child wants to be a dietitian, plan for five years and a second competitive application. Read our UBC university guide for residence and campus context.
