Ontario applicants need five Grade 12 U or M academic subjects, always including ENG4U as the equivalent of Alberta's English Language Arts 30-1, with the exact five set by the program. The U of A requires a minimum 70% average across those five required subjects, a Grade 12 subject mark of at least 50%, and a Grade 11 subject mark of at least 60% where one is used. Only Grade 12 U/M subjects or equivalent are accepted from Ontario. The 70% figure is a floor: admission is competitive and space in each program is limited.

March 1, 2027 is the published deadline to submit the application for admission for most programs, with all deadlines effective at 11:59 p.m. MT. Applications open October 1, 2026. What the U of A does publish is an admission-average range for each faculty reflecting the past three admission cycles, plus an explicit statement that the competitive average may change through the year based on the number of qualified applicants, the averages presented that year, and program capacity. Use the published ranges, not an unofficial acceptance rate.

It depends entirely on the faculty. The published three-year ranges are: Augustana low 70s; Arts and Native Studies low to mid 70s; Campus Saint-Jean low to mid 70s; Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences low 70s to low 80s; Education Elementary low 70s to low 80s; Business, Engineering, and Kinesiology mid to high 80s; and Nursing and Science mid 80s to low 90s. Arts Criminology and BA Honors sit at mid 80s to low 90s despite the faculty's lower general range.

New applicants can select up to two program choices per application. You are evaluated for the first choice first; if you are eligible you receive that offer and are not evaluated for the second choice, whether or not you accept. You are only assessed for the second choice if you are not eligible for the first. The U of A advises selecting a second choice with a lower historical competitive average range. Current and previous U of A students may list only one program choice per application.

CAD $150 for new applicants to the University of Alberta and CAD $100 for current or previous U of A students. The fee is non-refundable, applications are not processed until it is received, and the U of A states that it does not grant application fee waivers upon request.
