U of A Meal Plans 2026-27: Lister and PLH Dining Halls

If you live in Lister Residence or Peter Lougheed Hall, the seven-day all-access meal plan is part of your contract and you can't opt out. It costs $6,332 for 2026-27 and lets you eat in either dining hall as often as you like. First-year students in Alder or Linden House don't need a plan. Anyone else can buy a voluntary all-access or block plan.

How the residence meal plan works

Tap your ONEcard at the door of the Lister or Peter Lougheed Hall dining hall and help yourself. There's no dollar balance to track: the plan is unlimited entries from move-in to move-out. Nothing is refunded at the end of the year, because nothing is left to refund.

Meals are dine-in only. You can leave with a piece of fruit, a coffee or a cookie, but not a full meal. If class keeps you away at lunch, pre-order a bagged lunch on a weekday and pick it up in the dining hall the next day.

The dining halls stay open on long weekends, reading weeks and the winter break for plan holders. They close overnight and for the spring and summer terms.

Voluntary and block plans for everyone else

Voluntary plans suit students in East Campus residences, Alder and Linden, or off campus. Buy them through the ONEcard website with your CCID. Fall plans went on sale July 1, 2026 and winter plans go on sale December 1, 2026. Bank bill payments aren't accepted.

Each ONEcard tap on a voluntary plan covers one meal period. If you stay from lunch into dinner, you tap out and back in. Block plan swipes can bring in a guest while you're there to tap.

The rules on expiry need care. The plan table gives end dates for all-access plans and says they don't carry over to the next term. Block plan swipes don't expire and carry over, even to the next year. The FAQ says meal plans don't expire without separating the two, so check the dates on the plan you buy.

Allergies, halal and dietary needs

The dining halls aren't allergen-free or peanut-free. Fill in the Student Allergy and Dietary Disclosure Form so staff know your needs, and book a consultation with the Dining Services dietitian. With a life-threatening allergy, ask Dining Services before you buy a voluntary plan; you may be asked to sign a waiver.

Menus rotate every four weeks and are posted on CampusDish. Labels flag vegetarian, vegan, halal, no gluten, no dairy and plant-forward dishes. Lister has a no-gluten pantry locked to students with celiac disease or a gluten restriction. Peter Lougheed Hall prepares no-gluten options on request.

Augustana and Campus Saint-Jean

Augustana runs its own dining hall in Camrose. Hoyme and Ravine residents pay for the seven-day plan in their contract. Off-campus students can buy a commuter lunch plan. The hall serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at set times on weekdays and a later brunch on weekends. Walk-in prices are $11.75 for breakfast, $15.65 for lunch and $18.35 for dinner, plus GST, paid by ONEcard, debit or credit card.

Résidence Saint-Jean has no dining hall of its own. Its residents can buy a voluntary plan, but they use it at Lister or Peter Lougheed Hall on North Campus. On campus, Univers Café in Pavillon McMahon sells food.

Cafés, food courts and ONEcard Cash

Dining Services lists 56 food outlets. HUB Mall has the most, 16 in one building. Kipnes Academy has Skyah's Food Hall on the second floor. The Students' Union leases the outlets in SUB. There are more outlets in CAB, CCIS, ETLC and Cameron Library.

Participating outlets take ONEcard Cash, and you never pay a fee to use it. Add money online, where it's available immediately, or in person at the ONEcard InfoLink Service Centre in HUB Mall.
