Course requirements

Ontario students need Grade 12 English (U or M), a Grade 12 U or M math, Biology (SBI4U) and Chemistry (SCH4U). You add two more Grade 12 U or M courses to make six. Laurentian does not set a minimum grade in each course on its program page.

Any Grade 12 U or M math is accepted on the page. That means Data Management or Advanced Functions both work, and so does a college level M math. Check your plan with our course planner.

The average you need

Laurentian lists a minimum of 75% in your six best Grade 12 U or M courses. It does not publish a competitive average, a mean average or an acceptance rate for nursing. Meeting 75% makes you eligible, but it does not promise a seat.

Nursing seats are limited across Ontario, so aim above the minimum where you can. Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator.

Supplementary application and Casper

The program page lists no essay, interview, supplementary form or Casper test for high school applicants. Laurentian's applicant page names only Architecture and Indigenous Social Work as programs that need extra documents.

All applicants must be able to meet the College of Nurses of Ontario Requisite Skills and Abilities for nursing practice. Before your first placement you also send a criminal background check, a health screening form and your immunization records to the Clinical Placement Coordinator.

Where you study: Sudbury and partner colleges

The English BScN is taught on the main Sudbury campus. Laurentian also runs a collaborative BScN with Northern College in Timmins, and the School of Nursing says that partnership continues after July 1, 2025.

Two Laurentian pages do not agree on the other colleges. The program page still lists Cambrian College and Sault College as partners, with a final Sault class in 2025. The School of Nursing page says the Cambrian and Sault partnerships ended on July 1, 2025, and St. Lawrence ended in 2024. Confirm the site list with Laurentian before you apply.

First year and clinical work

The degree is 124 credits over four years. First year includes Nursing Praxis and Professional Caring I and II, Relational Practice I and II, Professional Growth I, Health and Healing I, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and electives.

Clinical placements begin in the first term. You work in long-term care, acute care and non acute settings. Later years build on nursing practice, health and healing, professional growth and nursing research.

Staying in the program

You need at least a C in each required nursing and science course. You also need an overall average of at least 3.5, which Laurentian lists as 60%.

Plan for costs beyond tuition. Laurentian lists textbooks, lab kits, uniforms and clinical placement costs such as travel, parking and housing.

Seats for Indigenous students and French nursing

Laurentian holds at least 10 seats each year for First Nations, Métis or Inuit students in the BScN. Ask admissions how to apply for one of these seats.

Laurentian also teaches nursing in French. The School of Nursing lists a Baccalauréat en sciences infirmières, plus routes for practical nurses and registered nurses. Graduates of the English BScN can go on to Laurentian's Master of Science in Nursing.

No co-op stream

Laurentian's nursing pages describe clinical placements, not a co-op stream. The hands on part of the degree is built into each year. The program page mentions a co-op work permit, but only as a document international students need for placements.

The BScN is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing and approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Graduates can apply to register with the College of Nurses of Ontario or another college of nurses in Canada.

Tuition for 2026-27

Laurentian's tuition page lists 2026-2027 fees for 30 credits. Nursing is not shown on its own line, so it falls under general programs. Ontario residents pay $6,120.31 in tuition, or $7,249.75 to $7,375.76 with student fees. Out of province students pay $7,023.15, or $8,152.59 to $8,278.60 with fees.

International students in general programs pay $30,363.92 for 30 credits in 2026-2027. Student fees of $1,129.44 to $1,255.45 and health insurance (UHIP) from $948 a year are extra. Laurentian notes some courses carry added fees.

Entrance scholarships

Canadian high school applicants with a 75% to 79% average get a $750 Academic Access Award applied to their tuition account automatically. Several named entrance scholarships need at least 80% in six U or M courses, such as the Carl and Lyle Sanders Scholarships at $2,200 each.

Laurentian also lists Academic Excellence Scholarships worth up to $20,000 over four years for high performing Grade 12 students. The page does not post a full grid by average or the renewal rules, so ask the Student Awards office.

For parents

The 75% minimum is a floor, not a promise. Laurentian does not post how many applicants it admits, so help your child apply to a few other nursing programs too.
