2027 applicant update

University of Guelph admission requirements for 2027

Ontario high school applicants need an Ontario Secondary School Diploma plus six Grade 12 U/M courses. Those six courses must include ENG4U and every prerequisite for the intended program. Guelph uses the top six eligible courses, including required subjects, to calculate the admission average.

Guelph's estimated cut-off ranges are planning references from prior admission cycles, not guaranteed thresholds. The final result depends on the applicant pool, available space, completed prerequisites, and any required supplementary information.

University of Guelph supplementary application requirements

Guelph assesses most programs without a general mandatory supplementary application. Applicants can use the optional Student Profile Form (SPF) to explain activities and leadership.

Applicants can also describe citizenship or circumstances that affected their academic record. Guelph may review the SPF when the May admission average falls within five percentage points of the final cut-off. Submitting it does not guarantee admission.

The Background Information Form (BIF) is mandatory for Landscape Architecture and Turfgrass Management applicants. Guelph's dedicated forms page confirms February 1, 2027 for both BIFs and April 1, 2027 for the SPF and SIF-D.

Some broader Guelph pages show a conflicting March 1 Landscape Architecture date. Plan around February 1. Then verify the form in the applicant portal through the current supplementary-form page. Watch for Guelph to reconcile the official pages.

When does the University of Guelph send out acceptances?

Guelph releases high-school decisions on a rolling basis as new grades arrive. Its current pages conflict on the first offer month and the Landscape Architecture window. Do not plan around one promised opening date.

Guelph must respond to Ontario high-school applicants who met the January deadline by May 28, 2027. The response may be an offer, refusal, or deferral. The applicant portal, official email, and offer letter control.

Looking for a campus-wide percentage? Read the focused University of Guelph acceptance-rate evidence guide for the distinction between applications, offers, confirmations, and registrations. Guelph does not publish the offer count needed to calculate a true university-wide rate.

How Guelph evaluates repeats, alternative courses, and OUAC choices

Applicants often miss these current rules when looking only at a program's estimated range. They do not replace the conditions written in an actual offer.

Repeated courses

For the current admission cycle, Guelph says it uses the highest reported grade when a course is repeated. The optional SPF also lets applicants explain a repeat.

Night, summer, and correspondence courses

Guelph says reported grades from correspondence, night-school, and summer-school courses are treated the same as day-school grades.

OUAC choice ranking

The order of an applicant's OUAC choices does not affect Guelph admission, residence, or scholarship consideration.

Multiple Guelph choices

Guelph reviews every program choice on an application. An admissible applicant may receive more than one offer.

Login after applying

Ontario high-school applicants who apply through OUAC do not receive a U of G login after applying. Applicants outside Ontario or with prior post-secondary study receive login details for document submission.

Conditional offers

Offers remain conditional on the diploma and six required Grade 12 or 4U/M courses. Applicants must also meet the final average in the offer and submit English evidence when requested. Guelph's condition page gives July 16, 2027, while Ontario Universities' Info gives August 14, 2027. The date in the applicant's offer letter controls because the official pages conflict.

Does the University of Guelph offer Nursing?

Guelph's current official undergraduate directory does not list a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or another undergraduate Nursing major. Related health programs include:

  • Applied Human Nutrition
  • Bio-Medical Science
  • Human Kinetics
  • Human Health and Nutritional Sciences
  • One Health

None is an RN-qualifying nursing degree. Applicants searching for Guelph nursing admission requirements should compare accredited nursing programs at institutions that offer one.

Guelph transfer and English requirements

College applicants normally need at least one year in a suitable two- or three-year diploma. Degree-transfer applicants normally need at least 2.0 completed credits. They must also meet the cumulative average and high-school prerequisites for the intended program. Guelph does not admit transfer applicants directly to co-op.

Guelph normally requests English evidence when both of these conditions apply:

  • The applicant's primary language is not English.
  • The applicant has fewer than four years of full-time study in an English-language school system. That study must show satisfactory progress.

Current examples include IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6, CAEL 70, and Duolingo 110. Verify the live test table before booking because accepted tests and score scales can change.

International and transfer applicants can also use the Canadian credential evaluation guide to plan transcripts, translations, and third-party evaluations.

Guelph co-op admission and veterinary medicine

Guelph says co-op consideration normally requires at least 80%. Actual co-op cut-offs often exceed a program's estimated range. Where a regular stream exists, Guelph may consider an applicant for it automatically after denying co-op admission.

The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine is not a direct-from-high-school program. Prospective students first complete at least two years of a full-time undergraduate degree. They must finish the required courses before applying through the separate DVM process.
