For Fall 2027, you can apply to Canadian universities with the Brazilian Certificado de Conclusão do Ensino Médio. U of T, UBC, Queen's and Western also name ENEM or a vestibular result. McGill, York and Alberta list only the school certificate. Engineering adds senior math, chemistry and physics.
Reviewed October 19, 2026. Most university rules below carry no intake year. Dates and fees show the cycle printed on the official page. Anything not yet published for 2027 is marked pending.
Your Brazilian record has three parts
Start by naming each paper you hold. The Certificado de Conclusão do Ensino Médio shows that you finished secondary school. Your histórico escolar is the transcript. It lists every subject and each mark. Canadian pages use slightly different spellings, with or without accents. Those are the same credential.
Western says the certificate must list all your subjects and grades. Memorial asks for the histórico escolar by name. SFU notes that some older records call the stage 2° Grau. Keep the issued wording on every form. Don't rename a subject to sound more like a Canadian course.
The third part is an exam score, when a university asks for one. ENEM is Brazil's national secondary exam. INEP, the federal agency that runs it, says it began in 1998. Since 2009, it has also been a route into Brazilian higher education. It runs over two days. It has four subject areas with 180 objective questions, plus an essay called the redação.
INEP lists the uses it knows about. ENEM scores feed Brazil's Sisu and ProUni systems. Portuguese universities with an INEP agreement also accept them. The INEP page says nothing about Canada. So a Canadian school's use of ENEM is that school's own rule. Read it on the school's page, not on an exam-prep site.
A vestibular is an entrance exam set by a Brazilian university. Some Canadian pages accept a vestibular result in place of ENEM. Others name neither exam.

| University | Official Brazil rule | What still needs your attention |
|---|---|---|
| U of T | Certificado de Conclusao de Ensino Medio and ENEM or vestibular. | No mark is printed. A senior English course is required for every program. |
| UBC | Certificado de Ensino Médio plus ENEM results. | Sealed school envelope. Notarized copies aren't accepted. |
| McGill | Certificado de Ensino Médio. No exam named. | Minimum is a B+ equivalent. Most programs ask for more. |
| York | Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio. | Meeting the minimum isn't a promise of admission. |
| Waterloo | Engineering pages name the Certificado only. | Admission form and online interview for all Engineering. |
| Queen's | Certificado plus ENEM or vestibular results. | Smith Engineering needs chemistry, math and physics in the final year. |
| Western | Full-subject certificate plus ENEM or vestibular. | Notarized English translation. Final records go through WES. |
| uOttawa | Certificado with a 7.0 minimum average. | Its eligibility tool also says vestibular. Ask which result to send. |
| Alberta | Certificado and transcript of marks. | Certified English translation for Portuguese records. |
| SFU | Certificado de Ensino Médio with interim senior marks. | 60% in senior math, read on a 50% pass scale. |
| Guelph | Certificado at 7.5 or higher, plus vestibular or ENEM. | The 7.5 is a floor. Check your program's own subjects. |
| Memorial | 7 of 10, or 70 of 100, in five required subject areas. | English test required. Certified histórico by post or courier; its document section also lists email. |
The table splits into two groups. U of T, UBC, Queen's, Western and Guelph tie an exam result to the certificate. McGill, York, Alberta, SFU and Memorial name the school record alone. That difference matters when you plan your senior year.
Waterloo needs care. Its current Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering pages for Brazil list only the Certificado under general requirements. Use the page that's live when you apply. If a school counsellor or older notes say Waterloo wants ENEM, email Waterloo and keep its written reply.
uOttawa also needs a direct question. Its written minimum for high-school applicants names the certificate and a 7.0 average. Its eligibility tool labels the Brazilian route "Cert. Concl. de Ensino Medio/Vestibular". The page doesn't say whether a vestibular score is required. Ask the Brazil recruitment contact listed on that page.
ENEM timing for a Fall 2027 applicant
INEP's 2026 schedule puts the ENEM sittings on November 8 and November 15, 2026. The page says individual results will be posted on the participant site on a date still to be announced. You'll need your login to see them. INEP doesn't publish results through other channels.
That timing can collide with Canadian dates. UBC wants International Scholars documents by January 31, 2027. Waterloo's Engineering documents are due February 1, 2027. Ask each university whether it will wait for your ENEM 2026 result. Ask too whether an earlier result would count.
Be careful with an early sitting. INEP lets students who aren't yet finishing secondary school sit ENEM as "treineiros". Those results serve only as self-assessment. None of the Canadian pages we read explains how it treats a treineiro score. Get a written answer before you send one.
Grades on a 10-point scale
Several Canadian pages quote Brazilian marks out of 10. They don't share one conversion. uOttawa lists a 7.0 minimum average and warns that some programs ask for more. Guelph lists 7.5. Memorial wants 7 of 10, or 70 of 100, across its required subjects, with a pass in each one.
McGill describes its floor as the equivalent of a B+ average. It reviews yearly averages and the prerequisite results from your last two years. SFU uses a percentage for its quantitative rule. It needs 60% in senior math, read on a 50% pass scale. Queen's asks Commerce applicants for at least 80% or the equivalent in final-year math.
UBC prints no number for Brazil. It says the grades you need differ by degree and change from year to year. It reviews your Ensino Médio record and your standardized test results together. In its Science degree, junior physics can be waived if you have 10 in senior math and senior chemistry.
These figures are minimums or special rules. They aren't the marks that win offers in busy programs. Don't divide your average by 10 and call it a Canadian percentage. Send the marks as your school issued them. Let each university apply its own scale.
Engineering and science subjects
Canadian pages ask for senior-level work in named subjects. Check that your final years actually cover them. A high overall average won't replace a missing one.
Waterloo's Brazil pages for Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering ask for senior math, including pre-calculus algebra and calculus. They also ask for senior physics, chemistry and English. Students are selected individually. Every Engineering applicant completes the Admission Information Form and an online interview. Waterloo may ask for detailed course outlines.
Queen's Smith Engineering asks for chemistry, math and physics in the final school year. UBC Applied Science asks for senior pre-calculus math, chemistry and physics. UBC may still review a strong student missing one science case by case. McGill Engineering asks for pre-calculus math, chemistry and physics at senior level.
Western Engineering asks for chemistry, physics and math, and you must take the Casper test. Western says results can take three weeks to arrive, and no offer is made without them. SFU's Engineering Science, Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Sustainable Energy Engineering list senior math, chemistry and physics.
U of T adds one more rule for every program. You need a senior English course, and other prerequisites must be at senior level. Compare the wider subject rules in the Engineering requirements guide. Then read the school pages for Waterloo Engineering, Queen's Engineering and UBC Engineering.
Portuguese records and translations
Translation rules differ by school. Western wants everything in English. If a transcript is in Portuguese, you add a notarized literal English translation. Your school can translate it, or you can use a certified translator. After you accept an offer, your school sends final records straight to WES Canada. Western asks for the "WES-Basic Document-by-Document ICAP" report.
Memorial works in two stages. When you apply, it takes a translated interim transcript and the Portuguese original, official or unofficial. After your exams, it wants a certified translation of the histórico escolar. A certified copy of the original goes with it. That line names post or courier. Memorial's general document section also lists mail, courier and a documents email address, so ask admissions whether email works for the certified copy. The page's general list also gives a documents email, admiss.docs@mun.ca, next to the mail and courier addresses. Ask Memorial before you email certified copies.
Alberta needs an official English translation by a certified translator for any record not issued in English or French. UBC has its own copy rule. Certificates must be official and arrive in a sealed school envelope. A principal, head or counsellor can certify a photocopy. UBC won't accept notarized copies.
uOttawa uses its uoZone portal. Current students upload transcripts for the last three years. They add their first-term results from the final year. Don't pay for an outside report unless a school asks for one. The credential-evaluation guide explains when a report like WES is needed.
English tests for Brazilian applicants
Brazil isn't on UBC's list of countries where four years of English study meet its standard. U of T asks for proof if English wasn't the first language you learned at home. Its school exemption needs four years in an English school in a country where English is dominant. A bilingual school in Brazil doesn't meet that test as written.
Waterloo's rule reads differently. It can exempt you if your four most recent years were in an entirely English school system, in Canada or elsewhere. Your school must send official transcripts showing the language of teaching or a mailed principal's letter. Waterloo won't accept emailed letters. ESL years don't count.
Memorial requires a standardized English test. Western asks for proof if English isn't your first language. uOttawa teaches in English and French, so you show ability in one of them with a recognized test. U of T currently asks for IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0. Its Duolingo minimum is 120 overall and 120 in Production. Compare other scores in the English test guide.
Deadlines published for 2027 entry
Ontario universities use OUAC, the Ontario Universities' Application Centre. U of T's 2027 table gives Applied Science and Engineering a January 15 deadline. It recommends applying by November 7. Western's equal-consideration OUAC deadline is January 15, 2027. Waterloo Engineering closes January 15, 2027, with documents due February 1.
Queen's takes most first-year applications until March 1, 2027. Commerce, Health Sciences and Nursing close February 1. Its final document date, including English scores, is March 31, 2027. UBC's deadline for September 2027 is January 15, 2027. SFU's Fall 2027 deadline is January 31, 2027, with documents due February 28.
McGill's page lists January 15 for applications and March 1 for documents, without a year. Its major entrance scholarship form is due January 21. Check each school's dates on U of T deadlines, UBC deadlines and Waterloo deadlines.
Scholarships: what's open and what's passed
UBC International Scholars is open for the September 2027 intake. It's for students with strong grades, community leadership and real financial need. Apply to UBC first. Your admission and the award application are both due November 15, 2026. Documents and the English standard are due January 31, 2027.
You need a school nominator and a different teacher referee. A school may nominate up to two students for UBC Vancouver and one for UBC Okanagan. For this intake, you must have finished school no earlier than June 2026. Nursing and several other degrees can't receive these awards. If you apply here, UBC won't consider you for its merit awards.
UBC's merit page lists IMES awards of CAN$10,000 to CAN$25,000 a year for 2026/2027. The figure for Fall 2027 is pending. Its OIS range still carries a 2025/2026 label. You're considered for both by applying to UBC on time.
U of T's Pearson award covers tuition, books, incidental fees and full residence support for four years. The school nomination deadline was October 9, 2026. The admission deadline was October 16. Both have passed. November 6 is only for students who met those earlier steps.
Queen's Major Admission Award form is due December 8, 2026. Queen's suggests applying through OUAC by November 20 so you can reach the form. SFU's Undergraduate Scholars Entrance Scholarship closes December 15, 2026 for Fall 2027. Confirm that you're eligible before you start. The international scholarships guide collects other awards.
Tuition and costs, with the year shown
Waterloo's international estimate for Engineering and Software Engineering is CAN$75,000 for two terms. That covers tuition and incidental fees. Books and supplies add CAN$1,500. Waterloo bases these estimates on September 2026 starts. A Fall 2027 figure isn't published on the page yet, so treat it as pending.
Carleton's viewbook sets its engineering group at CAN$55,000 a year. That rate is frozen for 2027/2028 and 2028/2029. It adds an estimate of CAN$2,500 in other fees. uOttawa says its 2026-2027 international undergraduate tuition matches 2025-2026. For students who began in Fall 2022 or later, yearly increases are capped at 7% while you study full time and progress normally.
Alberta asks most new applicants for a CAN$5,000 tuition deposit to accept an offer. That deposit is also needed before Alberta issues your PAL. Compare full costs on Waterloo tuition, Carleton tuition and uOttawa tuition.
Study permit, funds and PAL
For applications from September 1, 2026, IRCC asks one student outside Quebec to show CAN$23,448 for living costs. The earlier figure was CAN$22,895. Tuition and travel to and from Canada come on top. You must show the money without working in Canada. Bank statements used as proof should cover the past six months. Scholarship proof can also count.
McGill is in Quebec. Quebec sets its own funds rule through its immigration ministry. Quebec also uses a Quebec Acceptance Certificate, the CAQ, where other provinces use a PAL or TAL. IRCC's checklist requires your letter of acceptance, identity documents and proof of funds in every case. A letter of explanation is recommended.
Bachelor's students generally need a provincial or territorial attestation letter, called a PAL or TAL. Your university tells you how to get it. IRCC's page says 2026 letters are valid until December 31, 2026. It gives no rules for 2027 yet, so 2027 validity is pending. Check that page again before you apply for a permit.
