Published international tuition through 2028-29

The freeze covers tuition, while mandatory fees remain outside it.

Carleton explicitly names 2026-27, 2027-28 and 2028-29. The approximately $2,500 miscellaneous estimate varies by program and isn't a frozen annual bill.

Start with the assessed total for your degree

Carleton's detailed tables quote tuition with compulsory miscellaneous fees. The Ontario Arts first-year total is $7,624.02 for Fall and Winter together. It isn't a tuition-only price or a single-term bill. The same table has separate first-year rows for Commerce and Computer Science. Check the degree name before comparing your offers, even if two programs share many first-year courses.

The Ontario and other Canadian schedules have different prices. For Arts, the other Canadian amount is $9,259.26. Use the fee status on your account rather than assuming an Ottawa address puts you in the Ontario column. Ask Student Accounts about a disputed assessment. The university says it can review an estimate and change the charges after the original due date.

Your Carleton university overview explains the wider choices. The Sprott Commerce guide and Carleton Engineering guide cover entry rules. This page compares the costs of those choices. A fee row for an older degree isn't proof that the same degree accepts new first-year applications.

Two course-load thresholds affect different charges

Full-fee undergraduate tuition starts at 2.0 billing hours per term. A billing hour normally matches a course's academic credit value, with stated exceptions. Once you're at that threshold, more courses don't add tuition under the published plateau rule. Below it, the per-credit schedule applies. Don't multiply a per-credit row by a full load when the flat-fee rule governs your registration.

Full-time OSAP has a different normal threshold: 1.5 credits per term. OSAP means the Ontario Student Assistance Program. A student can meet its full-time course-load test without reaching Carleton's tuition plateau. Registered disability rules have a lower aid threshold. Tell Awards and Financial Aid if your fall and winter loads differ so your aid application reflects the actual registration.

From Fall 2026, automatic undergraduate health and dental enrolment also starts at 1.5 credits. Dropping from 2.0 to 1.5 can therefore change tuition without removing that plan. Dropping from 2.5 to 2.0 doesn't reduce plateau tuition. These rules matter before a course change, when the academic choice can also alter your aid or keep a compulsory charge on the account.

International tuition is frozen, but the whole bill isn't

Carleton names three academic years in its international freeze: 2026-27, 2027-28 and 2028-29. Arts and Science belong to the $39,000 tuition group. Commerce is in the $45,000 group. Engineering and Computer Science use $55,000. These are published tuition amounts for the named years, rather than a projected increase. The freeze doesn't cover every charge you pay to attend.

Admissions gives miscellaneous fees as about $2,500 for most degree groups. That estimate includes basic health cover and transit, and it can change. The detailed 2026-27 schedule gives the actual published comparison used here. International Arts totals $41,383.68, while Commerce totals $47,608.68. Use the exact degree's assessed total when comparing current-year offers rather than treating the rounded estimate as an invoice.

There is a source difference within these figures. The international schedule prints a $2,373.11 miscellaneous subtotal for ordinary programs, and admissions prints $39,000 Arts tuition. Those components don't reconcile with the published first-year Arts total. Ask Student Accounts to explain the assessment. We retain the school's complete total and don't invent a charge to make the columns agree.

Student fees already cover transit and the listed health plans

Compulsory fees support services such as athletics and health care. Carleton says most campus fees aren't based on use. Staying away from the gym doesn't create a refund. Program charges differ too. Sprott has its own society and levy lines; Science has a society fee. The full totals above already contain the applicable published slate, so don't add the whole fee list again.

The 2026-27 schedule lists the CUSA health and dental charge at $256.74, assessed in fall for the qualifying load. CUSA is the undergraduate student association. This extended coverage is different from UHIP, the University Health Insurance Plan for international students. The international schedule's $948 UHIP is already in its compulsory fees. Adding another $948 would overstate that fees-inclusive total.

Opt-out eligibility and its deadline need a separate check with the plan administrator. We haven't deducted a possible refund from the worked example. The transit pass is also inside the full-fee comparison. Carleton warns that some non-refundable health or U-Pass charges can remain even after a timely course withdrawal. Confirm the charges that survive before treating an account credit as your expected refund.

Room prices buy an eight-month package

The residence table prices September to April. Its $14,010.36 traditional double includes All Access meals, room utilities and internet. Residence association fees and tenant insurance are included too. The meal plan gives unlimited dining-hall entry and $200 in Dining Dollars for the academic year. Those dollars are part of the package, rather than an extra amount to add to the total.

Rideau House's double package costs $14,634.36 in 2026-27. A traditional single with All Access costs $15,830.36. A published price doesn't promise that room will be available to you. The Fall 2027 first-year guarantee names a traditional double. Our Carleton residence guide owns the room comparison and application process; use your actual assignment to update the budget.

Carleton's domestic cost overview quotes off-campus housing over one year, while its on-campus example covers eight months. The off-campus range also leaves additional costs to the rental agreement. Putting those two headline prices beside each other can hide four months of rent or different food costs. Compare the same time period and check the lease before deciding which housing choice costs less.

The first-year example leaves personal costs visible

Our calculation for an Ontario Arts entrant is $7,624.02 academic fees + $14,010.36 residence and meals = $21,634.38. It uses the first-year row and keeps the full charges. It doesn't add a separate U-Pass, extended health plan or food bill. The $700 residence advance is part of the housing payment, so it isn't added to the annual package a second time.

Books, course supplies and travel sit outside that subtotal. Carleton's international planning page estimates $1,400 for books and supplies. It also prints a separate personal-spending estimate. Those are planning allowances, not fixed charges for every Arts student. Check your own reading lists and equipment needs. This example leaves those personal choices unpriced instead of claiming that the subtotal pays every cost of first year.

Enter your own figures in the university cost calculator. There isn't a Carleton preset to confirm your account. Keep the tuition-and-fees total together if you use this table, and keep the meal amount inside the residence line. Deduct only funding that you've actually received, after checking when it becomes available for payment.

Winter fees can be due before the winter break

The current payment schedule makes fall fees due August 25 and winter fees due November 25. The dated 2026-27 calendar confirms those dates, including November 25, 2026 for Winter 2027. Don't wait until January just because winter classes start then. Your student account's Calculate Amount to Pay shows the charges and any granted deferral. Check it again after changing courses.

The listed late charge for a full-fee undergraduate is $133.75 per term in 2026-27. Interest is separate. Late registration can also trigger a charge, even when you register after the regular payment date. The checked schedule requires the full term balance and describes loan deferrals. It doesn't list an undergraduate monthly payment plan. Ask Student Accounts before relying on another arrangement.

Eligible OSAP recipients can receive a payment deferral to September 17, 2026 or January 14, 2027. Your entitlement must be available by the regular payment deadline, and the account must show the deferral. Other Canadian loan recipients must request one through Awards before the due date. International government-loan recipients follow a separate request route with their disbursement schedule and loan amount.

An advance payment doesn't remove cancellation conditions

Housing calls the $700 Residence Advance Payment, or RAP, your first payment toward residence fees. Its detailed guaranteed-room application instructions call it non-refundable for 2026-27. That payment goes through the Housing Portal. Paying it to the academic student account doesn't complete the residence acceptance in those instructions. Follow the payment route attached to your own housing offer.

For Fall 2027, both checked admissions pages now say June 7, 2027 for accepting residence and paying RAP. The guarantee requires an admission offer by May 31, 2027. The detailed housing application still describes 2026-27. We don't treat its old portal-opening date or RAP amount as a newly confirmed 2027-28 term. Check the new contract before making an advance you can't recover.

International admissions also describes a $2,000 tuition deposit when explaining prepayment. It is counted against the tuition in that example. It isn't the residence RAP. Your offer sets the deposit condition, and the applicable policy sets any refund. Paying an admission deposit doesn't reserve housing. Keep the two payment records apart so you can see which condition each one satisfies.

A course drop may change no tuition at all

For full-fall courses, the 2026-27 financial adjustment boundary is September 30. For full-winter courses, it is January 31, 2027. Short early and late courses have their own boundaries. Use the row for your course's teaching period. Academic withdrawal and financial withdrawal answer different questions. A permitted academic drop doesn't itself promise that the university will reverse the fees.

Even before the financial boundary, moving from 2.5 to 2.0 billing hours doesn't reduce tuition. You remain on the flat-fee plateau. A reduction begins only when you move below the threshold under the published policy. There can still be non-refundable charges. The refund page labels its winter block Winter 2026; the separate Fall 2026/Winter 2027 calendar supplies the dated winter evidence used here.

A fee adjustment must first cover the other amounts you owe. Carleton doesn't send the resulting credit automatically. You request a refund through Carleton Central, and the university can hold it until the session ends. International wire or currency payments return to the original sender's account. Changing your classes is therefore only one step in finding out whether money will actually return to you.

Awards and OSAP need their own payment plan

The 2027-28 renewable entrance bands for four-year honours degrees start at an 85% admission average. They offer $1,000 a year at 85% to 89.9%, $2,000 at 90% to 94.9%, and $3,000 at 95% to 100%. Renewal needs an annual grade point average of 10.0, or A- standing. Compressed Nursing has a separate pattern that includes summer study.

Canadian high-school and CEGEP entrants need a complete admission application and required grades by June 15 for consideration under the stated rules. International direct-from-high-school students paying international fees can also be considered for the September 2027 Welcome Award. It is $2,000 to $5,000 in first year, in addition to an entrance scholarship. Keep an award's annual payment separate from its advertised maximum over several years.

The Carleton financial-aid guide owns the wider awards and bursary process. The confirmed Prestige date is March 1, 2027; the Leadership Bursary date is May 1 and Entrance Bursary date is June 30. The checked full-time OSAP instructions still recommend June 30, 2026. They don't confirm an early Fall 2027 application target or your exact release day. Our OSAP guide explains the general steps.

The remaining Fall 2027 cost checks

The checked schedules don't publish 2027-28 domestic tuition, detailed compulsory fees, insurance premiums or room-and-meal prices. The new student-account payment and financial withdrawal calendar also remains unconfirmed. Recheck February 1, 2027, then again before accepting housing or paying a non-refundable amount. The international tuition freeze is already published, so it stays separate from these gaps.

New-cycle RAP pricing, refund terms and health-plan opt-out dates also need their own check. A published June 7 residence deadline doesn't confirm the cost of the next room contract. The current detailed application page is still 2026-27. Use the Ontario university application-deadlines guide for the wider admission calendar while following Carleton's own account dates for payments.
