Start with one term and the exact program

uOttawa's fee tables work by term. The university describes a normal bachelor's academic year as two terms, September to April. That's why a term amount and a first-year amount can both be correct. Label the term price before you compare it with a school that publishes one eight-month total. Summer study needs its own line.

The Arts and Science selectors each give $3,104.96 per term for a full-time Ontario first-year student in 2026-27. The published general example uses that same tuition. Its $7,579.43 academic subtotal also includes common student fees. Tuition alone is $3,104.96 + $3,104.96 = $6,209.92, our calculation. Those figures describe different scopes. The extra fees aren't another tuition charge or a residence payment.

Check the exact degree on your offer before choosing a fee row. Commerce, Computer Science and Engineering don't share one tuition rate. A course taught by another faculty doesn't by itself make that faculty's full-time degree price yours. Our uOttawa program guide explains the degree choices. The bill uses your own program and enrolment.

Ontario residency and study progress affect the fee row

Domestic tuition has two bands at uOttawa: Ontario and outside Ontario. International tuition is a third band. These are fee categories, not places where you plan to rent a room. If your family lives outside Ontario, don't choose the Ontario column just because you'll move to Ottawa. Read the university's residency criteria and any exemption that applies to you.

The selector also asks for faculty, discipline and billing method. A full-time flat rate can't be divided by your course count to find a reliable part-time price. Part-time charges use their own unit rate. Check the completed-unit bracket as well. A first-year row and an upper-year row can differ even when the degree name is the same.

The Ontario policy lists a general 2% tuition increase for 2026-27. It names 7.5% for Telfer and 6.63% for selected dual fast-track degrees in Engineering and Science. Those are published changes for that year. They aren't an instruction to add the same percentage to next year's budget. A slower move through tuition brackets can also change what you're charged.

Compulsory fees aren't the same as course supplies

Ancillary fees fund services beyond your classes. uOttawa lists health services, sports, the University Centre and student union charges. Full-time transit fees have specific exemptions. Health-services fees support access to campus care; they don't replace an insurance policy. Our table keeps each published example line visible so you can see which part of a cost comes from which charge.

The common-fee example isn't the full list for every degree. Faculty student associations vary. Telfer has a mandatory Career Centre fee. Engineering has a mandatory Centre for Entrepreneurship and Engineering Design charge each term. Course-related incidental fees and administrative fees can add more. Check those items after your course choice is settled instead of treating a general example as a guaranteed invoice.

An exemption needs the university's process. Having little time to use a gym or living close to campus doesn't erase a required fee. Also keep ancillary fees distinct from books and supplies that you buy yourself. The worked example uses published common charges only. It leaves variable costs outside the total and says so next to the amount.

The payment summary says annual U-Pass fees are payable with fall charges. The 2026-27 example instead puts $240.67 in each term column. Those billing descriptions differ. We retain the example's published amounts and label their scope. Check your own account for the actual payment split instead of treating the example as a billing calendar.

Health and dental sit beside basic international cover

The University of Ottawa Students' Union, called UOSU, manages supplemental health and dental cover for undergraduates. It's added automatically for full-time enrolment. The university's 2026-27 first-year example lists $104.15 in each of its fall and winter columns. Treat those as the example's amounts. Your assessed plan charge and any approved opt-out belong on your actual account.

University Health Insurance Plan, or UHIP, is basic cover for international and exchange students and eligible dependants. It pays for services such as doctor and hospital visits. Supplemental insurance covers other items, such as prescriptions and dental care. An international budget needs both categories. An extended-health opt-out doesn't mean you can drop mandatory basic cover without meeting a UHIP exemption.

For a September 2026 start, the published UHIP member premium is $948 for September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027. A January 2027 start costs $632 through August; a May start costs $316. These include the stated tax. The $316 in each term of the university's academic example isn't a full annual premium. Don't use two of those example lines as twelve-month cover.

The academic calendar lists September 9 to October 9, 2026 for the regular undergraduate health and dental opt-out period. That window has passed. Don't shift it into Fall 2027 or assume a winter start has the same process. Read the plan's current instructions and keep the existing charge in your budget until an approved change is reflected in your account.

Ottawa has posted next year's housing prices already

The housing page now has separate 2027-28 and 2026-27 tabs. For 2027-28, a traditional double has a $9,463 room charge and a $7,400 mandatory five-day food plan. The university prints a $16,863 package. A traditional single package is $19,355. These are published future housing prices. We keep them even though next year's tuition remains pending.

Six residences require the five-day plan: LeBlanc, Marchand, Stanton, Thompson, Henderson and 90 University. The seven-day 2027-28 plan costs $8,175. A five-day plan gives Monday-to-Friday access, so consider your weekend food needs. Friel and Rideau have optional food plans. Apartments also have optional plans, but their twelve-month room contracts cover a longer period than the eight-month first-year examples.

Use our uOttawa residence fees and rooms guide to compare buildings. Room charges already include the housing page's listed resident insurance. The $950 reservation deposit is credited to housing fees. Adding it again to a room package would count the same payment twice. It still matters for the cash you need when you reserve.

What our worked first-year example leaves to you

Our example uses the older 2026-27 room and food prices to match the 2026-27 tuition evidence. It pairs the published Ontario academic example with a traditional double and the required five-day plan. The common ancillary lines add to $1,369.51 for fall and winter, our calculation. Health and dental are already inside that amount, so we don't add them again.

The result is $6,209.92 + $1,369.51 + $9,278 + $7,125 = $23,982.43, our calculation. It isn't a full personal budget. Faculty association and course fees aren't assigned a made-up amount. Books, clothing and travel are outside it too. Add your own sourced or actual costs in the university cost calculator. Keep them separate from this published-figure example.

We haven't deducted a possible scholarship. An award with conditions is useful once you have an eligible offer and know its payment timing. A headline four-year scholarship value also isn't money for one first-year bill. Don't combine this academic example with the 2027-28 housing table and call the result a confirmed Fall 2027 cost. The tuition year still needs a replacement.

Payment is a term step, separate from accepting an offer

For the general 2026-27 calendar, tuition is due without late fees by October 2, 2026 for fall and January 29, 2027 for winter. Residence has the same listed instalment dates for those terms. These aren't application closing dates. Use our Ontario university application deadlines guide for the admission stage, then read the dates in your own offer.

The current standard international undergraduate admission deposit is $2,000, with program exceptions. Accept your offer before paying it. The deadline and exact amount belong to the offer. The deposit applies to tuition after enrolment; the $950 housing deposit applies to residence. Neither is an extra copy of the final charge. The admission deposit's refund exception requires a refused study permit and the source's conditions.

uOttawa's student-account page explains the payment routes and processing times. Confirm that money reaches the account by the deadline. A parent's payment and a student's course enrolment are separate actions. Save the account confirmation after the payment posts. The checked academic calendar doesn't publish Fall 2027 or Winter 2028 payment dates, so we haven't moved the current dates ahead by a year.

Promise to Pay charges interest, and aid doesn't extend the due date

The published Fall 2026 Promise to Pay needed 50% of the term balance and all earlier debt paid by October 2, 2026. The remaining balance was split into equal payments due November 2 and December 2, 2026. That initial deadline has passed. You also had to enrol in the plan after the first payment posted. It wasn't an automatic extension for every unpaid account.

Interest applies to the outstanding balance when you join. The official page names National Bank of Canada prime in its late-payment section and Bank of Canada prime in the plan notice, adding 9% in both. That benchmark wording conflicts. Ask Student Accounts to confirm the actual rate before joining a later plan. We haven't chosen one benchmark or treated this as an interest-free option.

OSAP means Ontario Student Assistance Program. Full-time funding normally pays your university account first; the remaining funds go to your bank. You must pay any fee shortfall by the due date. The payment page says there's no aid grace period, even when a loan or grant is delayed. Matching your course load with the OSAP application avoids delays in the university's enrolment confirmation.

uOttawa recommends applying early because OSAP processing can take six to eight weeks. The full-time application deadline is 60 days before the study period ends; supporting documents are due 40 days before. For aid, that end is the last exam day, not the general term end. Co-op students apply for each term from their first work term. These rules don't give an exact Fall 2027 release date.

Dropping a class can protect a grade without lowering tuition

The financial-credit deadline is October 2, 2026 for fall and January 29, 2027 for winter. In the general undergraduate calendar, a withdrawal receives a financial credit only if it changes you from full-time to part-time status, including withdrawal from all courses. A drop that leaves you full time can leave the flat tuition charge in place. Administrative charges can remain too.

The later academic withdrawal dates are November 20, 2026 and April 2, 2027. They let you leave a course without the financial credit. Simply stopping attendance isn't the same as withdrawing; the university warns that this can lead to a failing grade. Short courses and certain programs can have their own dates in My Class Schedule. Check that course before making the change.

Housing cancellation follows a different contract. The available 2026-27 fall-reservation schedule lists a full deposit refund less $105 through June 15, 2026. It lists a 50% refund less that fee through June 30, then no deposit refund. Those dates have passed. The housing page's 2027-28 prices don't establish Fall 2027 cancellation or guarantee deadlines. Recheck the new schedule before reserving.

Use the confirmed entrance award without assuming later cash

The scholarships overview explicitly labels its admission table 2027-2028. The automatic Admission Scholarship pays $1,000 at 85% to 89.9%, $2,000 at 90% to 94.9%, or $3,000 at 95% to 100%. You must meet the full-time, first-time and status conditions. Direct-entry faculties and Civil Law are included; mature applicants and university transfers aren't eligible for this award.

The French Studies Bursary is different. Its published total is $4,000, paid as $1,000 a year. The standard route needs three courses, or nine units, taught in French each term. French Immersion has a two-course, six-unit route in French or French as a second language. Renewal needs the required enrolment and a 5.50 cumulative grade point average at year-end.

Neither table means every award is automatic. Application-based bursaries and faculty awards use their own rules in Online Scholarships and Bursaries. Our uOttawa financial-aid and entrance-award guide owns those choices. Keep this page's tuition comparison beside the award named in your offer. Check permitted combinations and when the award will reach the account before subtracting it.

French study can reduce international tuition without changing residency

The Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship applies to eligible international-fee students in an approved French program or French Immersion route. The current Winter 2024-or-later schedule gives $12,500 per eligible term in Arts and most Science, Health Sciences and Social Sciences programs. Telfer lists $16,000. Engineering and the named combined Science-Engineering degrees list $18,000. Integrated Food Sciences has an exception.

You must remain full time and normally take at least three French-taught courses, or nine units, each term. Work terms don't receive this scholarship. The current policy allows up to 12 per-term payments with its renewal conditions. This is a scholarship against international tuition. It doesn't change you into an Ontario domestic student or replace the course-language rules with a residency rule.

English-language international entry has its own current awards. For eligible Winter 2026-or-later entrants with at least 80%, the automatic award is $7,500 per term. French Immersion is excluded. The separate $10,000 non-renewable excellence award has 100 places and now requires at least 95%. Meeting the minimum doesn't promise one of those places. Use the fresh eligibility page instead of older 90% summaries.

What remains unconfirmed for Fall 2027

The checked fee sources don't list 2027-28 undergraduate tuition or ancillary rates as of October 16, 2026. The selector offers 2026-27 and 2025-26. We label the current program table 2026-27 and retain that year on every annual calculation. Published 2027-28 residence prices and admission awards stay confirmed, with their own scope.

Fall 2027 and Winter 2028 payment and tuition-refund dates aren't in the checked general calendar. Fall 2027 residence opening, guarantee and deposit-refund deadlines also remain unconfirmed. Recheck these gaps on February 1, 2027 and before accepting an offer, reserving housing or making a non-refundable payment. The university says next-year fees are normally posted in late May; that isn't an exact publication promise.

International fee predictability is also a policy rather than a new price list. For Fall 2022-or-later entrants, the current rule limits future tuition increases to 7% if you stay full time and progress normally. It excludes ancillary and other named fees. We haven't used that ceiling to estimate 2027-28 tuition. Return to the uOttawa university hub for the linked admission and program owners.
