U of T St. George vs UTM vs UTSC

admission, cost and transfer rules

U of T's three campuses are separate applications with their own programs and grade ranges. The 2027-28 bulletin lists Computer Science at low 90s on St. George, high 80s at UTM and low 90s at UTSC. Ontario first-year Arts & Science tuition was $6,220 at all three in 2026-27. Switching campus later needs a new application.

What this means for you

Choose the campus that teaches the degree you want. Then compare what it costs to live there or get there each day. Some programs sit on one campus only. Engineering and Rotman Commerce are St. George programs. Forensic Science is at UTM, and Paramedicine is at UTSC. If your program is on one campus, the choice is made.

More about what this means for you

If your program runs on more than one campus, compare the published range at each. Life Sciences lists mid to high 80s at St. George, low to mid 80s at UTM and mid 70s at UTSC. A lower range doesn't promise an offer. U of T says each range reflects the previous year's admission average.

Don't treat one campus as a side door to another. A move later takes a new Internal Application, and no U of T page we read promises a place. CS on all three campuses and Rotman Commerce don't take transfer applicants at all.

Most of the cost gap comes from housing, not tuition. Ontario students paid the same $6,220 first-year Arts & Science tuition on every campus in 2026-27. Residence prices change by campus and by room, so price the room you'd pick.

Which campus is better? Compare program lists first

U of T doesn't rank its campuses. Its campus page describes what each offers. St. George has 400+ program options and 48,000+ undergraduates in downtown Toronto. UTM and UTSC each have 15,000+ undergraduates. UTM lists 180+ program options and UTSC lists 250+.

More about which campus is better? Compare program lists first

St. George is home to five first-entry faculties: Applied Science & Engineering, Architecture, Arts & Science, Kinesiology & Physical Education, and Music. Rotman Commerce sits inside Arts & Science there. UTM and UTSC are separate U of T divisions, and neither lists an Engineering or Kinesiology category in the bulletin.

UTM names Forensic Science and Communication, Culture, Information & Technology as its unique programs. UTSC runs 50+ co-op programs and a Health Sciences Stream in some science degrees. It also offers Paramedicine and Journalism jointly with Centennial College. See our guides to St. George, Mississauga and Scarborough for campus life.

Published grade ranges, campus by campus

Each campus lists an Approximate Grade Requirement for every admission category. U of T says the range comes from the previous year's admission average. It can change with the number and quality of applicants. Read it as a guide, not a cutoff.

More about published grade ranges, campus by campus

Compare the same field across campuses. CS lists low 90s at St. George and high 80s at UTM. UTSC lists low 90s, or high 90s for co-op. In the social sciences, St. George lists mid to high 80s, UTM mid to high 70s, and UTSC mid 70s.

Business ranges sit closer. Rotman Commerce lists mid to high 80s and UTM Commerce & Management mid 80s. UTSC Management lists mid 80s, or mid to high 80s for co-op. Our UTM Commerce guide and UTSC Management guide cover the required courses.

You may apply to up to three different faculties or campuses in one cycle, with one application per area. U of T reviews each one separately, so you could hold more than one offer. For university-wide numbers, see our U of T acceptance-rate guide.

Supplementary forms, and who may help

Some categories add a form after you apply. On St. George, Arts & Science asks for supplements in CS and Rotman Commerce, both due February 1, 2027. At UTM, the bulletin lists a supplement for CS and for Theatre & Drama, which also needs an audition. Your applicant portal tells you where and when to submit.

More about supplementary forms, and who may help

UTSC uses one Supplementary Application Form, the SAF, for six areas. They are Management, the co-op Management & International Business program, the Double Degree, co-op International Development Studies, Music Industry and Technology, and Paramedicine. If your program needs the SAF and you don't send it, you aren't eligible.

You must complete the SAF on your own. UTSC says unauthorized help is misrepresentation. It names generative AI and having someone else complete the form. So nobody else should shape your answers, including a parent or an adviser. Write about your own experiences in your own words.

Watch the SAF date. U of T's deadlines page lists February 1. UTSC's form page tells you to follow the deadline in your JOIN U of T portal, approximately two to four weeks after you apply. The form opens in late October. Co-op Management & International Business also needs an interview.

Co-op and internships start at different times

Each campus has its own paid-work route. At UTSC, you pick co-op when you apply, and co-op categories can list higher ranges. You usually need a 2.5 GPA to stay in. Your first four-month work term falls in second year, and the total runs 12 to 16 months.

More about co-op and internships start at different times

On St. George, Arts & Science students apply to the Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) in the spring after first year. It's limited enrolment and offers 12 to 20 months of paid work. A degree with ASIP normally takes five years. Engineering students have a separate PEY Co-op.

At UTM, the Co-op Internship Program (UTMCIP) takes applications in the summer after first year. You need 4.0 to 6.0 credits and a program in a participating department. It leads to a 12- or 16-month work term, and the degree normally takes five years. UTM says meeting the minimum doesn't guarantee a place.

Each route charges fees on top of tuition. In 2026-27, ASIP charged Year 2 entrants $520 per development course and $1,050 per work term. UTMCIP charged the same amounts per module and work term. UTSC Arts & Science co-op charged domestic students $625 a term for eight terms.

Tuition: one first-year rate, different extras

U of T's approved 2026-27 tuition schedule lists one Arts & Science fee that covers St. George, UTM and UTSC. Ontario residents paid $6,220 in first year, and other Canadian students paid $7,610. Engineering, offered on St. George only, charged Ontario residents $14,460.

More about tuition: one first-year rate, different extras

Some programs cost more from second year. In 2026-27, continuing Ontario students paid $11,640 for CS and $16,210 for Commerce or Business Administration. Management at UTM was $12,970. In first year, students in those programs paid the general $6,220.

Incidental fees are where the campuses differ. The bulletin lists 2026-27 total fees of $8,292.13 to $9,062.93 for Ontario students in arts, science, commerce and management. It says these extra fees vary by college and campus. U of T will post 2027-28 fees in summer 2027. Our U of T tuition and fees guide breaks them down.

First-year residence on each campus

St. George has many residences, each with its own price. At New College, 2026-27 fall-winter totals with meals ran from $14,965 for an economy double to $20,770 for a single with the Unlimited plan. The bulletin shows St. George prices from $9,000 at Innis College, with no meal plan required, to $39,120 at CampusOne on a 12-month lease. Compare them in our St. George residence guide.

More about first-year residence on each campus

UTM lists 2026-27 first-year rooms from $9,606 to $17,120, without meals. First-year students add the Full plan at $5,100 or the Plus plan at $5,825. That matches the bulletin's UTM range of $14,706 to $22,945. UTM will post 2027-28 fees in February 2027. See our UTM residence guide.

UTSC's 2026-27 first-year totals include a required $6,800 meal plan. They run from $15,167 for a lower-level townhouse double to $24,910 for a Harmony Commons super single. About one third of first-year students live in townhouses, a style found only at UTM and UTSC. See our UTSC residence guide.

U of T has one first-year residence guarantee. Apply on the residence portal by March 31, even before you have an offer. Then receive and accept an offer of admission by June 2, says U of T Student Life. The printed 2027-28 bulletin says June 1, so accepting by June 1 meets both.

Getting to campus: distance and transit

St. George is in the middle of downtown Toronto. UTM is about 27 km west of downtown, and UTSC is about 22 km east, by U of T's own figures. If you'll live at home, time the trip from your door to each campus at class hours before you decide.

More about getting to campus: distance and transit

UTM runs a shuttle bus to St. George. UTM students ride at no extra charge with a valid TCard, since they pay through a student fee. St. George and UTSC students need a $7.00 ticket or a term pass. The bus leaves from the Instructional Centre layby at UTM and from 21 Classic Avenue, at Wetmore Hall, on St. George.

We found no inter-campus shuttle at UTSC. Its commuting page lists eight bus routes that stop on campus and connect with the TTC subway and GO lines. One is the 905 Eglinton East Express, a 30-minute bus from Kennedy Station on weekdays.

Switching campuses after first year

U of T treats a campus change as a new application. Current students moving to another faculty or campus use the Internal Application. U of T's applications page lists a $98 fee, while the UTM and UTSC pages say $96. For 2027 admissions, internal applications to all three campuses were due January 15. The deadlines page we read covers 2027 admissions only.

More about switching campuses after first year

No page we read promises a move. U of T says it weighs your overall academic record, and limited programs expect the right first-year courses. UTM says competitive internal applicants usually have a CGPA of at least 2.0. UTSC prints no CGPA guide for internal applicants. The Arts & Science transfer page showed a human-verification screen when we checked, so we couldn't confirm its guidance for St. George.

Some programs are closed to transfers. U of T lists CS on all three campuses and Rotman Commerce as unavailable to transfer applicants. At UTSC, so are the Double Degree, Mathematics, Statistics, Paramedicine and the Health Sciences Stream. Engineering may have little room and reviews transfers in June.

Your courses come with you. UTM and UTSC both keep courses and grades from another U of T campus, with no transfer credit assessment. At UTSC, that applies when there's no gap in your studies. The 2026-27 Arts & Science Calendar also keeps UTM and UTSC courses on your record. Still, an Arts & Science HBA or HBSc needs at least 10.0 credits from its own courses. Changing programs within your campus needs no internal transfer.
