BA or BSc: pick first

Concordia offers psychology as a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science. The core is the same. Every student takes statistics, research methods, behavioural neurobiology and the history of psychology.

The difference is the electives. BSc students take more science courses such as Biology, Chemistry and Physics. BA students take more arts and humanities courses. If you might want neuroscience, medicine or lab research later, the BSc keeps more doors open. If you lean toward counselling, social work or business, the BA works well.

Concordia also runs a separate BSc in Neuroscience in the same department. It is a different program with its own hands-on labs.

Ontario course requirements

Ontario students need an Ontario diploma with at least six Grade 12 U or M courses, including English (ENG4U). Students at French schools can use Français 4U.

For the BA, Concordia says most BA programs have no other set courses. For the BSc you need Advanced Functions (MHF4U) or Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), plus two of Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) and Physics (SPH4U).

One thing to check. The psychology program page lists Calculus, Biology, Chemistry and Physics for the BSc. The general Canadian page asks for math plus two of the three sciences. Those two pages do not match. Ask Concordia which rule applies before you drop a science. Plan your courses with our course planner.

The average you need

Concordia asks Canadian high school students for a B overall. On Concordia's Ontario scale a B is 73% to 76%, a B plus is 77% to 79% and an A minus is 80% to 84%. BSc applicants also need a B in their math and science courses.

These are minimums, not promises. Concordia does not publish a psychology admission average or an acceptance rate. Aim above the minimum to be safe. Work out your number with our Top 6 average calculator.

Other school systems

Quebec CEGEP students need a CRC of 27.5 for both degrees. The BSc also needs Calculus 1 and 2, Physics, General Chemistry and General Biology, or Cellular Biology with Ecology and Evolution.

IB students need 29 points. BSc IB students also need 4 in HL math or 5 in SL math, and 5 in an HL science. British system students need two A levels at C, with a C in math and science for the BSc. French Baccalaureate students need 13 out of 20. Concordia does not ask for the SAT or ACT.

Alberta BSc students need Math 30-1 or Math 31 and two of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 and Physics 30. In BC you need a Grade 12 math and two of Anatomy and Physiology 12, Chemistry 12 and Physics 12.

Essays, interviews and tests

Concordia's psychology program page lists no essay, interview, portfolio or Casper test. Your grades and courses decide your file.

That makes your Grade 11 and Grade 12 marks very important. Send the marks Concordia asks for on time so the file can be reviewed early.

Dates for Fall 2027

The fall deadline is March 1. The winter deadline is November 1. International and American applicants are asked to apply by February 1 for fall and August 1 for winter, and earlier if they can.

Concordia uses its own online application, not OUAC. So an Ontario student applies on Concordia's site as well as on OUAC for Ontario schools. Compare dates on our Canadian deadlines page.

Honours, specialization and major

Each degree comes in three levels: Honours, Specialization and Major. There is also a Minor in Psychology. The undergraduate calendar lists each one for the BA and the BSc.

You do not apply to Honours from high school. Concordia says students who want Honours should speak with their program adviser in first year. Students usually apply after 30 credits. Honours is the usual route if you want graduate school in clinical or research psychology.

The degree takes three to four years, 90 to 120 credits, depending on your background. Quebec CEGEP graduates often finish in 90 credits. Most students from outside Quebec need 120 credits, which is four years.

What you study and research

Concordia covers five main areas: social, developmental, clinical, neuroscience and cognition. You study how the brain and behaviour work in people and animals, including learning, memory and stress.

The program is based at the Loyola campus. Concordia points to chances to join active research labs. Ask professors early about volunteer or paid lab roles. Lab hours help a great deal with Honours and graduate school.

No co-op stream

The psychology program page does not list a co-op option. It also notes that a version of the program for American federal student aid has no co-op education or online courses. So plan for research labs, volunteering and summer jobs instead of paid work terms.

Concordia lists careers such as youth counselling and roles in teaching, business and community work. It also lists graduate study in counselling psychology, social work and the MBA. Many psychology careers need a graduate degree.

The $4,000 excellence award

Concordia guarantees $4,000 to Canadian citizens and permanent residents admitted to a bachelor's program for Fall 2027 who have an A or A plus high school average. On Concordia's Ontario scale an A starts at 85%.

You must be finishing Grade 12, CEGEP, the IB or the French Baccalaureate in Canada, with no earlier university study. CEGEP students need a CRC of 33 and IB students need 35. There is no separate form. Concordia applies it automatically.

For parents

The B minimum is easy to meet but it is a floor. Help your child pick BA or BSc before Grade 12 courses are locked in, because the BSc needs math and science.
